Evie Interrupted

Ben said he loved me, lusted after me, and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. From the very beginning I was honest with him about my complicated life. He promised me the only thing that mattered was our love. I thought the future was set, until...

"Evie, I can't do us anymore."

The day Ben walked away was the day my love life went on permanent hiatus. Men were a distraction that I didn't want or need, until...

Tall, dark, and handsome ex-pro-football-player, Butler Thompson entered the picture, and interrupted my heart.

Y'all I can't believe I finally finished this book. LOL! This year has been challenging for all of us, so writing, The End, on Evie is such a satisfying feeling. I can't wait for y'all to read about Evie's life. Like with my other books, you'll get all the feels because life is made up of ugly cries, laughter, swoonworthy moments, etc.

Thank you for your love, support, and patience.

WRITING UPDATE

It's been awhile since I've written an update. The reason for my lack of communication? LIFE! Honestly, I had every intention of releasing Evie Interrupted in Oct. My editor, formatter, and publicist were all set. Even the cover reveal packets had gone out to bloggers. As time ticked away something didn't feel right.

This book is one of the most important books I've written. The subject matter is extremely close to my heart and I wanted to do it justice. I want Evie Interrupted to be as perfect as possible. I want it to be a book worth your time. So, I made the difficult decision to pull back and cancel the Oct 2020 release. I won't announce the new release date until the book is done and in the hands of my awesome editor.

I promise to do a better job with communicating with y'all. Thank you for all the love and support you've given me. I don't take any of it for granted and appreciate each and everyone of you. <3

ARC generously provided in exchange for an honest review -

This is my first book by this author and I'm surprised about that. It's not the trope I usually read, but wow... I was captivated.

I adored Evie. She was a strong and selfless woman. Her life was interrupted by a medical diagnosis. Her mother, her hero, her everything - needed her so she put her life on hold, every aspect to be there for her. Years later and she is just treading water. Life had become so overwhelming. She has lost herself in being the only caregiver to her mom. Her own identity was fading.

A chance meeting brought someone much needed into her life.
Her world became brighter once again and she felt alive. That's what Butler Thompson did. Their chemistry was on point. Loved her little comebacks and their light banter.

But can she juggle it all? Be what her mom needs and still get what she wants...
It's about time her life had a bit of manly interruption.
This was a sweet read. We all need a Butler in our lives!! Sigh... I wish we would have had his POV.

Evie Chapman is living a life interrupted. Her plans all disintegrated when her family received devastating news and she has been living with the repercussions for the past six years. When she should have been enjoying her young independent life, she was pulled back home due to the needs of the person she loves and admires the most.

Men have failed her and it seems she is destined to live her solitary, lonely existence until an unexpected meeting with a charming, earnest guy completely interrupts her rigid routine.

Butler Thompson is an ex-football player and new high school coach in town. He is handsome, built, genuine, a bit awkward, and determined to spend time with Evie. He charms his way into her thoughts, fights her resistance, breaks down her walls, and pushes his way into her heart. But she has learned to be guarded and is afraid to share her actual life and all it entails. So my heart hurt for Butler just wanting to be more a part of her life.

My heart also broke for Evie and her struggles. The story is told in both flashbacks throughout her life and present. We see how she came to be the Evie of the present. Her life is truly not her own and even to take small periods of time for herself (or with Butler) is a challenge. She is fearful to hope and trust in a man and be left again. She has lost herself, but with Butler, she is seeing glimpses of her old spark and humor.

I will admit that I did not like all of Evie's decisions and behavior. I could understand it and her need to try to hold onto a little bit of something just for herself, but I was not always happy about it. He was just so amazing that he had me swooning. I was glad that even though he was wonderful and caring that he also had a backbone too. They had great chemistry and a natural rapport with each other, but Butler was really always on the sidelines and he did not even realize how much. I did admire Evie's dedication. strength, independence, and heart. She sacrificed everything to give back to the one who needed her and had so many unresolved feelings about the situation. Her best friend, Maine was the perfect friend and foil. I totally wanted to hang out at her cafe and drink coffee and eat amazing donuts.

