Carolina Comets #7

Neutral Zone

Rate this book
To my fans, I’m known as Ivan Fitzgerald.
To my teammates, I’m just Fitz.
And to the girl I’ve been talking to online, I’m ShootsAndScores.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the woman on the other side of the screen is completely out of my league. Why wouldn’t she be? Sure, I’m a professional hockey player, but that doesn’t mean anything when I’m shy and awkward in the most basic social situations and she’s a fiery vixen who oozes sex appeal.

No matter how badly I want her, I can’t have her. Because the woman I love watching so much? The one I might be slowly falling for?

She’s not just some stranger on the internet. It’s Rosie, the woman who serves me coffee and donuts every morning.

And she has no clue it’s me.

NEUTRAL ZONE is a standalone sports romance novel. It features a hot, toothless hockey player, a curvy woman who is confident in her body, lots of fun banter, and STEAM!

A nice guy with a kink!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎💜❤️💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰😘

The heroine: Rosie - Rosie works for Scout from Scoring Chance at the donut truck. She used to be a timid little mouse who was scared to put herself out there. But now she has the baking job she wanted, she is going to business school so she can one day open her own bakery and she is paying for it by being a cam girl online. She streams herself in lingerie doing normal everyday things like painting her nails while men pay to watch her online.

The Hero: Ivan “Fitz” Fitzgerald - He is a NHL player on the Carolina Comets team. He isn’t in to going out with the guys after games, but he isn’t ready to settle down either. He just wants to focus on Hockey for the time being. Though he does have an odd bedroom kink that he likes which makes him a bit afraid to open up to women.

The Story: Rosie has worked hard on improving herself and going after what she wants in life, but when she figures out that she has a crush on Fitz, she is scared. She once had a crush on her ex-best friend and things didn’t work out when he didn’t feel the same, so she is gun shy. Though Fitz is a bit shy as well and he has no game when it comes to women, so it takes a while for things to get going between these two.

I liked the fact that Fitz wasn’t a ladies man and didn’t really know how to talk to Rosie. It made him quite adorable. Fitz is just a good guy all around, you can see it in the way he treats women, the way he takes care of his cat and the way he is with his friends on his team. He and Rosie are just perfect for each other. They are like two sides of the same coin. Though they each have a secret and you can tell from the start that there will come a time when it all comes out.

This is probably the steamiest of all the books in this series, and I like the fact that Fitz has this different kink which lends itself well to the fact that he is a hockey player and away at games out of town so often. It is really sexy and sweet in its own way. And when they get together, they burn up the pages of the book. I also really enjoyed the fact that all the other men on the Carolina Comets team who have fallen in love in previous books get in the picture and dole out love advice when Fitz needs help.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

I've enjoyed all the Carolina Comets books and I'm a little sad this is the last one. I was so excited to read Fitzy and Rosie's story. Fitz is great and Rosie is so relatable in many ways. I loved watching them fall in love. It was so fun seeing the other players and their significant others, and I'm glad that even though this series is over Teagan is writing more hockey books!

- hockey playing cat dad
- donut slinging cam girl
- voyeurism kink

Ivan Fitzgerald, aka Fitzy Baby, has been watching cam girl RoPlaying for months, feeding his voyeurism kink without the judgement his previous partners have shown. Only Fitz knows Ro in real life, and it’s the adorable donut slinging baker he’s been crushing for a while now.

When Rosie finally shows she’s interested in him too, he isn’t sure how to come clean… & when he accidentally slips up things go a little sideways, but Rosie has her own baggage too. She and Fitz are both complete dumbasses, but honestly so cute & perfect for each other.

this was a surprisingly dirty, quick friends to lovers but they’re secretly online pen pals book.

ivan is a very hot, semi toothless, hockey playing cat dad who loves to watch. rosie is a curvy baker who’s friends with a lot of the players’ wives and she moonlights as an online cam girl.

the voyeurism trope was voyeurism-ing and the spice took me by surprise in the best way. i also loved how obsessed he was with her but he’s like painfully shy and awkward sometimes so he had no idea how to approach her and we love that. shy in the streets, freak in the sheets.

the third act conflict wasn’t my fave because it could have been solved if everyone took two minutes to calm down but otherwise, this was a really good and fun read.

This was super cute.

If you love romcom, quirky humor and characters, great friend groups, a hero who has a predilection for watching and plus size heroine who is a cam girl, you’ll love this one.

I do wish Levi would have had more of a consequence. He got off way to easy for my taste.

