Charmaine Pauls was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She obtained a degree in Communication at the University of Potchefstroom and followed a diverse career path in journalism, public relations, advertising, communication, and brand marketing. Her writing has always been an integral part of her professions.

When she moved to Chile with her French husband, she started writing full-time. She has been publishing novels and short stories since 2011.

Charmaine Pauls is one of my most favorite authors and this series has really gotten my interest. This is a prequel and second book in the seven book series of the Aeromancist which is in her Forbidden Arts series.
Lann Drean, Russian aeromancist meets Katherine White a/k/a "Kat" while enjoying his vacation home which is a monastery filled with ancient books in Santiago. Lann is a local celebrity and patron of the arts, handsome, secretive, keeps out of the limelight, not much is known about him or anyone he is seeing, and he keeps low profile from the media. Kat is an exchange student from America attempting to write her thesis using some of the books from his library that he opens to the public on select days. Kat is a very beautiful young woman who has been hurt in the past and is quite "gun shy" about getting into any commitment of any sort. The energy between these two is very volatile. Reader should expect a big cliffhanger as book three in the series is the other part to their story and I cannot wait to read it!

Have you ever started a book only to be kept up for two nights because the story just pulled you in?
This was my experience with Aeromancist, The Beginning. I have to say the loss of sleep was totally worth it!
Laan and Katherine are becoming one of my favorite book couples. Laan is one beautiful but complicated man who hides a very big part of himself from most everyone. He grew up on the streets of Russia and is wary of commitment and love, but he gets one glimpse of Katherine and is enamored right away. Katherine is a savvy young exchange student working on her thesis. She has never encountered anyone like Laan and when he invites her to experience an intense 30 day affair, her attraction and love of danger compel her to say yes.
Here starts one of the most erotic and beautiful stories I have ever read. You just know that pain and heartbreak are coming but you just hope against hope that you'll be surprised. Of course, this is a dark romance and a Charmaine Pauls book so no... it's painful with a big fat heart wrenching cliff hanger! I will be counting the days waiting for the next book in the series!
