BFP Workers Statement - May 3, 2021
Updated automatically every 5 minutes

To the Better Future Project Community & Board;

We, the workers at Better Future Project believe survivors and we believe in due process. Following Eli Gerzon’s statement where they recounted serious and troubling allegations concerning Craig Altemose, Executive Director and co-founder of Better Future Project, the Better Future Project staff (350 Mass, CREW, and Divest Ed) calls for Craig Altemose to step down from his current position until a complete fair investigation can be conducted. If facts support Gerzon’s assertions, Mr. Altemose should resign, indefinitely and post-haste.

With consent from Gerzon, the BFP staff demands a reopening of the investigation of the events implicating Craig Altemose. We demand a list of Board members involved in the initial case, the roles held, what the original investigation’s findings were, and what actions were taken thereafter. We want an external entity approved by current BFP staff to lead in reopening this investigation. We insist on the completion of these actions within a swift time frame, to be agreed upon by BFP workers and the board. This timeline is marked by the release of this statement.

This event is indicative of a larger pattern within the climate movement and does not exist in a vacuum. Non-profit climate movement spaces are often occupied and driven by those governed by money, asseture, white supremacy, and the heteropatriarchy.

We stand in solidarity with those who have been harmed by abusers in various forms. There are survivors on BFP’s staff, so we do not take these allegations lightly and will organize for justice. You may reach us on Twitter at @BFPWorkers, and email at bfpworkers@gmail.com.

In Solidarity,

Workers from BFP