Easy, fun and entertaining. Definitely worth a read.

warning⚠️: for some reason the review is all over the place, i couldn't decide what to write so ended up writing random things 🥲

he's so boring but also adorably awkward and i love him. he has this weird obsession with strawberry(i mean i love strawberry too but who drinks strawberry wine 🤢) and a proud cat-dad. i also love her because everyone thinks she's a badass which she is but also she has issues with herself and it was nice to see that she started loving herself more😌

i loved that his secret about watching her stream revealed earlier before they start dating 🙌🏼 but the drama with other man toward the end plus the break up was unnecessary. i was happy that there wasn't any ow/om drama and then her ex best friend came and he was so unrelated to the storyline??? breaking up at thanksgiving dinner you have with your friends and causing drama?? not cool dudes👎🏽

also one of the weirdest parts for me was his missing tooth and her obsession with it. the tooth wasn't weird it's totally normal for hockey players but her obsession???? she could be getting off just thinking about it😈

anyways they were so weird together and i love them. the story was enjoyable(could be longer tbh)and i think i'll read previous books, at least some of the couples( i feel so stupid because i didn't know this was the last book of the series 😒)

This guy was missing one of his front teeth and it really really really bothered me. Idc that the main girl thought it was cute, I found it disturbing and it was all I could think about while reading this book. Why oh why did he say he didn't want to fix it 😭.

This was suggested to me under the guise that the main character was plus sized. As someone who is also plus sized I’m always looking for books with a lead who looks like me, but where the plot isn’t entirely about how disgusting they find themselves and how poorly they were treated romantically because they are fat.

This book doesn’t deliver. Not only is she not actually plus size, she is just curvy. Perfectly curvy thighs but NOT TOO BIG, big boobs, and a flat stomach… like okay this would be fine. There are plenty of curvy women out there, in some ways I can even relate to that. However we constantly hear from Rosie about how she is so heavy, how people call her fat, how she was used by men etc. playing into the fact that she’s “fat” but not in actuality. Already I’m annoyed. Then we get this lame ending conflict where her ex best friend comes and calls her fat and she has a damn spiral because she USED (yes in the past tense, this is man is barely mentioned up until this point) to be in love with him.

All of this aside… I can I accurately say this, as someone who recently found the stories I wrote in middle school, this author writes romance like a 13 year old who isn’t even spoken to a boy romantically. Idk if I have too much shame, hell maybe the reason I’m single is because I’m not willing to publicly make a fucking fool of myself in front of all of my friends by “eye fucking” a man or calling him “cute and naughty”. And jfc every 5 seconds one of the characters is saying shit like “yeah he’s cute but have you seen MY man” ma’am you are in your late 20s get over yourself.

Spent a large majority of the book rolling my eyes or being like “shut the fuck up”.

3.5 stars! Neutral Zone is the last book in the Carolina Comets series and it was another solid addition to the series. This is a fun, low angst, hockey romance series. In this one we have a bit of a hidden identity trope with the hockey hero watching the cam girl, who happens to be the heroine. Fitz knows who she is in real life, but she doesn’t know he’s the same person she chats with online and in person. Rosie is a curvy cam girl who wants to open her own bakery.

This whole series has just a great friend group and seeing all of them again is always a fun time. While this couple wasn’t my fav, it was still fun and brought the steam with the light voyeurism and cam girl setup. I liked the ending and how it sets up a character being traded to the Seattle Serpents, which is the newest spinoff-ish hockey series from this author.

I was so so excited to get an ARC of this book, because I saw everyone raving about the series online and the blurb sounded so intriguing. I don't know if booktok bamboozled me again about a whole series or if it's just this book, but I wasn't good. Like not super bad, just very... Meh. The first thing is that the story relies very heavily on the connections between the players and girlfriends from previous books. It just doesn't fully work as a standalone, which I think even an interconnected series should be able to. In general, I found none of the characters (main and secondary) unique or distinguishable. All of the women just seem to be sassy and "independent" and the men are either super grumpy and emotionally closed of or super hyper and silly. The banter in general is reasonably funny, but everyone acts like the couples are sooo quirky for sometimes calling each other a "butthole". I don't know what kind of relationships ya'll have observed, but that doesn't seem that out of the ordinary between a well working and funny couple.
Now onto the main characters. Who actually also aren't really remarkable. The main (lol) issue of the book for me was that the whole story felt unnecessary. It just seemed like a filler book to wrap up the whole series. Fitz and Rosie aren't all that fleshed out and they don't grow as characters at all. Everything that happens feels like it was made to happen. The drama and misunderstandings were inorganic to just push the story on and have the friends intervene. Rosie has some childhood trauma that only serves to add a bit of friction and create any kind of storyline. Fitz is kinda cute, but his reasons for not just asking her out in the first place didn't make that much sense. The blurb is all about how he thinks he doesn't deserve her, but it's only because of his missing tooth (which she likes) and because he's a bit of a voyeur (not a spoiler, literally revealed on the first page). His sexual preference MIGHT be a reason to be hesitant about approaching her but... She's literally a cam girl. Which he knows. (also revealed within the first few pages) And Fitz's taste doesn't seem that out there? Like everything he describes is like yeah okay, maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but also not furry level kink. Funnily enough the voyeur aspect was kind of the only interesting thing about this book. I really liked the steamy scenes, even though they very much defaulted into him being a bit dominating.
All in all, not a winner for me. Maybe for fans of the series, but I wouldn't recommend it by itself and even in the series it's very weak.

