Early Childhood Ireland National Annual Awards & Gala Dinner 2020
Our National Annual Awards celebrate and showcase our members’ ambition and commitment to continuously improve the quality of their practice and their services to children and their families. The awards programme and awards night provide an opportunity for settings to highlight some inspiring examples of their work.

Applications for our 2020 awards are now open. We have a total of eight awards, with five new categories added this year:
  1. Learning Story of the Year (Written to a child) NEW!
  2. Emergent Curriculum in Action Learning Story of the Year (Written about a group of children) NEW!
  3. Best Learning Story from ‘Newcomer’ setting (individual child or group) NEW!
  4. Inspired Practice Award
  5. Partnership with Families Innovation Award
  6. LINC Award for Leadership in Inclusion
  7. Pedagogical Leader Award NEW!
  8. First 5 Award for Transitions for Children NEW!

BA in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning
In partnership with Early Childhood Ireland, Maynooth University offers a Level 8 honours Early Childhood degree. It is delivered in a flexible format over 3 years – students attend for one evening per week and one Saturday per month, along with two block weeks, one in Autumn (October) and one in Spring (February or March). There is also a requirement to complete 300 hours of placement (which can be located in a student’s workplace) as well as 15 hours in an alternative setting.

There are a small number of places remaining on the programme for September 2020. The CAO deadline for the BA is 1 February 2020 at 5.15pm.

Valchild – Validation of non-formal and informal learning in child minding
Early Childhood Ireland is delighted to be involved in a Leargas funded European project called VALCHILD.

The VALCHILD project aims to increase the quality, supply and accessibility of vocational education and training for childminders, providing guidance and resources for personalised learning pathways.

Regional Member Meetings
Early Childhood Ireland is meeting members regionally to set out our key objectives for 2020 in terms of advocating, representing and supporting our members. 

We see these meetings as an opportunity to meet, share and consult with our members around the important current issues affecting their services including Capital Funding, ECCE Capitation, Part B of the Registration Process and Garda Vetting and the longer term requirements relating to achieving the 1% of GDP investment in childcare and the establishment of a Single Early years Agency.
