This copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

"There had been happiness here, but now all she could feel was the joy someone had taken in destroying it."

If you've been following my reviews for awhile, you'll know that this series is like my guilty pleasure. I adore Helena, Von, Ronan and the rest of the Circle and other supporting characters and am always looking to read more of their story. This installment did not disappoint!

Crown of Embers follows Kiri Helena and her Circle as they rally to find allies in the battle against Rowena and her Shadows. What I loved the most about this book was the chance to see more of Elysia as the characters travelled. We meet enemies and allies alike, both willing and reluctant and Helena must decide who is worthy of her trust. I especially enjoyed the Night Stalkers and am looking forward to learning more about the new character Reyna in the next book.

All of that said, if you've read the first two books in the series, you'll know that each ended with pretty hefty cliffhangers (this one - not so much ... *whew*). Well, let me assure you - within just the first few paragraphs, WE FIND OUT WHAT IS IN THE BOX (*glory glory hallelujah*). Thank goodness for that because I was so distraught at the end of the last book! I just needed to know!

"Let their blood bring new life. One for every one lost ... "

One of the biggest plot points to Crown of Embers is Helena learning to handle unsurmountable loss, control her staggering power and strengthen the bond between her and Von now that they are reunited. With all of their plotting and planning, Helena is constantly on the go, without much time for herself, her Mate or the Circle and she must find ways to manage her duty and still live her life. Because there is so must strategizing in this book, the story did slow down in pace at times but never once did my interest wane.

Also - Ronan. SO MUCH YES. He has come to be my favorite in this series (I'm certain I do not stand alone) and I just want him to find the happiness he deserves.

As the ending neared, the atmosphere of the story grew more ominous and I just KNEW something was brewing on the horizon and oh boy did it! My lips are sealed other than to warn you to keep your pearls and Kleenex close. You may need them! (I AM STILL NOT OVER IT)

Overall, another fun installment of The Chosen by Meg Anne. I truly love this series, its characters and world. The next book cannot come soon enough!

So, after reading three books in the series.. I FINALLY realised the problem. The problem is that the way every book in this series is written is the same. Allow me to elaborate.....

Every book starts with a tiny bang, which somehow captures my attention. Then suddenly in the middle something major happens and I go 'Woaahhh'.. and the book has officially snagged my undivided attention. Great!. But after a chapter or so of power packed stuff the book gradually loses its spark.

I was particularly excited for this book after reading its synopsis, unfortunately true to its trend the ending was a let down. The worst part is that before the ending something cataclysmic happens and in just two or three sentences that entire hype is brought down.

That being said, this is not a bad series to read, but honestly this is more of a 'trying to finish your reading goal' kind of a series.

added after my first re-read

I can't believe this book made me cry again... I knew what was coming and was still reduced to tears... that's just good writing :) for more of my thoughts and feelings about this gem just keep reading to find my original review, cause I am going straight into the big finale :) I was lucky enough to get an eARC on my kindle :)

original review:

I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book :) this is the third installment in a truly amazing fantasy series, that revolves around the same group of characters, so you definitely have to read them in order... otherwise you will be lost, trust me on that :) but since I want to write this review in a way that all of you can read at least part of it, here's what we're gonna do :) in the next paragraph I will talk about the world and the main characters without any spoilers whatsoever, so it will be safe to read even if you are not familiar with this series yet, and then the third and last paragraph will be centered around this specific installment, which means I will talk about people and events without additional explanations, possibly spoiling stuff from the first two books, because I assume that only people who read those two stories will continue on :) ok, now that we have this out of the way, let's dive into some more details :)

