There is a reason why I tend to stay away from romances in which one or the other protagonist has had a previous love. They always disappoint me because it takes away from the story of the couple you are suppose to be reading & routing about. The heroine always comes across as second best or a rebound and I tend to want to know more about the ex. So it isn't as if I didn't know this when I picked it up because the author clearly states this is a story about a guy who is hung up on his first love.

In the most part, I liked the romance between Rhett & A.J. (the heroine). I liked how strong, true & steady his feelings were for her once he got his head out of his butt. I liked how he defined the difference of the kind of love he had for the heroine & his ex. What I didn't like though is how long it took him to get over the ex, how the heroine kept waiting around years for him to get over her and most importantly, how he told heroine at the end that he would always love his ex because she was his first love.

Up until then, I was beginning to believe that heroine was "the one" for him but then the author threw that curve ball on me and she completely lost me. I get it. The ex was his first love but I wanted him to be COMPLETELY & FOREVER over her. But with that sentence, as a reader, I didn't believe he was or would ever be! That is how it is suppose to be in real life. When you commit to someone, there should be no lingering love in your heart for anyone else other then the person you're with. So when he told heroine that the ex would forever be in his heart, that right there killed it for me.

So while it is well written in the most part, for me it was forgettable & I think I'll stay away from these type of stories for good.....

I knew before I started reading this book what was it about. So I won't be rating it because it's not fair for me to rated low because it has many of my pet peeves, it's my fault since I knew before going in.

Hero was still pining after his high school ex girlfriend in the beginning, no I didn't like it and I was pretty certain that the heroine was going to be his rebound or second best.

Heroine was ok, she was sweet, she too was pining after the hero. I figured and this wasn't mentioned but if she saw him with his ex then she must have seen him with the hook ups that he had after his ex. At some point I thought she was too pathetic waiting for a man that she knew was still in love with his ex.
The way the hero talked about his ex in the beginning of the book, how she was his best friend, his love, how good and sweet she was, how she broke his heart, how he didn't think he was going to be able to move on with another woman that wasn't her. Yeah.. yeah, blah.. blah, Yada.. Yada.

It seems like the author managed turned the ex into catty little witch.

Apart from the couple clichés, surprise pregnancy (heroine's pregnancy) ex drama, how the hero managed to forget telling the heroine the pictures his ex sent him, the love notes and her return just caused unnecessary drama the hero turned out to be ok. I actually kinda liked him in the end.
There's no doubt in my mind that he loved the heroine, whatever he felt for his ex was puppy love, I still didn't liked that he told the heroine that in some part of his heart he was still going to love his ex because she was his first love, his first everything and that she showed him love. I would have preferred for him to keep that to himself, there was no need for him to tell her that.

Safety:
~Hero and heroine knew each other from before, no mention when was the last time they had sex with other people. He wasn't celibate after his ex left him.
~Heroine's not a virgin but she wasn't experienced either.
~OW drama, his ex returns wanting him back, he turns her down, there wasn't any doubt about his love for the heroine. He makes it know to the OW and to everyone.
~A tad bit insecure heroine but I understood why when his ex was a beautiful "good and sweet" turned catty witch.

Favorite Quotes:

I’ll admit it—I was a twenty-one-year-old guy who was still terrified of his mother. That woman could get pretty vicious when needed…

I’m here with you because I wanna be, not because I feel like I need to be. You’re not who I thought you were, Allison Jo, you’re so much more. I wanna know everything there is to know about you. I want you to be the girl I call first with anything, whether it’s big or small, and I wanna be that guy for you in return.

If I thought I was embarrassed before, it had nothing on the current situation… Once I was inside my car and had a minute to actually breathe, I looked down, and my heart felt like it hit the seat beneath my ass. I had my damn shirt on backward, and what made it worse was the tag was sticking out just below my chin. Why me?

My Review:

I quickly fell into this easy to follow and engaging story with realistic and relatable storylines containing a fair balance of angst, humor, and sensuality, and packed with likable and endearing characters. A.J. was a sweet and delightful main character and Rhett was a near perfect BBF; he was sexy, thoughtful, attentive, and protective. Ms. Harms brought a refreshing twist to the dilemma of giving up and letting go of first love, and the possible second chance at first love not always being the best choice. I was holding my breath a bit but was more than satisfied with the conclusion and eager to see what this clever author does with the rest of the series.

The blurb is clear: he’s had his first love before the h arrives on the scene.

So my issue isn’t that she’s not his first love.

