What educators are saying

My students loved this project that I used in Creative Writing! So many different options for how to present.
I used this resource with a mixed 1st - 3rd GT class and they loved creating their own holiday. Each student created an original project and used the rubric to guide their work. Parents loved the creative ideas that were displayed at open house.

Description

I created this resource as a way to meet several needs in my classroom. I wanted to:

→help students reflect and deepen their understanding of why we celebrate special days in our lives

→provide an outlet for student creativity both in thinking and with presenting their ideas

→supply an inclusive activity that ALL of my students would be able to work on, at any point in the year

→allow students the opportunity to have FUN while activating critical thinking skills

Engaging in a project like this really helped focus the children and channel their pre-holiday excitement without excluding anyone. I hope you’ll find it useful! There are EIGHT different product options, so differentiation is SUPER easy with this fun resource!

If these things sound like something you’re searching for, be sure to check out the preview for a closer look.

Directions for implementing the activity with your whole class OR small groups

Directions for implementing with an individual student as an independent study assignment

A page for students to illustrate and name their holiday

A Holiday Pennant to use for creating a visual display of holidays

An organizer to help them think through the planning of the holiday

Two rubrics—one for students to use in evaluating their peers’ projects, and one for your to use in evaluating their work as well.

The duration depends on the options you choose within the project, could range from 1-2 class periods to 1-2 weeks
