Story

Boris arrived at Dogs Trust Loughborough a few weeks ago and all the staff instantly fell in love with him!

He has a really loveable character, and enjoys a fuss - we soon noticed that something was not quite right - as he walked with an abnormal gait.

Boris is such a gentle giant, he let the vets and vet students check the range of movement in his joints to diagnose the problems he was suffering with. After x-rays and tests he was diagnosed with multi-limb and multi-joint diseases, including severe hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis in his right hind limb (severe arthritic changes), concluding he needs very severe remodelling of his hip joint. He has cruciate ligament damage in his left hind knee (stifle) joint, as well as degenerative joint disease in both elbow joints!

To help Boris feel more comfortable and improve his quality of life he will need a complex operation... a total hip replacement in his right hind leg!

Costing Dogs Trust a considerable amount of money, this is where we need your help!

In the long term, Boris may also need another operation called a Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) to help the cruciate ligament damage in his left knee.

These are both big operations, so the decision was made to find a home for Boris - where he would feel settled during his recovery from the operations he needed. He has also started weekly hydrotherapy and physiotherapy with our Veterinary Physiotherapist, Claire! Boris will be having regular physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions pre and post surgery to help build his muscle mass and aid rehabilitation, increasing the chance of success post operation.

He has been with his new owners for two weeks and is settling and bonding with them very well. Being such an active minded and bright boy - he is picking training up very quickly. He is often found snoozing away on the rug in front of the fire with all legs in the air... probably dreaming about his pain-free future walks!