THESE 👇🏼are my issues:
🚨For the entire time the Hxh were together, he lies to her, albeit by omission, about him keeping all the correspondence his ex gf sends him. He’s reasons are feeble and a cop out; here’s 1:
“At first, I think it was because I felt bad for throwing them out. Because that part of my life did exist, Grace. Harley and I were together. We shared those memories, we were an us.” Blah blah blah

🚨In fact, it’s all a damn cop out because in the romance genre we have “first love New Adult/YA romances” where the Hxh’s book ends in a solid HEA that stands strong throughout the years. THEN we have books like this, where just because the H and ow are each other’s first loves, that love is suddenly invalidated as true love that can stand the test of time? 🧐 Why is the love between a H and ow as teenagers, not real love? Ugh. It’s like all the hea NA and YAs I’ve read until now are “lesser than”.

{Harley is the ow.}
“I don’t want Harley,” I confessed, feeling that familiar burn return in my chest. “I know a part of me will always love her, but only because she was my first love, my first of a lot of things. I used to think that what I felt for her was it, it was that big epic love that I’ve seen with my dad and my mom…..”

🚨He doesn’t grovel.
He LOVES the h BIG time. In fact, ADORES her, and he does choose her.
BUT
He hung onto whatever parts of the ow he could for the DURATION of his relationship with the h, yet HE DOESN'T GROVEL. It’s such an anticlimax: the angst of the H and ow issue is just…gone… like one minute it’s a BIG problem and the next it’s (((poof))); gone with the wind.

Then they live hea.

…I think…

E ainda temos bebê no final.
Foi uma boa adição à série.
Mas eu ainda penso que ela foi a segunda melhor.
--------------------

Our hero spends four years loving and waiting for the supposed love of his life (aka the bitch who go away) to return to him.
He only opens his eyes when he sees her post on Facebook with another guy. A clear sign she moves on as he stood in the past.
He begins a relationship with our heroine and at first still thinks a lot about his ex.
The ex is presented as wonderful and full of qualities and that she was the love of his life. But she moved her life forward and away from him but kept sporadic communication as if she wanted him to always be there waiting for her when she felt like coming back.
He was fool enough to wait for 4 years and if he had not seen her pictures with another guy he would not have taken the initiative to date our heroine.
I bet he would be forever waiting.
But the story caught my attention and I waited for the moment when his ex had decided he wanted him back. I wanted to know what he would do and what his reaction would be.
I liked the heroine and she knew he was still fixated on the ex and suffering from being abandoned. She knew where she was getting into and went into the relationship with her eyes open.
He gradually fell in love with our heroine and I became convinced of his love for her. And we still have baby in the end.
It was a good addition to the series.
But I still think she was second best.
==============
Harley held my heart; she had from that moment on.

Not only was this girl my love, she was my best friend too.

I wasn’t sure I was up for a party by the lake. The same lake Harley and I used to make out near time and time again. The very same lake where I’d lost my virginity to the girl who broke my heart.

I’d have to be blind not to notice her. It just didn’t feel right, because I knew part of me was still hung up on Harley, and that wasn’t fair to AJ.

It’s been four years since she left, three years since you ended it, and you’ve only spoken a few times a month since then. I think we both know that what you two had is long over.

I’d foolishly held on to hope so long that Harley and I would somehow make it through this separation and find our way back to one another. I held on to that idea that my first love was the girl I was always meant to end up with, no matter what.

I knew how hung up he’d been on his ex, and that fear he still might be was always on my mind.

I knew that Harley would always hold a place in my heart; she was the first of many things for me. I also knew that our time was over, what we had was gone, and I was okay with that now.

2.5 not-for-me ⭐’s

This is a spinoff of her Southern Boys series that follows the kids of those pairings. Rhett is the little boy of the h from Forgiving Reed all grown up. I didn’t read that series and never felt lost, BUT like many of these standalone friend series… it is FULL of secondary characters and their subplots that will continue in their books… so like me, if you don’t love the secondary plot blockers… BEWARE.

The blurb sets this up, Rhett had a child/teen love connection with Harley and planned to marry her (despite being juniors in HS) when her dad was relocated to Seattle for a job. The book picks up 4.5 years later with Rhett still struggling to move on without having had much contact with Harley over the years, and AJ hot on his trail.

A few things worth mentioning…

🔶 I didn’t realize the mc’s would still be so young, but they’re still in college, and it shows. There was a bit of a juvenile tone to the book, and the angst felt like teen drama.

🔶 Rhett takes a bit to get over the ex, but once he decides to open his heart to AJ, I never felt like she was second best and he never wavered.