I felt this author touched on so many emotions that people in these types of situations face on a daily basis...loneliness, anger, resentment, hopelessness, fear, fatigue, burnout, and a sense of loss. She handled it all in a very honest and real way.

This is a heartfelt, inspiring, emotional, sweet, and sexy story about finding a connection and love in the midst of personal turmoil. It has enough humor, passion, and tender moments to balance out some of the tension, angst, and harder ones. It illustrates the importance of trust, sharing, and honesty to make a relationship real. It shows that life is not always easy and sometimes it might seem isolated or impossible, but if you have a little faith, trust, and courage that there still might be possibilities and brighter days ahead.

Evie had a wonderful childhood, raised by both of her parents where she had their undivided attention as an only child. Her mother was a dedicated professional in her career but always made time for fun and laughter in their day. Evie always felt loved and cared for. She did well in school and graduated University with honours, However, one phone call changed the course of her life and all of her future plans have now been interrupted.

After receiving a life changing health diagnosis, all Evie knows is that her mother needs her. She puts everything aside to be there, just like her mother has been there for her up until now. When everyone else in their lives slowly drifts away from them she knows that this will be a long and slow journey alone.

She does have one amazing bestie called Maine and once she has a schedule sorted for her mum, she looks forward to the few moments she can get in a bit of ‘me’ time. This is usually done at the coffee shop that Maine works at, which means enjoying a quiet coffee and napping on the sofa. This is where she meets Butler one day, rather she is startled awake by him looking for his keys in the sofa she is currently passed out on.

Talk about mortifying, she has drool on her face, cushion imprints on her cheek, birds nest hair and baggy clothes. Butler is an absolute vision, ridiculously gorgeous and super polite. And a bit flirtatious too. It’s been a couple of years since Evie dated anyone so she is trying to figure out if he really is flirting with her or just pities her lying there looking like a sloth.

Butler is completely taken with Evie, from the first moment they meet. He finds her quite adorable. Each time he crosses paths with her is another opportunity to get to know her and convince her to date him. Evie however is struggling with Butler’s interest. She begins to concoct a few white lies to avoid sharing too much about her situation at home. She has learnt that most people can’t handle all that comes with being in her life so she would rather see how things go before letting him too far in.

‘There was something special about Butler. He was one of those people you immediately felt a connection with, but didn’t know why.’

The problem is that, before they know it they are falling in love and Evie is digging herself deeper into a hole she can’t see a way out of. She already carries enough guilt around with her and this is now adding to that load weighing her down. Butler finds it all too confusing, one minute she wants to be with him and the next she is ghosting him. Lies have a way of catching up with you and more often that not the outcome ends in heartbreak.

‘Evie, look at me.’ His smooth warm voice drifted into my ears. I hesitated. I didn’t want to look at him. This was too much. He was too much. Not only could I not have him, I didn’t deserve him.’

Can Evie find the courage to be open and honest with Butler, trusting him with her heart and her secrets?

I loved Butler, what a sweet guy. Evie’s struggles with taking care of her mum at times were very confronting and awfully sad. This is a reality though for a lot of people who care for their ill family members so it was really interesting to read about. Alison Bailey has delivered an emotionally charged story of love, loyalty and sacrifice.

Multi-layered with all the varieties of love -- a parent's love for their child, a child's love for parents, the love we share with our friends, and not any less the love we have for our pets. And the one that takes our breath away, makes our hearts race with giddiness and love for that special someone who'll change your life forever and make it a happily-ever-after.