This is a fantasy series, which for me means that we have a world filled with magic, different races / creatures, unique abilities and all that jazz :) it's definitely one of my favourite genres to read, because I adore getting lost in different worlds... this one was no excpetion... and the further we get into the stories, the more we learn about it... which only opens so many possibilities for future stories... :) the more I know, the more curious I am to learn even more :) I am not gonna get into any additional details, because it's much better explained in the actual books, plus, we don't get all of the informations at once... we get those explanations over time, which definitely helps to remember everything better :) *The chosen* is the name of the series, and also the name of one of the races in the books... they can wield magic, all different kinds of it :) Helena, our main character, discovers very early on in the first book, that she's one of the most powerful of them that was ever born... she was raised far away from the palace and the corruption within those walls, but now's the time to go back, reclaim her powers and save her people :) she will have to complete her Circle of five men who will be her protectors and advisors, including the one who will be her Mate... and that's just the beginning... it's an absolutely amazing series, with complex characters, many surprising twists and turns and phenomenal writing style that will grab you from the very first chapter, make you turn page after page, because you need to see how it ends, and then leave you wanting more when you read those little *the end* words at the end ;) I highly recommend you guys to give it a try if you haven't yet, the first book is called "Mother of shadows" :) ok, now that we have this out of the way, let me share a bit more about the actual subject of this review :)

LAST WARNING people :) spoilers about the first two books will come next... *looks around* ok, I assume that all of you who stayed are up to speed :) don't be mad at me if you haven't read those previous books and will be spoiled about something important, I couldn't have been more clear about upcoming spoilers... ;) moving on :) so after the mother of all cliffhangers at the end of that second book... #WhatWasInTheBox ;) we jump right back into that scene... obviously, I won't say what was it, but it definitely starts something... *more* is definitely a theme in this installment... we get to know more about the characters we already know... and fall in love with them even more... *coughs* Ronan *coughs* ;) we see new places, meet new people... I swear, Meg has an incredible imagination and I just want more and more of this colorful and complex world she created... every other chapter I was like *oh, I'd love to know more about this place / these people* :) I was never bored, that's for sure ;) Helena grows more confident and stronger, even though there are still some lingering effects of the separation from her Mate... after all, she only just got him back after that kidnapping... I adore her connection to the men in her Circle... how she listens to them, but still makes her own decisions... how playful their banter can be... and how necessary that is when during so much of her time she needs to be in control and setting the best example... the stakes are getting higher and higher, with Rowena now determined more than ever to defeat her... I swear you guys, these books just keep getting better and better :) the writing style is amazing as always... building up the world and characters we know, introducing us to new people and places, each of them could be the center of another novel... :) the story flows effortlessly, and before I knew what was happening, I finished the book... now we wait for the fourth and last installment in this original series... but worry not, I'm hearing there is a sequel / companion series in the works for later *squeels with excitement* ;) I laughed, sighed with delight, gasped in surprise and cried during this story... Meg has the abilty to hit me in all the feels... and those are the best kind of stories... :) and now I am dying to get my hands on that fourth installment... I need more!!! :) but I'm greedy like that when it comes to such fantastic books... :)

XOXO

Kiri Helena is a badass. And I want a Talyrian.
After that evil cliffhanger I couldn't wait to know what would happen, the wait was worthwhile.
A war is coming, and the Circle must look for unlikely allies. Rowena is not giving up, she is relentless in her dark purpose. So our heroes have a long and hard journey ahead of them.
There's heartbreak, new friendships, new badass characters and a lot of fire between Von And Helena. A must read.

I just can't. It's probably a good book. I know I enjoyed the first. I just felt that this series is kind of a huge rip off of C.L. Wilson's The Tairen Soul series. Maybe Meg Anne is a really big fan, and that's cool. I can totally relate. But there are sooooo many similarities to The Tairen Soul Series that I. Just. Can't.

The magic system, the soulmate bond and how it is formed (even though this isn't exactly a unique concept), and even some of Von's lines and character traits are similar to Rainier Tairen Soul's. The main character has a "Circle" that consists of 5 male defenders. Then another honorary member gets added on later. This directly parallels Elysetta Barristoni's Quintet and the late arrival of another legendary fae that swears fealty to her. And there is literally a giant winged cat. A Tairen, just called something else.

This is like a stolen recipe from an awesome series, only tweeked to look as though it's original. I'm sure that someone will enjoy it. That's just not me.

Once again this series has blown me away with just HOW GOOD IT IS. It's what I believe is referred to as "New Adult", given the language at times and sexual content but DAMNIT it's done so well and so much better than so many others given the same title. I'm shocked that this series isn't getting more attention, honestly.
In this installment we find Helena and her Circle searching for the fabled lost tribes, Talyrians, Stormbringers and more. We get to see a wider scope of the world that Meg has built and it's all done wonderfully. I was able to picture everything very clearly and it was beautiful. Getting to see both the main characters and the side characters develop was a treat, and at times absolutely heart breaking. (Seriously I did NOT see that coming at the end of the battle and I cried a bit!) I think what I love about Helena is how relatable she is. I especially love her bantering with her Circle and Von - the sarcastic kind of faux insults they're always flinging at one another provides some great levity to the general seriousness of their situations and always makes me smile. I love everything about this series and this installment further cemented that love. 5/5 stars for a fantastic continuation of the story.