🔶 AJ is originally described as a smidge pathetic/desperate like she has been following him around for years looking for scraps while he friend zoned her, but it wasn’t super bad. I only point this out in case you find her off putting in the first few chapters. Their dynamic will shift to him being all in, so sit tight.

Bottom Line- This isn’t my type of read… and honestly, I’m not positive (based on the few books I’ve read) that this author is a good fit for me. I like grown-ups and drama, and she keeps things pretty steady which is great if you want a sweet romance but not-so great when you want emotions. The ex does return around 65% that kicked up the plot a little bit, but not a lot because she isn’t around a ton and the couple is solid.

My only real complaint is that the author kept having him have the same convo/repeat himself A LOT where he basically stated

CA Harms is the Queen of FEELS!!!! She is back with a beautiful and emotional new series called Brooklet Dreams which tells Rhett and AJ’s story. Rhett is Reed’s stepson. You will remember his story from Forgiving Reed from the Southern Boys series. This is continuing the 2nd generation and WOW does it. I love every CA Harms writes because she writes characters that connect and come across as family/friends. They are relatable, personable. You become invested in their happiness and that is hard to get across but not for Ms. Harms. She does such a great job enchanting you with her characters, plot and scenery.
In this new story, we see that Rhett is mourning his first girlfriend who moved away and is hesitant to fall for anyone new. I mean, AJ was introduced to him and was immediately friend-zoned. She was right in front of him and he kept overlooking her because of misplaced love for this first love. Yet AJ showed that her love was solid and true. When Rhett woke up and saw AJ finally- I wont tell you what did it for him finally but when he did, OMG that scene was amazing. The emotions that came forth for them both was so beautiful and the FEELS that happened between them both was awesome. Soon there was this side to Rhett that was protective, possessive and oh so swoony. AJ had some things going on that her sweet and outgoing side masked and he was right there to take care of her. I just was making googly eyes at my kindle rooting them on. Rhett had the best role model in his stepdad Reed who was there for him and showed him how to be a standup guy. There are some twists and surprises in this book and OMG the ending was awesome. I am dying to read book 2 in this new series. I have to say, this started off a little slow but it was a slow burner of a romance that burst into sizzling red hot flames and wow wow wowza what a fabulous read!! This is a romance that you MUST READ and cannot miss!!!

Ok! First thing first. I want to inform you that almost two years ago, I had promised to myself not to read a young-adult or new-adult book again. There was too much fuss, unnecessary drama in them and, the storylines weren't close to my tastes anymore. Until Allure shows up. The synopsis prepared me for what I would expect from the story. So I chose to give it a go because of its turbulence. Have to say that I chose right!

C.A. Harms became instantly one of my favourite authors after finishing the first book I have read by her, which is Allure. I still can't pinpoint what exactly sparked that favoured feeling but I would settle by saying that it's mostly the author's narration and then the storyline itself. Majorly sweet and incredible spicy, this new-adult story reminds me how unconditional love can exist only if we are ready to fight for it.

I can't believe how the male and female leader characters became so much more driven and assertive through the years. Rhett, who's the first who narrates, is the son of Kori's, the main heroine of Southern Boys book #1.(A series I ought to find the time to read soon) I believe that Rhett is a hell of a male character! Mature, down to earth, caring, sensitive, loving, thoughtful, dominant, to name just a few. Even being at his early twenties, he melted me into a puddle around his feet with his actions and words. Not many heroes have done this to me, so I fell head over heels for him for good...

Rhett gave a new meaning to the word love and AJ is the reason for this manifestation. Someone would say that she is a pawn of her desires, or too naive for pursuing Rhett in the first place, however, AJ is anything but this. She is the heroine I always admire for her strength and porpoise. She is a smart woman, has a great sense of humour, she is the girl next door. AJ was a joy to read. I could literally feel all her emotions and I related to her on many occasions through the story.

Rhett and AJ brought the feels and the sizzle to Allure. I couldn't get enough from them, nor wanted to reach the end of their story. Each chapter a new obstacle, each page an riveting display of love. How is it possible not to love Allure after all these details? What's more...C.A Harms is not only delivers a great romance but she is also deals with important life themes, both through Rhett's and AJ's lives. The author's stance on this is remarkable, wanting nothing more but to give thought to the reader's mind about how their choices affects their future one way or another. I honestly suggest you to read Allure...

Until next time, enjoy your free time reading great books with the most unforgettable stories.

