Katrina Fanning Shield 2021 Round Six Wrap

The Yass Magpies remain undefeated while the UC Stars and Tuggeranong Bushrangers also recorded wins in round six of the Specsavers Katrina Fanning Shield.

Yass Magpies 22 d Goulburn City Bulldogs 4

The Yass Magpies have kept their unbeaten winning streak alive with a dominant win over the Goulburn City Bulldogs at Walker Park.

In what was a battle of the top two sides, the Magpies showed their class with a great defensive performance.

Having had no points scored against them in the opening five rounds, Yass let in just one Bulldogs try throughout the game.

Their attack was also impressive, with Yass taking their opportunities when down at Goulburn's end.

Goulburn had most of the possession in the opening period of the first half, with some great field position. But the Magpies defence managed to hold out the Bulldogs.

It was the home side that opened the scoring, with centre Kirsty Hansen crossing in the corner for a try and five-eighth Shannon Wright successfully converting.

The Magpies extended their lead to 10-0 in the next set, with fullback Lucy Prosser scoring her first try of the day.

Yass went into half-time with a 16-0 lead, with lock Samara Afele scoring a great try and Wright converting.

The momentum shifted back to Goulburn early in the second half, and it was the visitors who scored first after the break through prop Olivia Howe.

Goulburn threw everything they had at Yass, desperate to score another try and get back into the game. But it was the Magpies who had the last say with Prosser scoring her eighth try of the season.

The Magpies are now outright first on the ladder, two points ahead of the Goulburn City Bulldogs in second place.

UC Stars 14 d Boomanulla Raiders 4

The UC Stars bounced back from last week's loss with a ten point victory over the Boomanulla Raiders at Raiders Belconnen.

The Stars proved too strong for the Raiders, running in three tries to one.

Hooker Annabelle Tetley was amongst her team's best, scoring a try and leading the team around the park well.

Amanda Kyburz scored a double, with Sharna Mitchell converting one goal.

Boomanulla scored one try throughout the match.

The UC Stars finished round six in fifth place, two points behind the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and Queanbeyan Blues. The Boomanulla Raiders are in seventh place, yet to win a game.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 46 d Harden Worhawks 0

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers backed up their performance in round five with a commanding win over the Harden Worhawks at Raiders Belconnen on Sunday.

After a 50-0 win over the UC Stars last weekend, the Bushrangers attack was again on song. Tuggeranong scored nine tries, while holding Harden to zero.

Fullback Elissa Blowes, centre Grace Faapoi and hooker Zoe Podmore all scored two tries each, with Felicity Bell, Kathryn Niki and Caitlin Fazey-Robinson the other try-scorers.

The win sees the Bushrangers finish the round in fourth place, just behind the Queanbeyan Blues in for-and-against. The Worhawks are sitting in sixth place, two points behind the UC Stars.
