Was that all about the three points?

Sometimes you have to grind a result out. I said last Thursday at a press conference that we needed to do that a little bit better. Sometimes can we nick a draw when we’ve not been great, or can we pinch a win and I think we probably did pinch the win today. I don’t think we were great, but we’ve been brilliant this season, Crawley away, and lost. There’s very fine margins in this league and sometimes they are won on one moment or two moments in a game. We didn’t really get going today, or pass the ball. We were a little bit edgy on a difficult night, wet and windy and it was a good three points.

How pleased are you with a clean sheet?

Again, resilience, mentality, something we've mentioned to the players is that every time we play at home we have to score two goals to win a game. You can't always score two, so it was an edgy, bottom of the table game, with both teams knowing how important it was. They came with a bit of freedom, it almost looked like, with nothing else to lose. Our lads looked like they had everything to lose. But a clean sheet, people getting cut at the end after sticking their head in, getting blocks in towards the end. That's what you have to do. There are many facets to a game and you can't always play good, expansive football. If it was one dimensional, a) it'd be boring and b) it'd be easy and it's neither of those things.

Luke Varney has scored in his last four home games, has he been doing anything different?

No, we've been getting him more chances, I think. Varns is confident and in a rich vein of form. He's doing everything we hoped he would when we brought him in. You can't ask for a better person or a better professional. He deserves every bit of credit for the goals that he gets because he's been first class since he's come in.

What was your view on the red card?

I thought it was a stonewall red card. He didn't win the ball, I've seen it back, and he's taken off in a scissor action from about four yards away. I know Darren (Way) will probably argue it, but I genuinely, hand on heart, if it was given against my player and I saw that back I'd have no qualms with that.

Alex Addai had to go off injured, what's the latest on him?

He felt his hamstring doing a backheel motion, so that's generally the sort of mechanics when that happens. It obviously wasn't right as he had to come off, so it's disappointing, but Rakish (Bingham) came on and showed what he is about, running in behind and looking a threat two or three times.

Pleased with him?

Yes, it's difficult getting thrown in like that. It would have been nice if he'd taken his chance, but it was on his wrong side. He was a constant threat, on the shoulder all the time and there were a couple of close offsides when the ball didn't quite fall for him. Hopefully he can add to what we've got.

How did you think Jordan Tillson did?

I thought Jordan grew into the game. It probably didn't help him that everyone else was so edgy. Towards the end when we were digging out you can see why we brought him in.  His front screening the centre forward, he's good at sensing danger and calming things down. It's difficult to come into a new environment and hit the ground running, so I was pleased with Jordan.

You've been clear it's about the number of points you get, what's the target?

Well if we get 60 we won't get relegated! No, I think 52 is generally the consensus. It used to be 50, but Peterborough got relegated a few years ago from the Championship on 52 so it would be harsh to go down on that, so it's just another three points towards that total. Saturday (at Colchester) is just as important for us because we can get another three points. It's trying to tie that mentality, that grit and that resilience in with the good play we've got now and trying to knit the two together.

You have now played two of your 'cup finals' and in different styles you've come through and won them both

Like I said, not every game is the same. The two teams got red cards in the first half, which doesn't happen very often. The first time we came across it (against Macclesfield) we dealt with it very well. Yeovil dealt with the 10 men very well to be fair. Credit to them as they were quite brave and kept their front three. We couldn't seem to pass it through the middle of them with four against two, which is what we should have done. I can talk about all sorts of things we've done in games, but people will pick up the paper tomorrow and see a 1-0 win. Another three points on the tally and that's the most pleasing thing about today. There is no point me trying to dress it up and say we were good. We weren't very good today, but we won.

What was the thinking behind the half-time chance, replacing Jordon Forster with Kevin Dawson?

They kept their front three quite high, so we thought we'd play four against three, and could we play four against two in the middle of the pitch. That was the thinking and then out of possession fan out into more of a 4-4-2. I thought we caused them more problems second half and their keeper has made two or three good saves. For all their gumption and 'up and at em', I can't remember Scott (Flinders) making a save and the two offside goals were offside. If you take the emotion out of everything, was it the right decision? Yes. I am pleased that we have won the game.

Darren Way felt Tom James was wound up because his free-kick had been disallowed

I am not going to get involved about what he says about his players. He's disappointed, I understand that. All I can say is I thought it was a red card and the two offside goals were offside, in fact I know they were.

It was another cracking goal from Luke Varney

I have not seen it back yet as you demanded I came out straight away so I didn't have time! I am not sure if he's toed it in, or if it's a good strike. He hit another one just after that was a good strike and Rakish has got in two or three times. Varns is what he is, you don't play to the age of 36 or 37 and not be a good pro. His enthusiasm for the game puts some young lads to shame. He comes in and just wants to play football. He's definitely not doing it for the money anymore. He's earned good money in his career and I don't think it's because he's gambled it away or spent it, he just loves football. It's a drug and when you get to the end of your career that's why you are doing it. He is a credit to himself.

When Ben Tozer went down it looked like it could be another serious one, how is he after a bang to the head?

He's up and about and I am not sure there's much in there anyway!

And Jordon Forster coming off at half-time?

That was a purely tactical decision. It's different parts of the game. Conor Thomas came off last week and it's not about the individual, it's about the team winning. Ultimately the team won so we all win. They took it the right way and there were no tantrums because the team has won so we've all won. That's pleasing from my point of view because you don't want people sulking about being taken off as it's not about you, him, me or anyone else, it's about whether the team wins or not and that's the most important thing.
