Private Player started off in a really fun way. It was sweet, steamy, and predictable. If you're looking for an easy to read romance with some secrets and a bit of angst, I would recommend this. I loved Nathan's family dynamic, I only wish we would have gotten more of them. I liked this one, but I think it could have been so much better for me had we gotten more of them together at the end. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was perfection. Shane East does such an amazing job bringing Nathan to life, and Clare did a great job voicing Madison. If you're going to read this one, I can't recommend the audiobook enough!

READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

PRIVATE PLAYER was a bit of a mixed bag for me. While I thought both main characters were really likable I wish the author had taken the time to flesh out both characters and give them more time to establish a real bond. I felt like they met, fell in lust, spent a few days with the hero's (very likable) family and said "I love you." In those almost seven hours we had three extended open door bedroom scenes which was just too much for my taste. The writing got a little repetetive and contained Madison and Nathan thinking how much they wanted the other one. At the end of the book I thought that it was a cute story but nothing that'd stay with me for longer than my next audiobook.

Shane East is a pro and his narration is always on point. Clare Corbett is a new to me narrator but I have zero complaints. She did a fantastic job making Madison her own.

Yes! Louise Bay has written another amazingly, delightful steamy story! I had the opportunity to listen to an early audio review copy of Private Player, and it was super entertaining and delicious. Shane East and Clare Corbett narrate this audio.

Madison and Nathan have a steamy first encounter at a wedding. With an undeniable connection, these two decide to have a fun, no strings attached night. Nathan is facing some trouble, and is looking to clear his name. Madison as fate would have it, is assigned to write a profile on Nathan for the post. Madison gets to shadow Nathan for several weeks. When these two get together, all kinds of research takes place which may or may not be all article related....

Shane East and Clare Corbett did a fabulous job performing this audio. Their voices really complimented each other so well! Shane East was super hot in this book delivering several lines that I may or may not have bookmarked, so I could listen to again. Clare Corbett was a new to me narrator, and I really enjoyed her narration of Madison! I'm looking forward to hearing more from her.

I really enjoyed this audio and story from Louise Bay. I would say this book falls into the category of a semi work place romance, that starts with a steamy first encounter. I look forward to even more from Louise Bay!

Madison and Nathan meet at a mutual friend's wedding where she is having a wardrobe malfunction. Her clothes look even more tangled up all over the bedroom floor later that night when they indulge in a very sexy one night stand.

They had no idea they were going to come face to face again so soon when they met in a professional capacity later that week. Madison has been hired to write an article about him. Nathan has a reputation as a ‘player’ that he is trying to push into the background so he can project his more business minded image into the public eye.

Madison will be shadowing him to get to know the real Nathan, including meeting his wonderful family, attending business meetings and anywhere else Nathan takes her along to. The crazy connection they had when they first met is still there and neither of them seem to be able to resist the temptation of getting naked together.

While Madison works on his story she is mindful that she has been holding back a secret, one that she knows could destroy the trust they have. It just never seems to be the right time to tell him. Then there is the matter of the content of her article, what she has observed about him completely contradicts what he is trying to get across to his board members. She knows that she needs to be true to her journalistic passion and in doing so may be taking a big risk with not just Nathan but her own career.

This was a fun, low angst audio read for me. I loved the connection between these two and particularly loved Nathan’s family. Shane East and Clare Corbett did a superb job bringing these characters to life.

Plot: Nathan and Madison never thought they’d see each other again after their incredible one nightstand. Only a few days later Madison is asked to write an article for The Post showcasing the real Nathan Cove. Even though she knows it could be a huge conflict of interest, it’s also the opportunity of a lifetime. Deciding they both need this assignment to go well, they try to put on a professional façade, only to fall deeper for each other.

Hero: Nathan is hardworking and successful. Though he works twice as hard as his family, he still lives under their shadow, but with Madison, he’s able to open up and be himself.

Heroine: I loved Madison’s resolve and integrity as a whole and I love how she was able to see beyond Nathan’s successful CEO façade.

Sexiness: The chemistry between Nathan and Madison is super hot from start to finish.

World Building: I really liked the secondary characters, especially Nathan’s brothers who I hope we get books for.

Private Player is a standalone contemporary romance by Louise Bay. It’s told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Back in May, when the audio for this title released, I of course jumped on it and it made me happy. The narration made me happy. The characters made me happy. The story put a smile on my face and just made me happy!

Two weeks ago, when the ARC for this title landed on my kindle, I dove back in and read the story from cover to cover and you know what happened, it made me stupid happy!! Believe it or not, I smiled wider and laughed harder and I do believe I might have enjoyed it even more! #winning

Now comes the part where I tell you the why of it all. Private Player is not this unique, outside the box romance journey. It’s quite the opposite in fact. It’s predictable as all heck and it might have you rolling your eyes a time or two but despite all of that, you will enjoy it. Despite the predictability, you will root for these two because they have spark. Their characters give the story spark; a spark that made me giddy throughout my entire reading/listening experience. I just had a good time reading/listening to the story of Madison & Nathan and I think you might too :)

This was another audible membership freebie and, I regret to say, the worst so far from a poor lot.