Rhett Jackson thought he had found his one true love at the age of twelve. But the day Harley left before college, Rhett still held hope for a future together. Now in his senior year in college, Rhett finally discovers that Harley has moved on and he must do the same. He decides to pursue AJ, the sweet girl that has been there for him as a friend but always wanted more.
Allison Jo "AJ" fell for Rhett the moment she saw him in the baseball field. But she knew he was mending a broken heart and still hoping that his old love would come back. When she finally realizes that Rhett is ready to move on and give them a chance, she couldn’t be happier.
But did Rhett really forget Harley? Are AJ insecurities about Rhett's feelings for her true? Wha will happen when Harley returns?

Allure is an amazing book with a captivating story. Rhett and AJ's story hooked me from the first page and I couldn't put my Kindle down until I finished it. It starts all sweet, funny and sexy, with all the teasing and flirting between Rhett and AJ, the bantering between them and the funny situations with all their friends and families, but soon the drama and angst commences when not only AJ's insecurities appear but also Harley comes back.

Rhett is a swoon worthy young man. He believes in love and in happy endings and always believed that Harley was his one true love. Meeting AJ changed him and made him a happier man. He's very protective of his family and of those he loves, especially AJ. He knows what he wants and he will fight for it.
AJ is a sweet but sassy young woman. She fell hard for Rhett and waited until he was ready to make her move. But she didn't make it easy! I loved that about her. He loves her father and her sister but she's a complicated relationship with her mother. When Harley comes back, AJ really wants to believe Rhett loves her, but she's afraid he'll choose his old love.

C.A. Harms did a phenomenal job with Allure! Rhett and AJ's story is the perfect start to the Brooklet Dreams series and I can't wait to read what comes next!

Dumb

I read this book before but it had a completely different ending. It’s still ridiculous. The male lead pines for his first love who’s family moved right before their senior year of high school. The male lead says she broke his heart as if she had a choice not to move. Eye roll. In the first version he finally starts dating a new girl and convinces himself he’s fallen in love. In the first version the first love comes back and they end up together. In this version the author rewrites the current girlfriend into the first love’s storyline after she shows up and the male lead gets back together with her. The problem with this is that the book summary doesn’t match the new version so you’ll spend most of the book anticipating the first loves’s return. She does eventually return and the author decides to write her as mean, shallow person. It’s terrible. I didn’t reread the book but instead skipped around to see how things played out in this version. Again, awful writing. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

These Sexy Southern Men will leave you wanting more of them! Rhett thought he had found his forever but life threw him an unexpected curve that threw his "forever" plan aside. Allison Jo (AJ) has always had a sweet spot for Rhett but it seemed he was "promised" to someone else so all she could do was watch from afar. When life didn't turn out the way Rhett thought it would, he became stagnate and just could not move on, until one day he realized what/who had been in front of him this whole time could just be his forever, all he had to do was give it a chance.

There was some drama and cattiness but all in all this was a sweet, southern, sexy second chance read that had rooting for Rhett's HEA. ~Kara 4 Stars

I loved this book! This is the first book I've read by this author, but I plan to read a lot more of her books. It has some great and wonderful characters, especially the main characters Rhett Jackson and his girl AJ. But the story begins when Rhett was in high school was together with Harley who he thought he would love forever. It turns out four years down the road she dumps him. He's devastated, and is waiting for her, hoping she will come back to him. But that's just part of this story. It's a great book, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did. I look forward to reading more books by CA Harms!

I still have happy tears in my eyes while I’m writing this review. C.A. Harms never fails to deliver a story that leaves me breathless. No matter what she’s writing about I end up in love and Allure is no exception to that. Sweet, heart warming romance kicked up with the perfect amount of heat. Even filled with sweetness there was still just the right bit of drama to keep you on your toes and pull you even deeper into Rhett and AJ’s story.

I fully admit at first I wasn’t sure what to think of AJ. Seeing her first through only Rhett’s eyes I expected someone meek and shy, but I quickly saw the confident and sassy side that AJ has to go along with the big hearted caring side. You couldn’t help but root for her with Rhett because she was so endearing. Rhett himself just may be the king of swoon. Incredibly sexy with just as much sweetness I was falling for him right along with AJ. These two had a slow burn that was still filled with so much romance I couldn’t help but get swept up in it!

Allure by C.A Harms is the first book in her Brooklet Dreams series. This is a spin-off of her Southern Boys series, which I have not read, however, did not feel lost.

Rhett thought he met the girl of his dreams when he was twelve. They made plans for their forever, but when she leaves, Rhett is heartbroken. He lives with hope that she will come back some day. Alison Jo, AJ, fell in love with Rhett when she met him, but knew his heart belonged to another. She became his friend and biggest supporter.

