Alex Russell scored a magnificent goal in one of Cheltenham Town's best ever wins on March 11, 2008.

He curled in the second in a 2-1 League One victory at Leeds United's Elland Road after David Bird had opened the scoring in the first half.

Anthony Elding pulled one back for Leeds in the 85th minute, but before then Steve Brooker had missed a clear chance to make it 3-0 and Keith Downing's Robins were deserving winners in front of 20,257 fans.

A decade on and midfielder Russell is playing again, despite initially hanging up his boots in 2013 at the age of 40.

Now 44, he is still turning out for Clevedon Town in the Western League Premier Division.

The Seasiders are managed by former Robins left-back Mickey Bell and they lie ninth in the table.

Russell also plays for the England Seniors team, who have won the last two Seniors World Cups in Thailand and will defend their title this summer.

Formerly with Rochdale and Torquay United, Russell joined Cheltenham on loan in January 2008 and helped them escape relegation with a final day victory over Doncaster Rovers.

He was one of three loan signings from Bristol City along with Brooker and Richard Keogh and all three played a major part in keeping Cheltenham up.

Russell signed a permanent deal at Whaddon Road the following summer before spells at Exeter City, Bath City and Yeovil Town.

He has also worked as assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers.
