Former 7th District congressman Joe Schwarz, R-Battle Creek, is endorsing Ann Arbor businessman
in the Republican gubernatorial primary.
Schwarz will also serve as chairman of
a new website aimed to bring in voters who might not have voted before in a Republican primary.
Schwarz is encouraging Democrats and independents to vote for Snyder on Aug.3.
“Voters have no more important decision to make in this election than selecting their next governor. Regardless of party affiliation, one candidate stands out from the rest of the field,” Schwarz wrote. "Even if you don’t agree with every single position he may have, Rick’s leadership is exactly what we need in these tough economic times.”
In a statement, he said that Snyder is the best candidate for governor in these tough economic times.
"Not only does he have the business background and a record of creating jobs, but I know he has the work ethic and leadership qualities that are needed in Lansing,” Schwarz wrote in a statement. “I’m confident that Rick is going to be able to work with both Republicans and Democrats in Lansing and follow through on his agenda. With his strong integrity and economic focus, Rick is the ideal candidate to lead our state in a new direction.”
Snyder wrote that he was thankful and honored to have the support of Schwarz.
"I respect Joe's common sense approach and I am grateful for his years of leadership and service to our country and the state of Michigan,” Snyder wrote.
Schwarz made headlines recently
GOP congressional candidate Brian Rooney, over Tim Walberg, who defeated Schwarz in the 2006 GOP congressional primary after painting him as a liberal.