Rhett never gave up hope on his first true love, but when he realizes it may be time for him to move on, he finally sees AJ as more than a friend. She was the one person who was there for him and helped him move forward. He saw himself finally being happy and able to have a future, but what will change when his past comes back? When his heart is tested, will he fight for the woman he truly wants and love?

The feels in this one! Angsty, emotional and sexy read! I enjoyed reading Allure by C.A. Harms, even if there were times I was very frustrated, I was captivated by the story and the characters. Looking forward to more from this series and going back and reading the original series.

Little Rhett is all grown up.
I really didn't see why he was so hung up on his ex, it was teenage love, and I'm going to be mean here, but there was nothing particularly special about her.
I was annoyed with him for starting something with AJ while still thinking about Harley. Though I don't think once he was all in, that his love for AJ was second to Harley, I do believe that he was over that.
AJ, I started out thinking she was going to be your typical doormat, but she wasn't naive, she knew Rhett needed to be over Harley before she could be all in.
Harley was handled well. Her changing was believable, she went from small country to big city.
I look forward to Raven and Mikey.

Sweet and sexy friends to lovers….

I couldn’t wait to dive into this spinoff of the Southern Boys – a series I can’t get enough of! This first outing was sweet, sexy and full of family, just what I expected – and hoped for…

“She tested me, she taunted me, and she spiked a hunger inside me I didn’t know even existed.”

What happens when your life plans take a sudden, unexpected detour. How do you go from knowing exactly what you want and how you were getting there to not having a clue what would happen next? Rhett does this by not planning anymore. By taking one day at a time, with one foot in the past, a present full of pain and sadness and a future he can’t contemplate at all. That’s the funny thing about life though. Not all surprises are bad…

I enjoyed all the characters in this family-infused romance but Allison Jo stood out among the family-filled crowd. She was funny and quiet, supportive in a way that just was. She was exactly what Rhett deserved and longed for, if he would recognize it. Their tentative steps forward were sweet and sexy, and full of all kinds of love’s surprises. While the drama that ensued may have been predictable it allowed these lovers to open their eyes, and their hearts, even more…

A great start to the series!

I was pulled right into this truly emotional story. The story has laughs, betrayal, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Rhett’s story. Rhett was sure he had his forever girl. They were best friends and then became so much more. They planned a future, but that future never happened. She left him when she left town. Rhett was shattered and was only existing. When he meets Allison, she brings him back to life. She makes him feel. He is finally happy after all the hard years. What happens when he finally looks forward to the future and just when he is feeling better about it his past returns. Will Rhett fight for what he wants? What does he want now his past or his present? Can he choose? Limits are tested. Lve is tested. In the end will all the fighting be worth it?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

Allure is the first novel in the Brooklet Dreams series by C.A. Harms and is told in dual point of views. I adored this new adult novel and can't wait to read more from this new to me author in the future!

Rhett and AJ's story is about learning to find love again and (in Rhett's case) learning to live again.

Rhett found love at a young age. A love that he thought was soul baring. A love he thought was a once in a lifetime type love. He saw forever in Harley's eyes until he found out Harley's family was moving from Georgia to Seattle, Washington. Distance didn't mean anything though. Rhett was willing to see this relationship through until the very end but sometimes life throws pebbles in your path and it forces you to take another journey down a different path.

AJ has watched Rhett from afar for years awaiting the day he finally notices her and makes his move. She knows the lasting affects his breakup with Harley has had on him so she's willing to wait him out until he's ready to fully move on. She longs for the day when she can finally call Rhett Jackson hers. Her fears are understandable in facing when that day comes will Rhett be all hers or will she have to share his heart with the ghosts from his past.

Rhett and AJ's story is one consisting of nothing but emotion and pure love.

One of my greatest weaknesses in reading romance is when a novel has that small town vibe and a strong family with strong values. Allure had all of that and so much more. The closeness of this family is something that should be praised and talked about. No matter what these people have each others back.

Another one of my greatest reading weaknesses that literally has my heart erratically beating every damn time is the learning to live again vibe. Rhett is a man of many emotions considering he thought he would only ever love one girl in his lifetime. Then having that girl up and move states away and feeling that immediate loss after years of trying to go the long distance route and feeling the girl you fell in love with pull away. I don't blame this man for not wanting to find love again. This point is where Rhett will learn the greatest lesson he will ever learn in his life. He learns that there are different types of love that the heart takes in. What he felt for Harley was first love and an all consuming love that teenagers usually face. What he feels for AJ is something stronger its a type of love that is neverending with a life long sentencing. I found it interesting seeing the different types of love come to surface in this novel.

