Update 10 - 13 June 2019

Thank you to all our whānau who braved the stormy weather on Wednesday last week and came to the Learner-Led Conferences. It is such a special time of the year.

The Learner Led Conferences (LLCs) provide an authentic opportunity for children to take ownership and responsibility to showcase what they are learning, share how they are going and what their next learning steps are. It was delightful to walk through the School on Wednesday and observe the increase in learner agency through the early to more senior year levels. It was great to have such fabulous community engagement and attendance at the LLCs.

We would also like to thank all of our community members who voted in the recent Board of Trustees elections. We had over 200 voting papers returned to the office alone and these will be added to all the postal votes that our returning officer received, this shows genuine and healthy participation. It is reassuring to know our Board of Trustees, who represent the voice of the community was drawn from an excellent pool of candidates and that you all chose the new members.

Votes are counted on Thursday 13th June. The new board will be announced and take office on Friday, 14th June.

Our exiting Board was a fantastic group of trustees and we are sure our new Board will move forward, standing on the shoulders of giants, and continue to guide our school towards continued heights of excellence.

Where: Outside Hub 10 and 12

Hub 5 Market Day

When: Thursday 27th June @ Lunchtime

Where: Outside Hub 5

This term, the learners in Hub 10,12 and Hub 5 have been working hard during ‘ET’ (Exploring Through) producing items and activities to sell at their Market Days.

They hope to raise money for hub activities while increasing awareness of financial literacy by extending their knowledge of income, expenses, and budgeting.

This will be a chance for all learners to buy products and enjoy what is on offer.

We would greatly appreciate your support in allowing your child to bring in a small amount of money to spend on the above dates.

Sport

** Reminder ** Stonefields School World Cup Day

The World Cup Sports Day will take place on Friday 14th June. This is a whole school event.

Learners have been placed in a team for the day. Learners are encouraged to wear their team colours, this includes the colours of the nation's flag. This is not intended to cause additional stress, socks or a ribbon will do. Please do not go out and buy anything specifically for this event. Learners have been advised by their Hub teachers what team (country) they are "representing" There is also a list in each Hub if you would like to check what country your child has been placed in.

Lots of activities will be physical and take place outside so learners should dress appropriately - trainers, jumper and a rain jacket.

You are more than welcome to come and watch this exciting event take place. The timings for the day have changed to accommodate other Hub activities and the junior assembly (which will still be going ahead)

Please visit the sports website for information regarding the timings.

Should the event be cancelled due to the weather, this will be communicated via the School app as early as possible on Friday morning. If cancelled, there are no further "save date"

For those learners that have music lessons on a Friday with Lewis Eady, these will go ahead as normal.

Senior Cross Country

Who: Year 4 - 8

When: Friday 28th June 2019

Time: 9:00am - 12:30pm

Dress: Sport / casual gear (comfortable clothes to run in)

What to Bring: Water, Healthy Snack, Jumper and wear trainers.

All learners will be walking from school to Colin Maiden Park. In order for this to happen, we require your permission. Please complete this form by Wednesday 26th June.

Our learners are helping to redesign this year's Cross Country in response to our student voice. All of our learners will still have the opportunity to compete, experience challenge and have their talents recognised. However, our aim is to provide an experience that meets the needs of all of our learners, not just a few. If our ultimate goal is for every learner to develop the skills and confidence to be physically active for life then our approach to Physical Education and Sports needs to reflect this. The research over recent years has been conclusive and Sport New Zealand are actively encouraging schools to move away from the traditional one race for all approach to Cross Country.

More event details will be available on the sports website from Thursday 20th June.

Should the event be postponed due to the weather, this will be communicated via the School app as early as possible on Friday morning. The "save date" for this event is Friday, 5th July.
