What educators are saying

Thankyou for such a helpful resource to assess speech sounds without using a formal assessment. The words and sound contexts were perfect and gave me a really good insight into the client's speech so that I could form goals and test their progress in therapy.
Thank you for making this resource. It saves time and energy during a busy season of screening. The pictures are bright and engaging. Thank you.

Description

Do you need a quick, easy-to-use, yet comprehensive, informal speech sound assessment?

Do you want an assessment that you can easily use in both in-person and teletherapy sessions?

Would it be helpful to have one assessment that can assess single words, CV/VC blends, and multisyllabic words?

Well, this Informal Speech Sound Assessment is a must-have resource in every Speech and Language Therapist's toolkit!

Tailor this assessment to suit your needs:

Using this Informal Speech Sound Assessment, you can informally assess all speech sounds in word-initial, medial, and final positions (where possible). You can also assess /s l r/ clusters/blends, CV/VC words, AND multisyllabic words.

This comprehensive assessment can be used flexibly and tailored to suit your needs - Choose to complete all of the assessment, or just screen a small selection of speech sounds or patterns.

This articulation screener contains three versions- there are full-page, half-page, and no print options. So you can choose the version which works best for you.

Suitable for assessing your whole caseload:

This Informal Speech Sound Assessment can be used with children of any age to informally assess for errors in their speech sound inventory.

It is suitable for children who have articulation or phonological difficulties. There is a detailed analysis form included also, which helps you to analyze speech sound errors in more detail.

And because this is an informal assessment, you can choose the sections to complete, rather than having to complete it all.

This resource is most suitable for use by a Speech and Language Pathologist/Therapist however it must not be used in place of a formal articulation assessment.

Contents/Format:

  • The child-friendly pictures are presented, three in a row, with a maximum of 3 pictures per page. The pages are simple, with few distractions, so that children focus on the stimuli rather than unrelated graphics.

  • The sounds are organized in order of general speech sound development, for ease of assessment. (i.e., for very young children, the sounds are grouped together, so you don't need to search through the full assessment).
There are sections for single words, CV/VC words, and multisyllabic words.

  • A scoring form is included; the words are in the same order as presented in the assessment. The pages are numbered, and there is a column on the scoring form, so you can easily find the sound you wish to test.
Please note, that the spellings of words on the scoring form are in US English.

  • There is also a detailed analysis form included, which enables you to analyze speech sound error patterns in more detail.

  • Details of speech sound norms and phonological processes are also included in this assessment.

  • The download is in a zip file. Three versions of the Informal Speech Sound Assessment are included:
The full-page option is no prep- it is ready to print and go! (laminate if desired) Or you could save it onto your tablet so that you only need to print the scoring form.
The half-page version is low prep- simply cut the pages in half and laminate if desired.
The no print option can be loaded onto a tablet computer and opened in a PDF program, it can be used straight away (although you need to remember to print the assessment form pages).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Leeya S said: "I use this resource for all new students to my caseload when I first meet them. Such a great way to fully understand their strengths and weaknesses without previous data."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cheyenne A said: "I love how I can whip it out in sessions on my iPad to assess my client's speech informally. It is also a game-changer for clients whose speech is not the primary concern, but you still want to gauge where they are at."