Ahhhh, this is my least favourite book so far. Even more build up, no war. So cruel.

There's some battles here and there but the gang mostly travelled around the land recruiting whoever they could.

It was interesting to see more of the people who live in the world though, and we even got some backstory.

One issue I had is that the challenges didn't seem hard enough, everyone might as well have immediately agreed to help because we already knew what the outcome would be.

Meanwhile, some more Circle members seem to be finding love which is super cute. Ronan deserves it the most, I hope it's finalised in book four.

AND THEN THERE'S ANDERSON. AND DARRIN. WHY THOSE TWO? THE SWEETEST ONES?EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO CRY. Oh who am I kidding, I didn't stop crying.

I just love how I got one shock last night and another this morning. Pro tip: BE CAREFUL OF THE BEGINNING AND THE END (but not the very end, there's surprisingly no cliffhanger).

The map is back !!! I really need a physical copy of this series so I don't have to keep jumping back and forth every time the group travels to a new location just to see where it is on the map.

And the dedication was cute again. My furbaby approves.

ONE MORE BOOK TO GO. Ro-witch is going downdowndown.

Well now. I am trying to get my words together as I type which is probably not a good thing but this book just left me all fired up and ready to go!! Nope it isn't over yet so don't get comfortable cause it's on like donkey kong!! OK without giving any spoilers I will tell you this: They are cock blocked (wait til you see what blocks them) so the bond hasn't been completed. There's plenty of action so you don't get a chance to breathe. There is loss, and new friends. Lines will be drawn and alliances will be made. There is betrayal from unlikely places. This author just keeps shaking things up. I thought, well who the heck cares what I thought the author would do because she has done so much more. From her debut novel she has taken us to a place undiscovered and yet when revealed is so much more than we could have imagined. And imagine we do as she opens our eyes to amazing possibilities, where new foes become friends.

I love the mind that can put together such a thrilling ride with characters that just burrow themselves deep in your heart. This author has done an amazing job of making you forget the outside world and into the realms of the Kiri and her Circle. It doesn't end here, but it will end and I will be there until the last ember dies or. . . .

Well in this book we get to find out what is in the box. It was not at all what I was expecting. (Yes you need to read the first two books before you read this one). This series just keeps bring more surprises and angst. There are moments in this book that will bring you to your knees. I loved that you got to know more of tribes as Helena sets out to find allies. You get to see their world and the book is so well written you will feel like you are there. As everyone prepares to go out against Rowena there is bloodshed, fighting, sorrow, and much angst. I couldn't stop reading but at times was scared to read on because of what was going to happen.

Great characters and a fictional setting that is surreal keeps this series going. This one doesn't end on a huge cliffhanger but with that being said you know that there is so much more to come. Will Helena, her circle, and her allies be victorious or defeated.

Crown of Embers is the third book Meg Anne’s The Chosen Series.
Helena is partially letting her grief power her actions, but this is because Rowena has made the next step in declaring war by hitting Helena with the murder of a loved one. Helena will do everything to take Gillian her mother Rowena, and their Army if Shadow’s down. It’s time for war and to bring the people together whilst also telling the, that the Corruptor has risen, along with the Vessel.
This dark fantasy romance has moments of grief, revenge and war, which you can see are building to the ultimate ending in book four.
Please note the trigger warnings in the blurb, I personally found these to be mild for dark fantasy.

If you’ve read the other two books in this series then you’ll know that at the end of the second book you was left on the cliff-hanger of what was in the box… After reading it myself I just wanted to know and was intrigued to find out as honestly Meg Anne could have put anything and either way it wouldn’t have been expected. She honestly has such a powerful mind so when it came to be revealed what was in the box I was honestly shocked as the direction Meg could have gone in was endless. There’s a lot that happens in this book and a lot of information to take in but honestly I think that Meg perfected everything she wrote. I’m just now excited to see what is going to happen in the next book as Meg has such a way with words. Seriously, if you haven’t read this series yet, you should go ahead and rectify that as you are seriously missing out.