Oh yes! There will be tears, but there will be laughter and joy as well. There are plenty of life messages to behold. This book was not easy to read at times -- but it also is one that confronts all of life's issues -- the joys and blessings as well as the hurts and losses. And still leaves you smiling ear-to-ear with a touching and loving Epilogue.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have you ever wanted to reach into a book, find the author in it, and hug said author? Have you ever been so emotionally drawn to the pain evoked from the author’s story? Evie Interrupted by Alison G. Bailey is that such a book for me. After several months of reading stories that interested me, but didn’t invest me emotionally, Bailey’s Evie Interrupted is a provocative rendering of love. If you’re looking for a traditional romance in her book, you will find it, but it isn’t the most important love on the page. Instead, Bailey’s book is a love story between a mother and a daughter. It’s about hero-making and the pain of living in that hero-worship when the hero (or heroine) seems no longer worthy of it. It’s about the switching of roles between a child and a parent in the face of a devastating illness. And it’s about living the same life over and over again, becoming static, and feeling like you have to live in that space when you just want to fly.

After the first couple of chapters of Bailey’s book, I didn’t know if I would survive it. You should know that I did, and it stretched me as a person. Using the past and present to tell her story, Alison G. Bailey captured a piece of my heart with Evie Interrupted, and I don’t want it back. I also really want to meet her someday and give her the biggest hug when it’s allowed because this book requires it.

I was drawn to Evie Interrupted by its cover and its blurb. But I fell in love with it through its ability to show the pain of life. There is indeed a beautiful traditional romance in this book, complete with a hero who is everything you love in heroes: handsome, $exy, compassionate, and wholly in love with the heroine. There is also a heroine (well, actually, two) who falls deeply in love with the hero almost at first sight. But she is much more complicated, and you will struggle to love her at times. Yet, it’s her love for the other heroine in this book that will captivate you, that will make your heart bleed, and that will steal a piece of your soul. Come to this book, girded with a box of tissues, but know that you will leave Alison G. Bailey’s Evie Interrupted changed in all the best of ways.

For the first time in ages I find myself unsure how to approach this review because I don't want to give any of the storyline away. This is a story that it is best to go in blind and live Evie's story slowly page by page.

I am unsure if Alison relied on research or if she has lived this reality but I do know she did the subject and the characters justice. Every word felt real to me, I won't say that I experienced every thing Evie did but a big portion of the story could have been taken from my memories. This is raw and deep love it is responsibility and selflessness it made my heart equal parts happy and sad. There is one word that comes to mind for Butler and that is perfection I was screaming at Evie to hold onto him and never let go.

Alison has crafted a story of a mother and daughters love. I adored the little life lessons she got without her even realising. I loved how the shy and awkward Butler turned out to be just who Evie needed in her life. I won't lie some parts had me feeling like a weight was balanced on my chest but every tear I shed was worth it. This is an incredibly poignant beautifully written book. Bravo Alison.

This book was straight up beautiful. This is my second book by Alison G. Bailey but as with The Dance this was an amazing story that simply grabs you from start to finish. This is so much more than a romance, this is a love story about a daughter's love for her mother and the sacrifices we make for those we love. The writing is plain beautiful. This is one story everyone should read. Simply loved it!

This story touched my heart! I really connected with the heroine and felt all of her emotions. I admired her strength and devotion. My mother took care of my grandmother who suffered from dementia until her dying day. The scarifies she made regarding her own lifestyle along with the emotional toll it took on her, was sometimes unbearable. I felt that the author expressed the roller coaster of emotions my mother felt perfectly.

I loved this hero. I envisioned the high school coach from that cute little show Sweet Magnolias on Netflix, so hubba hubba! He was everything Evie needed in her life. Every girls needs a Butler!

This was an emotional read for me. I loved how the author writes the story in memories to present. It really established how close Evie and her Mom were and set the tone for their beautiful relationship. It made the heartache Evie felt that much more tangible.

Thank goodness for amazing best friends. I adored Maine. Everyone needs that friend in their life who is completely honest with you and isn’t afraid to give you some tough love when you need. She was quite the fire cracker!

If you’re looking for a sweet romance that makes you feel, this is the story for you. I highly recommend!

