United Solo, a consortium of theater artists dedicated to the genre of solo performance, is pleased to announce the first annual United Solo Theater Festival, which will take place November 12-14, 2010 at Theatre Row in New York City.

United Solo is currently soliciting submissions of all kinds of solo performances, including plays, storytelling, puppetry, dance, multimedia, stand-up comedy and improvisation. "We are seeking a diverse range of shows with varying perspectives and styles. Our mission is to discover exciting new work, inspire dialogue, and celebrate the intimate relationship between an audience and a solo performer," says Artistic Director Omar Sangare.

Dr. Sangare, an accomplished director, actor, and writer. He was awarded Best Actor at the New York International Fringe Festival and the San Francisco Fringe Festival for his solo play, True Theater Critic, and had performed it internationally to wide acclaim. A professor at Williams College, Dr. Sangare previously founded the Dialogue ONE Theatre Festival for solo performance in Williamstown, MA.

The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2010. For additional information and an application form, please visit www.unitedsolo.org.

Additionally, United Solo is proud to present the annual uAward, which honors outstanding solo performers. These are artists who create original, captivating performances with sensitivity, audacity, and wisdom. They remind us of the immense power of a single performer, and the possibilities of solo storytelling.

This year, the United Solo board has nominated three performers for the 2010 uAward: Carrie Fisher in Wishful Drinking (Roundabout Theatre Company), Matt Oberg in The Event (Barrow Street Theatre), and Anna Deavere Smith in Let Me Down Easy (Second Stage Theater).

United Solo will announce the recipient of the uAward at the inaugural United Solo Theatre Festival.
