House of Health Collective (HOH) and the Minister for Environment and Water, David Speirs announced South Australia’s ban on single-use plastics from March 1, 2021 at the media launch of HOH’s newest sustainable and eco-friendly store, Sustainable Co Eco Store in the Adelaide Central Markets today.
Addressing the media with House of Health Collective co-owner Chester Frank, Mr Speirs discussed the legislation and launched the Replace the Waste campaign to help businesses and the public learn more about the historic legislation.
“Single-use plastic products are designed to be used a limited number of times, often away from home, and thrown away, usually resulting in litter, waste and harm to wildlife, including marine life.
“I congratulate businesses such as House of Health Collective who are already voluntarily making changes ahead of 1 March 2021”, he said. Co-owner Chester Frank was in full support of the historic announcement believing the state was making necessary changes and a natural progression to protect our planet and future based around the idea of building a life based on a focus on sustainability, zero-waste, environmentally friendly
and personal products with the mind-set of consuming less.
In support of the Minister’s strategy around education in the lead up to the deadline of 1 March and with House of Health Collective’s support, Sustainable Eco Store is pleased to announce the launch of a “Zero Waste & Sustainable Swap Challenge” during the month of January to educate the public about how small acts, when multiplied by millions, have the opportunity to change the world.
The team at House of Health Collective and Sustainable Co Eco Store’s first challenge was accepted by Mr Speirs who will be taking the challenge to share their experiences and findings as they try and reduce their waste over five days to fit in a 500 ml jar to show the small manageable changes individuals can make and the environmental impact and benefit. Not limited to just individuals, the guys are hoping to work with local businesses in showcasing their sustainability practices and provide guidance on how to reduce their carbon footprint.
“With Australian’s waste increasing by over 30% during the Christmas period perhaps due to a culture that seems to drive excess around this time of year and the 1 March deadline looming, we couldn’t think of a better time to announce this campaign in support of David’s initiative.”
The challenge is open to the public and are encouraged to join and be part of the challenge simply fill in your details by clicking here.