Evie, Interrupted was an emotionally charged love story. Not only the love of a man and a woman, but also the love of a daughter and her mother. Evie has always loved and looked up to her mother. The story goes back and forth from the past to present. We get to see how Evie was brought up and who her mother was to her. Then we see how their relationship is now. Evie’s Mother was diagnosed with dementia at a pretty early age. Evie selflessly halts her life and takes on the role of her mothers only caregiver. My heart broke for all that Evie went through. I may have shed a few tears in different situations. I sometimes saw myself as the daughter and sometimes saw myself as the mother. Both were a hard pill to swallow. Butler comes in to Evie’s life unexpectedly, but at a time when she really needed it. He was a really great guy with good intentions. I loved thle way he and Evie were together. They were funny and often sweet. This story was really beautiful and I’m so happy I read it.

I had the honor of reading an arc of Evie Interrupted before it goes live and if I could, I wish I could hug Alison Gaskin Bailey for writing this book. Evie Interrupted is an honest and heartfelt story about a daughter’s love and unending commitment to her mom who develops FTD, the most common form of dementia. There is nothing common about this disease and it’s not only life-changing for the person diagnosed, but the caregiver as well. Life just stops for Evie, and many things in her life are put on hold to care for her mother who has been her hero her entire life. Evie is doing her best trying to keep head above water most of the time and is missing the carefree life of a 20 something year old woman but she doesn’t complain because it’s the love she has for her mom that keeps her going. As the main caregiver, there is little time for Evie, but one day as if he was plucked out of the sky, she meets Butler Thompson, dreamy in every category who checks off all her boxes. She believes he’s out of reach because past relationships have shown Evie that she can’t have what most young women her age have and still be there for her mom 24/7, but the best friend is on it and she pushes Evie to take a chance. Over time and the more they get to know one another, Butler breathes life into Evie giving her back missing pieces of her life. They are so good together and you experience all the happy feels when it comes to a new and developing relationship.

Hands down, this is a well-written and pull at your heartstrings book. If you’ve ever been in this role caring for a loved one, Evie Interrupted is relatable. As a daughter who has experienced a parent with Alzheimer’s, this book brought many feelings to the surface for me, and when I say EI is a book you can relate to, I heard myself saying, oh my goodness, I went through that with my mom. Reading it in print in the voice of Alison’s fun banter, I laughed too because she made me feel so many emotions helping me remember my mom and the times we shared.

Thank you my friend for gifting me your story. It was wonderful and I hope it helps others as it inspired me.

WOW! I love books that hover in your mind after reading! This is THAT book! It is an emotional journey. But sooo good!

Evie is in the prime of her life. But she’s spending it in a stagnate hell. Evie is doing the right thing, the only thing she can do and that’s take care of her mother who is suffering from Dementia. Unable to watch the sad demise of her mother, family and friends disappear leaving Evie to deal with the fall out alone. And the cost is high. For six years her life has been put on hold. Her days a filled with care giver routines. She slowly starts to lose every bit of herself, her identity, and any chance at happiness.

She had a relationship once, but he wasn’t willing to hold second place in her thoughts, who would? She accepts that this is her life now. Until she runs in to Butler. A gorgeous ex- football player who isn’t like anyone she’s ever met. The sparks are hot, the banter hilarious.

Evie’s been through this before. Her father left; Ben left. She can’t get involved in a relationship; it hurts too much. But Butler keeps pushing. Will Evie relent? Will she begin to feel resentment towards her mother or family for putting her in this position? Will Butler accept her life and her responsibilities?

“Once I stepped inside, I went back to the life I didn’t choose. A life that stole from me, drained me, and kept me from a relationship I desperately wanted.”

This is a very emotionally tugging story. My heart hurt for Evie. I appreciated the witty banter that balanced the heaviness of the story line. Butler was a perfect character for her. He forced her to begin to live her life again. I enjoyed the memory flashbacks where we were able to enjoy and appreciate the relationship Evie had with her mother and to learn who her mother was before Dementia overtook her.

This is a new to me author, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be adding Ms. Bailey to my follow list!

I read an ARC of this book. My fair and honest review is voluntary.