This may not have been my favorite of the series, but it is still good! I think I had something else in mind that I thought would happen with them but didn’t. I’m not going to say much because I’ll spoil everything if I do😭

Fitz and Rosie are super cute, but I wish there were more because this book felt wayyyy too short. Rosie and Fitz were not what I expected, but it worked for them. Their chemistry and vulnerability just hit. Gotta love a man who loves his strawberries 🍓

I’m a little confused about why she’s ending the series with them and starting a new hockey series, but I’m excited to read it and hopefully change my mind about this decision!

Move over Miller (Scoring Chance), Ivan Fitzgerald aka Fitz is here to take over No. 1 spot in this series and probably with all Teagan Hunter male characters she has ever written.

Fitz made me silly smile from start to finish even when he was making a few foolish decisions. Rosie was perfect in every way for him. Even when she was being a dumbass. Her issues almost cost them the HEA that was right in front of them and I love the fact that it was painful for him to stay away, but he respected her decision and hoped she'd come back. But at the end all that mattered was that they made up and found the HEA in each other's arms.

Epilog left me in a bit of a shock, but I'm more than ready to see where this hockey journey will take us next.

Fitz and Rosie were awkward, cute, and sweet together. I had fun reading them being awkward with one another because they were both shy.

Though once they'd finally acted on their attraction, they were one of the sweetest couples in this series. The way they perfectly fit each other and see one another as who they really are was just so endearing to read.

I might have been annoyed at first for the reason of the third-act breakup, but after a while, I realized Rosie needed that space to work things out in herself. It was good that Fitz didn't force her and gave her all the time she needed to see her own worth.

This is definitely a me thing, but I kind of got secondhand embarrassment for the way Rosie groveled. I'm not a fan of grand gestures with a wide audience; just the idea of it makes me cringe so hard. But the effort was still cute and sweet nonetheless. I'm glad that she finally stood up for herself and saw that Fitz was everything she needed.

Overall, this was an okay read. I'm happy, yet sad at the same time, that this series is over. I really enjoyed every couple in each book, but the #1 spot will always belong to my favorites: Ryan and Rhodes ❤️

This was a pleasant surprise I wasn’t expecting. I thought it was going to give wholesome online pen pals. But we thought different. Fitz has a voyeurism kink and enjoys watching others. Also you go girl at Rosie for loving her body and doing what she wants to earn money. This was spicy in ways I wasn’t expecting. I loved the little cameos and appearance of the other characters from the previous books.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Fitz and Rosie were so cute! Rosie works on the donut truck by day, and is pursuing her business degree and living out her cam girl dreams by night. She’s had a crush on Fitz for the longest. Fitz has been crushing on her too, going so far as to be involved in some…voyeur like activities when he’s not on the hockey rink. Fitz thought he was shy, but boy he was NOT.

These two were perfect for each other. Teagan Hunter’s low angst sport romances always hit the spot. I loved catching up with the couples from the past few books, and seeing how Fitz/Rosie fit into the group dynamic.

I’ve so enjoyed the Carolina Comets series! I’m looking forward to the author’s upcoming hockey series, the Seattle Serpents!

TROPES: sports romance (hockey); baker/cam girl heroine; shy-ish hero; hidden identity-ish; great friend group; cute pet cat

TRIGGER WARNINGS: fat shaming (not between H/h)

This book was so adorable and unexpected in every way. Rosie is a streamer who also works at the donut shop where Ivan and his hockey team get their daily donuts. Ivan happens to be crushing on Rosie in person and her online persona as well, having figured out who she is online. This book is so clearer because Ivan and Rosie are both vocal about what they want and need for each other and are able to acknowledge their faults with one another so well! This book was super cute, I enjoyed!

I loved this book so much. This series is one of my all time favorites, hockey or not. The books keep getting better and better. This one was different than the others but no less wonderful. I loved these two and how they were perfectly matched. They were so understanding even when they had their differences. I don’t want to spoil anything, but shy Fitz and confident Rosie definitely stole my heart. 10/10 recommend!

This book was so mid. It wasn’t too engaging to be honest. The characters seemed kinda flat and the plot was kinda uninspired. Also the internal conflicts were so cliche. I really
wanted to like this one but it just wasn’t great to be honest. I didn’t really connect with the writing style.
