Addams Family composer dies at 93

Mizzy's hits included With a Hey and a Hi and a Ho-Ho-Ho

The songwriter behind The Addams Family theme tune, Vic Mizzy, has died at the age of 93.

Mizzy also wrote the theme tune to comedy series Green Acres and songs for recording artists including Dean Martin, Doris Day and Perry Como.

His hits included The Whole World Is Singing My Song.

Mizzy's manager Jonathan Wolfson confirmed his client had died at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, but said he did not know the cause of death.

Mizzy was born in New York. He played accordion and piano as a child and was mainly self-taught as a composer. Many of his songs were hits while he was serving in the Navy during World War II.

Doris Day sang one of his most popular tunes, My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time, in 1945.

Mizzy's TV career began in the late 1950s, with music for Shirley Temple's Storybook.

His famous, finger-snapping Addams Family tune was reprised in the 1990s feature films.

Mizzy sang the theme tune himself, overdubbing himself three times to give the impression of multiple vocalists.