Helena and her inner circle never expected to find what they did in the box they received from Rowena, but none the less, Helena wasn’t going to let her get away with much more and is determined to stop her once and for all. She goes on this quest to gain allies from all of the hidden tribes as she knows she’s gonna need an army, but whilst on her quest Rowena seems to be one step ahead of her. Will Helena be able to take Rowena down once and for all or are things set to get worse before she has chance to do anything.

Helena and Von are back together in the 3rd book of this series. From one to the next this takes on a journey to help Helena and her circle find the allies they need to defeat Rowena and her army. From one place to the next meeting different races and finding new friends. From one emotion to the next you won't be able to stop reading it. When one of them who be left standing to continue on with what's to come. I was laughing, crying I couldn't put it down. Amazing read that will rip your heart a little. Can not wait for next.

You will need tissues by the time you finish this book, so have them at the ready!

This series just keeps getting better and better! At the very begging of this story we finally learn what was in the box from the cliffhanger at the end of “Reign of Ash”. The opening and discovery of the contents of this box has sent Helena on the warpath and has vowed revenge on Rowena.

Kiri Helena and her Circle (Von, Darrin, Kragen, Joquil and TImmins) are more than determined to see Rowena and her army of Shadows destroyed. However, they need help and must ask for help from their allies in Elysia in order to complete this task. This will be no small task.

Helena’s responsibilities are numerous and seem to be taking a toll on her. Is she and her circle up for the challenge that Rowena has tossed her way? Along with preparing for battle, Helena and Von are still working on their bond, making it as strong as possible.

One of my favorite lines in this book is “No one is ever truly gone. Not so long as you remember the lessons they have taught you during your time together”. Grab the tissues…you will need them!

Bring on the next installment! I’m ready to see who wins the battle of all battles!

Holy Mother of Shadows!! There are not words to do this book justice! I thought I already loved this series as much as possible but this book proved that wrong. It sucks you in right along with the characters, you feel all of their triumphs, losses, pain, joy, love, and loyalty. The twists and turns will leave your head spinning. I will be absolutely beside myself waiting for more of this story!!

Carla'a Five Star Review

Kiri Helena Solene has been reunited with her mate, but that is just the beginning. Her nemesis, Rowena, has struck the first blow, and battle lines have been drawn.

Helena has her Circle, and her power continues to grow. However, her power won't be enough. She realizes that in order to stand a chance at defeating Rowena, she must seek out The Forsaken tribes and do everything in her power to enlist their help. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. The tribes that fall under the Forsaken name hate the Chosen for the way they have always treated them. After centuries of neglect, will the Forsaken agree to help them, and, if they don't agree, what will happen?

Rowena is out for blood. She will stop at nothing to assert her authority over Elysia and the Chosen. It's time for the Chosen, and all of the lost tribes to remember who and what they are.

Wow! What another great addition to this series! Once again, we read a story that is woven with magic and wonder. Through her words and use of vivid and descriptive imagery, this amazingly talented author transports the reader to many magical lands. I was completely drawn in, and I found myself a little sad when the book ended. The characters were very well developed, and because of this, I felt quite endeared to all of them-wellll maybe not Rowena. I wanted to send her far, far, away.

If you are looking for a book that will transport you to another place and time, this is the book/series for you!

Simply Phenomenal!

Yet again Meg Anne has transported us into a world of Magic and danger with this third installment of The Chosen Series. This is NOT a stand alone. You must have already read the first two books in the series to have the full reading experience.

Crown of Ember picks up right where we left off with the question we have all been asking since the end of book two, what's inside the box! Now that Helena and the Circle are not reunited you would think that they are stronger than ever, but we are all wrong. Rowena strikes a decisive blow at the heart of the kingdom in order to weaken Helena and her circle.

They must not travel seeking allies in the most unlikely of places in order for them all to combat this new threat to them all. The Forsaken tribes were stories of legend, but all legends hold some truth. and do everything in her power to enlist their help. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. Helena must not only fight for the lives of all in Elysian, but she also continues to fight an unforeseen enemy for the life of her mate.

