During the month of July my wife and I traveled in support of several other organizations that we belong to. The first was the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) Legacy Groups Reunion held in Benicia, CA. The reunion was titled "The Last Liberty". This was the last time the "Indy" would bless our shores before delivering the components for "Little Boy" to Tinian Island. If you are unfamiliar with the tragedy of the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) I recommend you read one of the following books, "Indianapolis" by Authors Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic or "Out of the Depths" by USS Indianapolis survivor Edgar Harrell, USMC.
As members of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, we were invited to the movie set of the "Chosen" in Provo, UT. It was a moving experience watching the process of filming the story of Jesus. We are close friends with the star of "Chosen" Jonathan Roumie and it was his invitation that allowed us to attend the filming.
You are probably wondering why I am telling you about these other organizations. Simply stated, I am a billboard for our association and wear clothing that clearly advertises CIBA! I speak with many individuals throughout my travels that have either earned a CIB or know family members who have. It is always a pleasure for me to take time to hear their stories. I am always packing business cards and coins asking them to join our esteemed association, not forgetting to get their name. It's one of the best parts of being your Commander - interacting with those who proudly wear the CIB and their family and friends!
My point being - all of us are ambassadors of the CIB Community and beyond! I ask all of you to become billboards for our association at home, on the road or whenever you are interacting with the public in general . Checkout our Merchandise website to purchase a shirt, hat or even a sticker to help bring attention to those "Baptised Under Fire".

| | CIBA Weather Station It’s Summer! How to handle the heat If you have any story suggestions please email us at support@cibassoc.org | | | (click to enlarge pictures) | | 🇺🇸 What is a heat wave? A heat wave is a period of abnormally hot weather generally lasting more than two days. Heat waves can occur with or without high humidity. They have potential to cover a large area, exposing a high number of people to hazardous heat. Heat can be very taxing on the body; check out the heat related illnesses that can occur.
Extreme heat also impacts our infrastructure - from transportation to utilities to clean water and agriculture. High heat can deteriorate and buckle pavement, warp or buckle railway tracks, and exceed certain types of aircraft operational limits. Electricity usage increases as air conditioning and refrigeration units in homes and offices work harder to keep indoors cooler. Transmission capacity across electric lines is reduced during high temperatures, further straining the electrical grid. Water resources are also strained as conventional power plants require large quantities of water for cooling and crops may need increased water consumption, and people increase water consumption to stay hydrated and cool. Heat can have lasting impacts as crops may be damaged, reducing production which leads to short supply and or increased cost to the farmers and consumers.
Stay Informed: Monitor local radio and television (including NOAA Weather Radio), internet and social media for information and updates. |

| | From The CIBA NewsroomBowe Bergdahl’s Sentence Is Thrown Out by Judge Be sure to keep up with all the latest news in the CIBA Newsroom | | | 🇺🇸 A federal judge has voided former Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s court-martial sentence and subsequent rulings on the case by military judges, setting up the possibility that he could request a reinstatement of rank or change of status for his dishonorable discharge.
Senior Judge Reggie Walton, of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., issued an order Tuesday that partially granted the federal government’s motion to dismiss the Bergdahl case. But Walton ruled in favor of Bergdahl’s argument that the Army judge in his case failed to disclose a possible conflict of interest — that he had applied for a civilian position at the Justice Department while presiding over the court-martial. |

| | | Better Than MRE’s Brown Sugar Oatmeal Cookies Recipe Courtesy Of “Food Networks” Ree Drummond | | | Ingredients
1 c. salted butter, softened 2 c. packed dark brown sugar 2 tsp. vanilla extract 2 eggs 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 3 c. old-fashioned oats
Directions
To Start: Preheat the oven to 350˚F. In the bowl of an electric mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat together the butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the vanilla. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition and scraping the bowl as needed.
|
| Directions Con’t
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in 2 to 3 parts, mixing until just combined after each addition. Mix in the oats until just combined. Use your preferred size cookie scoop (or a regular spoon) to drop portions of dough onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, spacing them a couple inches apart. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes or until dark and chewy. If you'd like a crispier cookie, just cook a little longer!
After removing them from the oven, let the cookies cool slightly on the pan, then transfer the cookies onto a plate for serving.
Tip: Add 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts to the flour mixture if you'd like a nutty flavor and crunch.
