This desert modernist retreat hunkers down in California’s largest state park

Breezy interiors have been given a refresh

Guests can soak up the desert heat at this midcentury home in Borrego Springs, located in the middle of the vast Californian national park.

The midcentury modern home has been refurbished with design and nature enthusiasts in mind: period features include a fieldstone fireplace while rooms are furnished with design pieces and every room has views of the mountains. Meanwhile, pale wood walls, sandy stone furnishes and polished concrete floors are offset by small flashes of print and pattern.

There’s enough room for nine people at the Californian holiday home – available via Vrbo from $206 per night. Other amenities include a swimming pool, palm tree-dotted garden and on a night, there’s a stone-edged firepit for toasting marshmallows while watching the sunset over the mountains.
