(Originally I was going to include a 'if 3 days pass then we'll start heading towards the city' but I realized that could complicate matters even more. Therefore my suggestion is that me and John stay, which I may have mistyped in my original post)

I am fine with staying behind too if I fail to stop the others from running away.

Whew, yeah, 3 entire days would mean massive amounts of gameplay disjointed.  That would hurt.

So I'll roll and see what happens--and, if you split up, I hope you'll reconnect soon enough.

Previous -- Next

Let's see what happens, shall we?

Dustan calls to the others to take up the hunt, but John hurries over and argues for a moment's delay.  The reasons are multiple.  Weak health, for one.  And the fact that you still have two wheelbarrows, and if Dustan wants to start a full-speed run while pushing the things, then there'd better be enough hands for it.  A look around reveals that Dwain is more concerned with taking care of the deceased, while Alyssa Alpine verbally disavows interest in a chase scene.

Dwain selects one of the tanned scaled turkey hides and brings it to cover Overseer's remains.  Certain respects paid, you head back to gather the rest of the unused leathers.  There seem to be five of the things, a majority of which you just don't recognize.

Alyssa sizes up what property was left behind by the thieves:

Lantern (iron): 2 kg

Waterskin (surface leather): 0 kg by itself
--Water, one day: 1 kg

Damaged tunic (surface fabric): 1 kg

Backpack (surface leather): 2 kg, 8/40 kg capacity
--Food, four days: 4x 1 kg
--Blanket (surface fabric): 2 kg
--Soulshine lantern (etherstone): 2x 1 kg
Everyone who shares the light of this lantern has a chance to siphon the level-up HP of a recently-deceased person; one use

And, yup, your remaining two wheelbarrows are completely empty.  John tosses the cantor's backpack into one to make a start on the looting.

You also take a moment to copy that wall carving with graphite and parchment.  Well, what carving is still perceptible: others have been made and scratched out since.

There are none of the "big ugly people" you're used to seeing in carvings, but the "shiny riches" theme is present as before.  This time it's a scrawny person as the central figure: somebody very scrawny indeed, holding up tools of some sort and standing atop a pile of riches just radiating with wealth.  What is with these things?

Lots of questions for you!

What do you want to do with Overseer's old possessions?  Dustan (Dustan Hache): I'm reminded that you are the only exile no longer carrying a lantern.  Would you like to pick up Overseer's?  For now, Dwain (Starver) is leaving it with the corpse as a funerary gesture . . . but this is the most respect for the dead you players have ever shown, so I dunno how long that will last.

John (ziizo): Did you intend to keep the horrible disgusting rotten meat you found in the backpack?  For now I've tossed it all in the wheelbarrow, stinking up the place.  (I've also added "Copy of carving D" to your inventory.)

Dwain (Starver): The only remaining items on the cantor are an iron mace, waterskin, damaged tunic, and cultist hood.  Did you want any of those in the wheelbarrow too?

It occurs to me that the second part of our mission (after the vials) might be best proved by taking the whole of the Cantor's possessions (in leiu of corpse, which I'm sure nobody wants to stack on the wheelbarrow, and I'm still more inclined to give at least a passing respect to it, as I can).

Someone (current or imminently joining us) might also want the mace for practical purposes. So load up all 'loot'/proof items, unless anybody specifically wants anything in their personal inventories.

BTW, I don't know if anybody wants to try the Soulshine (on Overseer, or even the other corpses), , but I'll initially be in the vicinity, busying myself, if anybody needs me.

Then, after dealing with what I'm dealing with, if there's time and nobody is pressing things peek further clockwise past the Leathers Room, without going too far out of sight of the others. (I'd suggest that someone else at least checks the water, the other way, sees if it's noticably fit to refill waterskins. Or, if not/in doubt, fill one waterskin, and keep it for future and/or emergency use.)

And don't bother to complain if the Lantern is taken while I'm gone. I did the bit I needed to myself, and that was just a ritualistic placeholder. It'd get looted by the next wanderers down here, I imagine.

I don't have much left to classify as "the loot."  Do you intend to take daggers, waterskins, and damaged tunics off of cultists?  Otherwise, you'll need to tell me what you search/explore in order to find anything.

(I suggest 'yes' to the 'intend to take...' bit, for reasons I outlined earlier. But I'm not personally stripping them all. At most, the Cantor, to give the group proof of its accomplishment, maybe as a handy sideline to doing (dubious?) honour to the chief body. The more mercenary amongst us might well find it more compelling, leaving others free to make sure we haven't missed anything significant round the next corner of the cavern, perhaps.)

Yes, bring the lantern. Let the other scavenge what they will, I am not letting some cultists get away with theft AND murder!

Actually, follow Dustan. Keep my Javelin, use my skills as a hunter to help track the cultists.

So, considering the interest here, I'd presume that the two wheelbarrows will remain behind for the two people who aren't in hot pursuit to load up with goods.  If so, then it should work for us to split up the party (briefly) while the two left behind figure out just how much looting they're doing.

And, you know, tempting some other calamity to strike.  But you didn't hear that from me.  And then we take the overall plot back down that tunnel to the northwest.

Yes?  Right?

I had that idea regarding the two wheelbarrows (after all, hot pursuit with the pursuers *rumble rumble*ing sounded less than efficient). If it's possible to get the whole area (this side of further arrow tunnels) checked out, bonus, but I wouldn't want to push it.

Okay, I'm preparing that update now.  And, again, splitting up the group briefly will work; I'm planning upcoming updates around this.

Meanwhile, Dwain (Starver), do you want to use a soulshine lantern with Overseer's corpse?  You would have learned what the things were from shopping back in Rock Bottom.  Otherwise, I'm tossing all the rest of his possessions into the wheelbarrow as part of John (ziizo)'s general cleaning of the area.

I had hoped it would be a group thing, to which I would ensure I was there for, but with half of us rushing off, it seems like nobody took my OOC hint to do it.

I could perhaps meta-justify it as what to do just as Dustan takes the mundane-lantern away, or as soon as I return with my load of Cantor-loot to find it already gone. Go on then. "Will you sit a moment, to reflect upon the fate of this brave* man. Or should we revere him as Abott?" Specifically invite John/Ziizo to sit a brief moment, between his stints of loot-shifting, and the other two as well if I've not missed them (forces you to roll turn-initiative, even without combat?  ;)) or overly delaying thejr departure in the process. Call it 'closure'. (Though it does seem something of a vampirical process, if it does as advertises. Or something more carrionesque, so somewhat Gnoll-like?)

Still, I'm up for it. You know I like to see how things work.