Read this amazing story of triumph and heartbreak that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Wow...just wow! We finally get to know what was in the book and there was no way I would have guessed what it was! This just shows the talent that Meg has in writing her book! Her writing truely captivated the reader and captures their attention all the way through. In this book Helena has her husband back and I love these two together..they are truely power as a pair and were meant to be! Kiri also has her circle but she needs more to support her against Rowena. Rowena is purely evil and will stop st nothing to destroy Helena!
This is an exciting series that keeps me going back and reading over and over! I cannot wait to see what happens next! Highly recommended!!

With her Mate back and her bond beginning to strengthen again, it’s Helena’s priority to find allies before Rowena send her full forces to devour Helena’s land. This books centers around finding those allies whilst under constant threat of Rowena’s wrath.

There are some things that I want to talk about that DO include spoilers.

Now, one thing that I didn’t understand whilst reading this was how easy it was for Rowena. One of the attacks happens in the Palace. Since it’s a Palace where royalty lives, I’d assume there would be loads of guards there, however this is never mentioned. It’s one of those things that could be easily overlooked, but it stuck out in my mind as a little odd that the citizens place so much importance on Helena, but there are no other guards outside the Circle that are sworn to protect her?

Next, I want to move onto the characters. First up: Helena.

Now, I have absolutely no problem with strong female characters, but I feel like this one is edging on being a Mary Sue, feel free to disagree though. As a person who grew up with only 3 people around her, she seems well versed in strategising war, which doesn’t make sense considering her background. On top of that, something that didn’t really click with me in the last book, but I thought of during reading this one: Helena learned to fight incredibly fast. She managed to take down two people who have been fighting pretty much their entire lives when she has only been learning for a matter of months. Maybe it has something to do with the mating bond, but in real life, to be able to beat your master you’re looking at years of study, not months.

When it comes to Helena, I feel like nothing is a threat. It’s set up that she’s strong. Everyone thinks and says so. When it comes to the challenges that she faces throughout the book, I don’t feel like they’re much of a challenge.

The rest of the characters seem fine for who they are, but there’s one I have a problem with and it becomes apparent in this book: Timmins.

He’s supposed to be the advisor, but he knows shockingly little. It seems like he doesn’t really have much of a role because Helena never goes to him for anything. Whenever they’re having a meeting, his knowledge is rarely ever required, which makes me think, what’s the use in him being there? It seems like his role is supposed to be important but he never does anything. I think it could be said for all of her Circle, they don’t really do much in their roles besides fight.

Those are the notes that I made whilst I was reading. Much like the other books, they’re okay. The writing is still very simple and often lacks sensory descriptions, but it’s not a bad book. Three stars.

I have loved Helena, Von and their friends since book one but I especially love Helena and Von. If possible this new addition to their story has me loving them even more. The two just have so much love and devotion for each other. It’s apparent in everything they do. In the way they lend strength, give encouragement & support, their soothing touches and playful banter with one another. It’s both beautiful and touching in a story riddled with sadness and turmoil.

This part of Helena, Von and their friends journey is definitely challenging. They are forced to think outside the box to come up with a way to out smart and defeat Rowena, all while grieving the loss of those dearly loved. Their journey takes them into the unknown in hopes of making allies where one would least expect. With the threat of an impending attack looming and time quickly running out it’d be easy to lose oneself to despair and yet our hero’s stand strong.

“But even in the darkness, there is always the chance for light, for hope. We are that hope. It is our choices, the ones we are faced with every day, that will bring color into the world or leave it in darkness. I choose to bring light.”

-Helena

I loved Crown of Embers. Meg Anne has a very talented way with words. The different regions she created for Helena, Von and the Circle to travel to are amazing and beautiful. Her descriptions made it easy to visualize them and in my mind create a “movie” to go along with the story.
This is definitely a story worth reading!

This is the third book of the series and I can only use one word to describe it wow. You need to read the books in order to get the full effect of the amazing story and the characters. Helena manages to get back her mate after the kidnapping but before she can get her breathe, her worst enemy Rowena has delivered a box to her which is the cliff hanger at end of book 2. We find out what is in the box and Helena realises that her nemphis is one step ahead of her and she needs more power so must hunt for the forgotten tribes to help her. I love how we find out more about Helena and her circle of protectors and advisors and how she takes time to know them and listen to them but still makes her own decisions. The author meg Anne is brilliant in her writing and brings you right along with the characters and routing for them. I felt the emotions and before I knew it i needed a tissue which surprised me how involved I had gotten with the story line as I was saying no why. Highly recommend this series and can’t wait for the next one

Cry and rejoice......