AJ was the chick I was rooting for from the start. She's the perfect match for Rhett, she helped him find his way back towards the light and back towards love. These two are absolutely perfect for each other. I had a moment where I thought C.A. Harms was going to pull some twist and turn type shit and pull a 'First Love Trumps All' maneuver. I was a mess of nerves! I kept throwing my kindle down in hopes that this author wouldn't turn my world upside down and inside out. I was an emotional mess.

Now for the reasoning behind why I dropped a star. I felt compassion towards Harley during this novel so to make her seem like a villain towards the end broke my heart in a not so good way. There were other ways around finding closure and an ultimate ending between Rhett and Harley. Taking the Villainous approach wouldn't have been my first pick or even my last pick. I am excited to see how this series of standalones continues on and where Harley is going to fit into the mix!

Overall, I can't control the smile that is still on my face since finishing this novel! I was consumed by this heartwarming story of finding love after heartbreak! I can't get over how perfect AJ and Rhett are! I adored everything about Allure from the smoldering sexy time scenes to the cutesy baseball scenes! This is a great read and one that I highly recommend to everyone searching for their next new adult read!

Rhett is everything and more.

Rhett’s story is everything I love about romance, and epitomises the written talents of CA Harms.

The first book of hers that I read was Forgiving Reed, and from there I was hooked. Now I’ve read Rhett’s story, who is Reed’s stepson, and the second generation of these gorgeous Southern men is looking to be just as loving and loyal in the most alpha of ways as their fathers were before them.

Rhett has had the best in role models from his step-father Reed, and he was totally broken when his first love, Harley, inseparable since they were 12, moved away with her family just before graduating high school. In starting college, he thought they would maintain their plans to attend the same one, only she didn’t, and it wasn’t until his last year in College, that he finally decided to notice the beautiful and energetic AJ, who had always seemed to be around.

On her part, AJ noticed Rhett the first time she’d seen him play baseball during their first year at college. What she did know, however, was that he was still not over the loss of his long-time girlfriend, and even though her attraction to him was unrelenting, she didn’t intend to be his rebound relationship.

What she didn’t know was, that Rhett had noticed her also, and in spending time with her, he realised just how much more there was to her than he’d ever realised. Just as Harley herself, realised how much she’d been missing Rhett, and came back to Brooklet to tell him.

I loved everything about this book. From the hurt that Rhett suffered in losing Harley as a teenager, through the self depreciating humour that the characters have, right to the intense chemistry between Rhett and AJ. The ‘feels’ are there at every stage. It was also great hearing from Reed, Gavin and Colt, our original book boyfriends, and seeing that they’re still as much in love with their women as ever. 5 Stars.

Rhett has loved Harley since he was 12 years old and from that moment on she was it for him. They had planned their futures together which included going to the same college until she didn’t. Undeterred he focused on strengthening their long distance relationship until he realized that she had moved on and as painful as it was he need to as well.

AJ had feelings for Rhett from the moment they met however it was clear to everyone that he was still in love with his high school sweetheart. Rhett is all she wants so she is willing to be his friend until he is ready to move on and although it takes three years when it finally happens she believes her dreams have come true. When Rhett’s past re-enters his life will he be able to convince AJ that she is who he wants, or will she let her doubts destroy what they could have together?

You can’t help but love these characters as once Rhett loves it is deep, enduring and knows no bounds while AJ knew she wanted Rhett and was prepared to wait until he finally realized that they were meant to be. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Absolutely amazing!!!!
Rhett and AJ are such a great couple.
There are so many tings about their story I really loved. I think I rally loved the friend zoned. I have to say Rhett really made me mad at first. Cause he couldn't or wouldn't see what was right in front of him. But he's a man.
AJ was really great, I get those walls she had up. You see a guy, your not sure about having a shot at him cause he's not sure how he really feels cause he's a guy!
But that first kiss really did set off fireworks in side both of them..
There's many reasons why I love southern men. They are truly the definition of a gentleman

4 out of 5 stars

This book is the first ina new series that is based on the children of one of my favorite series’ from CA Harms. Rhett and AJ start the series just right and I so can’t wait to read the rest -- but Mikey definitely has a soft spot in my heart already!!!

Rhett is almost finished with college and on his way to starting his life - the only problem is that he’s hung up on his first love who left years ago and hasn’t looked back since. His friends convince him to give AJ a chance and it’s amazing the connection he feels with her.

AJ has watched Rhett from afar for years and dreamed of the chance to be with him, but she’s all too aware of his history and doesn't want her heart broken, but takes the chance and goes out with him. Their connection is instant and their emotions are quick to feel everything for each other.