My first Alison G. Bailey book in years and she made me cry big, happy tears! I went into this book blind and it certainly held my heart and soul hostage as Evie Chapman tries to find a balance at 27 that she lost 6 years prior. The woman is as selfless as they come, caring for her dear mother, who has been felled by dementia. Holy cow, the lengths Evie goes to, to make sure her Mom is well-cared for and kept safe and clean is truly awe-inspiring. And when a certain sexy new high school coach comes barreling into her regimented life, not only do her worries multiply but she beautifully experiences true love for the first time even when she knows it clearly can't last.

This is not your typical love story. In fact, it is two love stories in one, with Evie clearly devoted and full of praise and adoration for Dr. Evelyne Chapman, her beloved mother. A woman she looks up to despite her losing her way and forgetting everything and everyone around her. Evie knows this woman is the true love of her life, as she states more than once. The way she balances her tight schedule, never truly finding time for herself. I was exhausted for her throughout.

When Butler enters the picture, something comes back to life in Evie and I fell as hard for him as she did. To say he is all kinds of perfect is an understatement. We don't a chance to really know him, just what Evie finds out through a month of dating. Sure he's the new football coach but we weren't privy to any real pillow talk so I'll just continue to think he is beyond everything a woman could ever want. And that seems to work just fine for our feisty heroine.

The underlying harshness that is dementia is definitely at the forefront of this book and Bailey gives us all a stark look at what life is like when caring for someone who loses a bit of herself day by day. Thankfully, there is the absolute amazing best friend in Maine who provides a bit of respite when times get tough. And they do, more often than not.

I had no idea I would cry as much as I did especially towards the end of this book. With glimpses into Evie's past with her mom as chapters titled, "Memories", it was bittersweet getting to see how close they were when all was right with the world. Now knowing how that Evie was losing her grasp at that happiness way too quickly.

It was a true pleasure getting to read Alison Bailey's words once more and I have a deep appreciation for her getting Evie's story out there since there is a personal side for her in all of this as well. I do hope Maine gets her story told next since she is one of the best women to support a great friend I've ever read about and she deserves finding her forever happy, too.

Poignant and beautiful, you will need a big old pile of tissues on hand. But honestly, it was worth every tear shed.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Oh wow. How do I review this in a way that gives justice to how beautiful this book is? You need to know that this book is 5 stars and way way beyond.

Evie and Butler. Butler and Evie. Sigh. I didn’t want any conflict to come between this beautiful couple but alas I knew it had to because it always does in books as in life I guess. This book was raw and honest and so very real.

I haven’t read all of Alison’s books yet but I’ve loved all the ones I have read. The Dance is one of my favourite books ever and this is up there with it.

Alison has clearly written this book from her heart and it has found its way straight into mine.

Evie Interrupted is a romance novel but honestly I feel like the romance is second to the heart, soul and life that this book radiates. Evie is an amazing woman who has women in her life.

This is an incredibly special book, full of wonderful people and I feel very privileged to have spent even a small amount of time with them. I will think of them often. I cried so much reading this book, so much that I honestly thought I was never going to stop. I might have cried but I also smiled and took stock of my own life. I am grateful for every single emotion and reaction I had to this book.

Thank you Alison for sharing such a wonderful story with the world it couldn’t have been easy.

Years and year ago I discovered one of my most favorite reads by Alison G. Bailey. Present Perfect was a book that spoke to my soul. I knew I would follow this author anywhere. Seriously if you haven’t read it, add to your #tbr

Evie Interrupted is a book that definitely will tug on your heart strings. It’s so much more than finding love, it’s about the love you share with the person who raised you.

“There’s not enough time,” she said. “Enough time for what?”
“To show you how much I love you.”

This book is written like the title... Evie is taking care of her mother and she meets someone. But she feels like her life doesn’t have room for Butler. Her life is dedicated to her mom and her life stopped when her mom needed her most.

“Evie, I know it’s frustrating, but you can’t lose yourself.”
“I think I already have.”

If you are looking for an emotional story, make sure to pick this one up.

