Coltharp and Van Hee Named NCAA Woman of the Year Nominees

CHATTANOOGA – Chattanooga softball's Emily Coltharp and women tennis' Emma Van Hee were selected as Chattanooga's nominees for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The award, which was established in 1991, honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

"We are extremely proud of Emily and Emma for the successes they had academically and athletically this year," said Laura Herron, Executive Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration and Senior Woman Administrator. "Both of them have built a strong resume this season and in their careers at Chattanooga." 

Coltharp won the Southern Conference batting title for the second time in her four-year career and the first after a full season. The McDonough, Ga. native is the first Moc to win the batting title in a complete season since 2012. She hit .381 as the primarily leadoff hitter for the squad, registering a league-high 72 hits in 189 at bats. Coltharp's 72 hits were 30th in all of Division I and she posted a team-best 25 multi-hit games.

She stole 24 bases last season, which is tied for the 5th most in a single season and the most since 2011. Coltharp's 72 hits are tied for the 7th most in program history and the most since 2008. She concluded the season with a .362 career batting average, the 7th-best in program history. She earned All-SoCon First Team accolades for the second time in her career and was also tabbed to the All-SoCon Tournament team after the team won its 15th tournament title.  

Coltharp graduated in May with a 3.60 GPA in Human Resource Management. She will return to campus in August to pursue a master's degree in Business Administration.

Van Hee finished the season 16-7 overall in singles and held a combined 22-6 record in doubles action. She went a perfect 12-0 overall and 7-0 in doubles with Nicole Abel. The duo was the first to go undefeated in league action since 2013 and they finished the season ranked No. 7 in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Rankings.

The Tournai, Belgium native was tabbed First Team All-SoCon Doubles, an ITA Scholar Athlete and Academic All-SoCon. Van Hee concluded the season 12-5 between the No. 2 and 3 singles slots. In her career, she is third in singles wins at UTC with an 80-48 record. She is 80-54 in doubles, sitting fourth all-time in doubles victories.

Van Hee earned the Dayle May Award which is an annual UTC award given to the top GPA among each male and female student-athletes. She graduated in the Spring of 2021 with a 4.0 GPA in Economics and has maintained her 4.0 GPA as a graduate student, pursuing a master's degree in Data Analysis.