The fact that Rhett’s ex shows up wasn’t unexpected, but I’m not sure it played out quite how I expected and it felt a little rushed to be honest. BUT overall, I loved this story and the characters and think that Ms. Harms does a great job of bringing the story to life!

I liked this book, it was sweet. Rhett was great. AJ was awesome too.

*spoilers*
What I found odd is that the blurb doesn’t really fit with what happens in the book. I thought Harley would be a much bigger part, instead she shows up right at the end and everything is resolved really quickly with no fuss. I spent most of the book wondering when she was going to show up and then for it to happen as it did was a bit disappointing.
I also didn’t like her character, I felt like she was purposefully that way so that we would dislike her.
I thought this book was going to be a full-on love triangle but it wasn’t which was disappointing.
I also felt for most of the book, while waiting for Harley to show up, it was a bit boring. Yes it’s sweet how Rhett is but there’s only so much of that you can take before it gets repetitive. I did like the sides to AJ though.

Overall, I liked this book. It was a nice, sweet read, if not what I was expecting.

*Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

I thought this was a super short sweet story which shows that you should always believe in love. I am so happy Rhett gave love a second chance. Great read.

Rhett simetimes has to bring his girl back to focus, because she's just easily distracted, “babe…” Rhett stood up and the blanket fell from his waist. Of course, what’s the first thing I did? I looked at the semi-erect ***k bobbing around proudly, and he chuckled. “Eyes up here, darlin’.” AJ sometimes wonders about her man, “what do ya say we go dish out some of this ice cream and watch the game with your dad?” AJ lowered her hands and her forehead wrinkled up as she looked back at me. “What?” I shrugged. “I like that guy. He’s laid back and cool.” I grabbed her hand and yanked her up." I loved this book, I love seeing this generation and the original characters from the series and how they're doing.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS ********

I am not a fan of triangles or OW drama at all but for some unknown reason, I picked this one up because I was slightly curious and expecting to DNF right away.

In the beginning of the book, Hero seems to feel that he had this epic love for his ex - a childhood friend whom he met at 12 years old and then became lovers. They dated all though high school and they lost their virginity to each other. They were also best friends and had made plans to go to the same college and live HEA. Only the Ex GF ruins those plans by leaving with her family to relocate to Seattle and go to another college in CA. Hero is heartbroken and after 4 years of loving & waiting for her to come back to him, his friend shows him a picture of how the ex moved on with OM and he decides to start dating h who has crushed on him for months/years (? time frame not known). So after they start dating, he & h fall in love and ooops, wouldn't you know it? The ex decides she wants him back.

What I loved & hated about this plot is that in the beginning after reading about the H's feelings towards the ex, I thought I knew where the story would go and that the h in my mind would be his second choice. But surprisingly as I began to read on, a beautiful love story transpired between the H & h and I thought the author would make him realize that what he had with his childhood ex was more of a puppy love type of romance. I was so sure of that which is why I did not DNF immediately.... However, towards 90%-95%, the ex starts to contact him & come back into his life and that's when things started going downhill..

First, I have to give it to the author that instead of making him "conflicted" or some such nonsense, about his feelings when the ex came back, he stood steady in respect that he loved & wanted to be with heroine. That part I routed for him, BUT what ruined it for me is that the author then decides to screw it up for those of us which love a one-woman-man only type of romances by having Hero CONSTANTLY telling heroine & everyone else that the ex would always hold a place in his heart because she was "his first love & first everything". He said that she "taught him about love first" and he would always love her!

I don't know about anyone else but if the love of my life told me that he would always love his ex, you can bet your panties ladies that I would have given him the boot (shove more like it) and called it a day! In my fictional romances, I don't want that stupid writing. It is why I read romances because I want that "true love" & fairy tale storytelling!

If the author had not incorporated that part, it would have easily been a 5 star & most enjoyable read, but as it is, it left me with aggravation for wasting my time and confused by author because H's wish washy feelings was annoying. One minute he is saying that she is his first love, first everything and that he thought he would never love anyone as deep as her, then he get's angry at the ex for contacting him & showing up.

Why was he so angry if he no longer had any feelings for her or if he no longer wanted to be with her? Why DID he keep the pictures and not throw them away? That answer was too wish washy for me and his anger at the ex only told me that he was still not over her and never would be!

I also hated that the h crushed on him for so long and never made him work to get her to say yes to a date with him. She gave in way too quickly and then at the end, the fact that they were together for more then a year with a baby on the way & born and still not married? Why didn't he ask her to marry him as soon as he realized that she was his "it" and was having his baby?
Nope. That didn't work for me at all.....