Alison’s books always touch me and Evie, Interrupted did not disappoint. It’s touching and emotional. It’s heartfelt and sweet.

I really felt for Evie. Having to take care of her mother wasn’t easy for her. Her life was not her own. But she puts her mother first and does what she needs to do to take care of her. Then she meets Butler and things begin to change. I was glad she took a chance on him. They made me laugh with their banter and swoon and he was so great for her.

Alison takes you on an emotional ride. This one will pull at your heartstrings. But it’s worth the ride. It’s well written with well developed characters. Go one click!

While I loved this story, the heroine drove me absolutely crazy. Her reasoning for the lies she tells don't make any sense to me and that almost ruined the story.

I haven't read many stories that speak about this subject and as someone who has gone through being a caregiver, it was spot on. Missing conversations, the anger, poop everywhere, missing the heart and soul of your loved one, up all hours of the night, having to lock every door/window/cabinet, trying not to argue, cleaning, so much cleaning...but mostly feeling completely alone in all that.

I do have a couple of questions. Why does Butler smell like licorice, and is it black or red licorice?

I loved this beautiful story. It's so real and so raw. It's not just about the romance and love story between Evie and Butler. But it's the unbreakable bond Evie has with her mother. I felt for her. And I loved reading that part of the story so much.

But her story with Butler is also as amazing. Their banter and swoon were so enjoyable. He treated her right and was so great for her. They made me laugh a lot. Loved this one. Highly recommended!

I can’t even describe how much I loved this story! I can relate so much to Evie cause I know how hard it can be to care for a parent with dementia so this story really hit home. She is incredible and has given up everything, even her hope, to care for her mom but Butler shows up he shows her what a real man is. I am forever in love with this book!!

Evie’s story definitely hit close to home so it was an emotional rollercoaster for me personally to read. I shed more than one tear while reading.

Evie is going through a lot taking care of her mother. Her life is not easy and not fully her own anymore. Evie is strong and fierce. Butler is beyond swoon worthy! I adored him. Evie & Butler had amazing chemistry and terrific banter.

Alison G. Bailey wrote a story that gave me all the feels. I can’t wait to see what adventure she will take us on next!

Evie’s life is on hold while she deals with events outside of her control that those who should have helped her carry walked away from. She’s the only one left, so can’t walk away. Her dreams, her plans, her future, everything is paused.

When Butler, the new high school football coach, shows an interest in Evie, she isn’t sure how to react. He is sweet, considerate, and patient with her as her very rigid schedule leaves little time for dating. He is also determined and very into her so is willing to bend with what she needs.

Her character has a strength that defies the limits she has set. Her dedication is commendable, even as the lengths she went to to put herself last was a little frustrating at times.

I loved both characters, but the secrets Evie is keeping hurt both herself and Butler, and for that I spent a good deal of time wishing she would open up more. I understood her reticence to let him in - she had been let down by too many men she relied on and trusted - but I also could see the writing on the wall as she continued to hold to herself.

This story touched on huge emotions and situations I was not expecting. It hit on all the raw emotion that really happens in these situations, and faced all aspects of life. This was a beautiful journey for Evie, as she challenged her own notions of what she could take on, how to trust, and how to let someone in.

4.5 Stars for Evie Interrupted
This is a beautifully written mother/ daughter story and it touched my heart. Like all mothers she is her daughters hero and this story takes us on a journey before and after frontotemporal dementia.
We live through Evie, her everyday trails and tribulations when you are the primary caregiver for the woman you have always looked up to.
This author showed us how talented and diverse she really is with this emotional read that at time’s will break your heart as you watch the decline in Evie’s mother health and see Evie struggling with everyday decisions regarding her own life when she meets Butler. No one should ever have to choose between their lover and their mother but when you are a caregiver these choices have to be made.
Evie Interrupted touched me on so many levels, my heart broke for Evie when she found herself doubting the time needed for her new love, I cried, I smiled and I highly recommend this heartfelt read. Great job Ms Bailey
