Panelist will discuss the limits of the Protection from Abuse Law and associated court guidelines and protocols. The program will help our law enforcement personnel understand what happens at a PFA proceeding. The parameters of the law will be examined and explained (who is subject to protection and under what circumstances, how the PFA Orders should be enforced, how do weapons get handled and other valuable information).
The presentation will also offer practical, detailed information to the public concerning how PFA hearings are conducted, and on what grounds may the proceedings be postponed or withdrawn. What special concerns are raised and handled where minors are involved. The improper use of PFAs, how the PFA case must be proven and what relief is available will also be addressed.
