There’s something syrupy good about J-Pop.  Add some high-tech augmented reality that places Hatsune Miku on your very own table and you’ve got a potential hit.  She’s already a vocaloid digital creation so why not make her AR as well?

Which makes me wonder if when AR finally has more mainstream bona fides, Japan will be the ones to embrace it fully.  Not Korea or Germany or even the old US of A.

** edit – and yes I know I’ve posted this before, but the creator has made some nice improvements

  • My money is totally on Japan with AR. It just seems like the rest of the world keeps dropping the ball as far as development is concerned. How many apps do we really need to find a Starbucks or a subway, anyway? Most people just Twitter for that now.

  • I’m not putting my money on Japan for development. I think when real HMD AR is available, it’ll take off in Japan. For one, they don’t mind looking weird with new technology and two, they love stuff like the anime girl.

I speak from many, many months time spent in Japan in the last fifteen years.

As for development? That’s a completely different story and I think you’ve got lots of great competitors out there.

  • As I think about it, Tom, you’re probably right. I’m reminded of the ARis project that is out of Japan, but I don’t know of much else. And of course that is anime based. I think I’m just frustrated that there are no commercial HMDs yet. LOL!