I remember when I read "Forgiving Reed" and we met Kori and her little boy, Rhett (who's father had died, his name was Blake) and we also got to witness Reed, who may not be Rhett's biological father, but is in all the other ways that matter the most, fall in love all over again with Kori and love Rhett as he was his own son :)

Well, now we get to read Rhett's story and when I found out, I was squealing and jumping up and down, pumping my hands up in the air like a lunatic... I must admit that I probably looked like one since one of fur-babies tilted her head to the side and looked at me like I had finally lost my marbles, ha, ha ;)

Anyways, this means all the kids from the "Southern Boys Series", meaning Reed, Gavin and Colt's offspring will be getting their own stories, starting with Rhett, which is the second generation of these southern men ahem and the ladies too of course. Can't wait to see Rhett's sister, Grace get her own story because Rhett is so protective of her ;)

I'm so happy that we'll get their stories because we get to see all of the previous couples from "The Southern Boys Series" again and how they're now after so many years have passed, how united they all are still, especially now that their children are all grown-ups and have to go through challenges and obstacles and be lucky to have what they have and I'm glad that Rhett realized that Harley was his first love but AJ (Allison J) is his forever love <3

Rhett was hurt when his first girlfriend and first love left their small town. As the years passed after her departure and is informed by her that she's moved on and is currently seeing someone, of course he's hurt, and meanwhile during they're years separated, he's played the field, frequently and keeps Allison J aka AJ in the friend zone while she's in love with him and is understanding of his heartache and waits for her turn to be more for him and finally have a chance to be with him...
I got to be honest, AJ's character was great and I liked her determination, patience and devotion of her love for Rhett. I don't think I would be able to be friend zoned and see the guy I love with other girls... this one is strong and at the same time vulnerable; you'll see when you go ahead and read this book.

But, then something happens that opens Rhett's eyes to finally see what's always been in front of him (no spoiler) and what could potentially become... to love again.

Of course, Rhett's a guy, so it took him way too long to finally see the right girl for him, literally right in front of him but FINALLY HE DID! I was so happy :)

I was also happy when Rhett decided it was time to stake his claim on AJ and let every male know she was off limits; their friends and siblings had their hands in that. I loved how united all of them were, like Raven, who's AJ's older sister & Rhett and his sister, Grace. They both had strong bond with their siblings and I loved reading about that and witnessing it through the words :) <3 They also had great friends who also dipped their hands to push Rhett & AJ to FINALLY get together :)

I liked that these two took things slow in the start of their relationship. AJ was still hesitant but willing to be with Rhett, even if she still thought that maybe she was a sort of replacement of Harley for Rhett, but slowly, Rhett shows her that she means something to him and that he's definitely over Harley.

Of course, there are some obstacles to overcome, some misunderstandings, some mistakes made along (don't worry guys, it's nothing too serious and remember, there's definitely no cheating in this book), and some unwelcome surprises that show up and try to mess things up for Rhett and AJ but guys, remember that these southern men and ahem, ladies too, don't give up easily, especially if that person is "the one for him/her" and when AJ's insecurities rear their head and make question herself and their relationship, Rhett's going to do everything in his power to vanquish those fears and soothe her insecurities by showing that his love for her is everlasting and completely different from what he felt for Harley, which was young teenage first love and that doesn't compete to what he feels now for AJ, his forever love <3 and along the way as he does this, they both get a beautiful and unexpected surprise along the way too ;) <3

I loved the epilogue so much <3 It was beautiful, funny, emotional and most importantly, it was full of love and happiness with a united front of family and friends, there to see and surround with joy and love, Rhett, AJ and their newest addition to the Jackson family, Blake Reed <3
He was named after Rhett's two dads', his biological dad, Blake who died when Rhett's was very young to remember him but knows about him because Reed keeps his memory alive in his home. I loved that :) Reed is such an amazing man for keeping the memory of Blake, who was Kori's first husband alive for Rhett and Kori, because let's be honest, not many men would actually do what he did. The bundle of joy's middle name is Reed because he's Rhett's dad, even if they don't share the same DNA. Reed taught Rhett everything he knows. Taught him how to be a man, was a great dad to him and treated him the same as his biological daughter with Kori, Grace and showed him everything he would need to know in life, including when the woman for you is there and you give it your all to get her. Their bond was beautiful to witness and the name that Rhett and AJ gave their baby boy to honor these two men, one up in heaven watching proudly over them and one who's been through everything with Rhett and supports him and loves him family unconditionally <3 It gave this story, at least to me, a heartwarming feeling while reading the epilogue :)