Helena just got Von back when Rowena did the unthinkable. She murdered Anderson and sent his head to Helena as a gift. Darrin and Helena grieved thoroughly, while promising to kill that betraying phony. They seek out the Forgotten to ask them to join the fight. Miranda accompanied them on the journey. The Circle stands together, with Ronan an integral part of the team.

The find part of the Fallen and learn sometimes about on of the Circle. Darrin and Effie get close and Ronan gives up his liver to Niel. Nothing goes according to plan, when a spy creates havoc as the group separates. It's a sad day when one of the Circle is lost. Rowena will psy.

Read the continued story that has so captivated me. I cried when we lost a member of the Circle, and rejoiced when the bond between Helena and Von is finally completed.

I love this series. Read on my friends.

This book was a great addition to the series. You have a great ending to the last book with Helena getting a part of her circle back. But this book is sad. Yes, bust out the tissues for this ride. I did guess what was going to happen in the end of this book, it only made sense to predict but it didn’t take away from the magic of this book. You get to see Helena grow as a woman and see her power grow within her. She really is a strong character and is a force to be reckoned with. The world was beautifully descripted as the last two books. The world building being intense and amazing. You see it just like a movie. I really enjoyed all the characters including some new additions. I am excited to be moving onto the next and last book in the series. I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to see what happens.

The brilliant and imaginative world Meg Anne creates just keeps getting better and better.
I loved getting to travel all over Elysia with Kiri and her circle as they work to rally support before they go up against Rowena in battle.
Rowena continues to play her part as the corruptor and oppose Helena. I loathe that her goal was to break the circle through this whole book.
I loved getting to see more about the keepers and the prophecies, the people of the realms, especially Talyria. As they travel to each people group, we get to see more of the Kiri’s power and get to really know the different characters. I’m becoming more and more attached to each of them and I’m a little nervous to see what plays out in book 4!
If you love paranormal fantasy with steamy scenes, lots of adventure and a strong female lead, you will love the Chosen Series!

The third installment in The Chosen series from Meg Anne keeps up the spirit of action, determination, and love helping to conquer hate and fear. We also get to see Helena continue to grow into the leader that she needs to be, learn to trust her instincts, and learn to lean on others in a healthy way. Von is truly the mate she needs, and vice versa.

We get to journey a little bit further into the magical world that Meg Anne has created, and meet the lost tribes, and experience the toll that this magical war is taking not only on Helena and Von, but also her entire circle, and the broader population. In this one, Helena gets to see the effects on others, and she experiences some monumental losses. These are things that she will need to learn to navigate to be come powerful leader she is destined to be.

Can't wait for the conclusion of this story!

This it the third installment of Meg Ann's series in the Chosen series, I was not disappointed. Meg Ann has an incredible way with words and will drawn you in to her world form the very first chapter. I highly recommend reading the first two books first or you will be a bit lost (and of course missing out on some phenomenal writing). This book picks up where the Reign of Ash left off.....what is in the box? Now the Helena has her mate Von back, will she be able to make all right in their world? Or will Rowena finally reign? How will the war end? I don't want to give too much away as this book is filled with much drama, emotion, twists and turns. Meg Ann will take you on an poignant, moving journey. I loved it!! A MUST READ!!!

Okay, I'm officially into this series. Though I'm mainly sticking around for Ronan.

#JusticeForRonan

No way are these books allowed to fuck him up. He best get his happy ending or I shall riot ! ! !

At first it felt very filler-y. That this book was a lot of bridging to the main battle really. However we did get a bigger glimpse of the world and meeting new people.

I still think some of the characters surrounding Helena are underdeveloped, Kragen for example. And it is kind of full of cliches with dialogue and the little actions.

But I'm having fun. I'm enjoying the prophecy and how it's playing out. I'm loving the group dynamics and how they care so much for each other.

Really into now. Definitely seeing it to the end.
