Description

What can TK and Kindergarten students do for Mother's Day? We have the answer! This week's lesson plan theme is MOTHER'S DAY and FLOWERS! Plus, we are learning about addition, patterns, writing the letters A-Z, and letter identification fluency with the letters M, N, O, and P, both upper and lower case mixed. We are also learning about rhombi, and of course, reviewing the alphabet and the numbers. In short, here you will find all of the work for one week of TK for both Math and Language Arts subjects, including one craft per day, which is great for following directions and fine motor skills. Check out more about this packet on my blog!

  • These lesson plans could also work well for Kindergarten if you work at a lower-performing school, with a few modifications depending on what is expected in your location. Heidi's district required TK students to learn sight words, write the alphabet and even simple sentences, write the numbers, and do simple addition. Therefore, these are high expectations for Transitional Kindergartners!

  • This product would also be great for printable sub-plans or independent study packets.

  • This packet was originally created for transitional kindergartners who were four years old when school started in August but turned five by December 2. So, keep that in mind when planning for your own students!

  • NOTE: This product was originally designed for Distance Learning, so there are some instructions for parents on some items. This should not affect the use of these lesson plans for in-person learning. Heidi used these lesson plans successfully for in-person, remote instruction, and simultaneous concurrent instruction.

This week focuses on:

  • Reviewing Letters A-Z, lowercase
  • Reviewing Numbers 0-20
  • Letter fluency practice for letters M, N, O, P mix capital & lowercase
  • Tulip Alphabet Writing A-Z, lowercase
  • Number Fluency Chart: 0-20
  • Rhombus Maze page
  • Flower Addition with pennies activity
  • "Flowers!" Easy Reader
  • Sentence Writing practice with the word "and"
  • Sight Word review worksheets for the word "and"
  • Rhyming Flowers worksheet*

Hands-on activities include:

  • Sunflower craft
  • Play Dough number worksheet & activity*
  • Flower and Bee, and "I Love You" Optical Illusion Spinners craft
  • Flower Sorting cut & glue
  • Mother's Day Card - Guided Drawing
  • Flower Petal Addition craft with dice
  • Flower Patterns* - cut & glue

Directions & some templates for art projects are included, along with photos of each completed project.

Please note that in addition to the activities included, it is assumed that the teacher would be reviewing basic concepts DAILY (or several times per week), including the letters, sounds, numbers, words, etc. Some of the most valuable resources I use daily are our Letter of the Week via Google Slides and Number of the Day via Google Slides. We also have hard copy versions here: Letter of the Week, Number of the Day/Week, Shape of the Week.

In my (Heidi’s) experiences, children in TK generally need much more time to learn and even more developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities than are necessary for most children in Kindergarten. Check out our HeidiSongs internet video site for more videos and songs to help kids learn their letters, shapes, numbers, and more, and follow along with the Monthly Kindergarten Pacing Guide collections. However, a subscription to our internet video streaming site is not included.

I highly recommend that buyers take a look at my Parent Guide Posters that explain how to teach a child to hold a pencil, use scissors, glue, glue stick, write names, etc. They are fully editable so that you can change the language used to cue children with your own directions. These are NOT INCLUDED in this packet because they would have driven the price up dramatically, and not everyone may want to use both those posters and these lesson plans. However, I will be sending them home with my students along with this packet.