I tried, I truly did, but my eyes were rolling pinball style at the plot. He’s the CEO of a company which recently went public. He built up the company from scratch and he’s single, yet implausibly, the market is insatiably interested in who he’s shagging. So much so in fact that a national newspaper offers to send one of its journalists along to shadow him, attend all of his meetings and engagements for weeks so she can write an article about him.

They had good chemistry, but the repeated references to this article and how important it was for both of them was just daft and aggravated me to distraction. He’s a private individual ffs, nobody cares and the public and media have no right to demand details about his private life. And the idea of one expensive employee reporter being assigned to follow one person for weeks on end to produce one story? Riiight.

I’m going for a lie down after that little outburst. But suffice to say, if that sort of thing doesn’t bother you then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this but it wasn’t for me.

Nathan and Madison had a fun meetup and an even better night once they were alone.
He was all man and she was willing to put him to the test.
The book moved at a pretty steady pace, but I feel like the the love connection was kind of lacking. I don't feel like they had that big moment that takes your breath away or makes your heart skip a beat. Had a insta lust feel.
I loved Nathan's family and want to go for a visit! They were the best.

The narration was spot on. I don't think Shane East can do bad at all. Madison's narrator was a new one for me and I think she did great too!

I absolutely love one night stands that turn into more especially when the couple meets again in a working relationship. Private Player by Louise Bay started out on a high note, but it seemed to lag in the middle, and I never felt like we got to know the heroine very well at all nor did I feel they knew each other well enough to move so quickly to the “I Love You” stage. This was a good book and I liked it, but I didn’t love it.

The company Nathan Cove built from the ground up has gone public and he now the youngest CEO in FTSE 100 history, but the board is happy with his womanizing ways especially after a picture is printed of him with Audrey, his friend Mark Alpern’s wife coming out of a bar at 3 a.m. While it was nothing nefarious on his part, it looked it and now he’s fighting for his job. At his PR person’s request he’s agreed to give a journalist open access to his life, he just doesn’t expect it to be the woman he had sex with at a wedding the past weekend and judging from her expression she didn’t expect it either.

Madison Shore finally has a chance to make her dreams of becoming a full time POST reporter a reality when she fills in for a maternity leave and being assigned her first real chance only to find out that it’s an in depth piece on none other than Nathan Cove, the man who rocked her world in bed over the weekend. She knows she should come clean to her boss, but this is her chance and she plans to see it through.

I loved the way they met and the flirty banter between them from the start. I wasn’t thrilled that they were both keeping secrets from one another from the start although I could somewhat understand Nathan’s reasoning given Madison’s occupation, but as they grew closer Madison definitely made a mistake by not coming clean which led to unnecessary drama. While I get the forced proximity of them working closely gave them a lot of time together we only saw bits and pieces and I needed more time with them getting close, their relationship seemed to come out of nowhere. The lust I could understand and I could even understand Madison falling for Nathan because she was really seeing all sides of him, but Madison didn’t open up, we don’t see that and so Nathan starting to want more just felt false to me.

As the first book in the series, we are introduced to Nathan’s brothers all of whom are doctors at various stages in their careers as well as his parents both retired doctors. I appreciated the back story of why Nathan didn’t follow in their footsteps. His mom and dad were so fun and precious together and I loved the interplay between the brothers. I loved that this glimpse into his family let the reader as well as Madison see him in a completely different light and again made me sad we didn’t get to see more of that in Madison.

This was a good series introduction and I am excited to see how it plays out as Nathan’s brothers find their perfect match and while I felt the relationship in this one was a bit rushed I still enjoyed reading their story.

I've enjoyed this new Louise Bay novel very much.
The flow of the story was perfect, it's gripping from the start and fast paced, so you don't get bored but at the same time you're curious about the main characters' relationship.

Nathan Cove, a famous CEO, and Madison Shore, a journalist, meet at a wedding, they sit at the same table and they ended the evening in the same bed. When they say each other goodbye the morning after they don't know that fate will make them meet again, in a more delicate and less fun situation. Madison gets the chance to prove her value as a journalist, leaving behind her mother's shadow as a gossip columnist, she has to write an article for THE POST to show to the world the real Nathan Cove. Nathan accepted to be shadowed by a journalist to show the shareholders of his company that he isn't the dissolute man they think but he is the best asset to his company. Will they be able to work together ignoring their physical attraction?

I really liked Nathan and Madison characters and their dynamics. I particularly appreciated Nathan, he is an assertive and successful man but he doesn't need to over show his power, in the bedroom and in the boardroom. I loved Madison tenacity to go after her dream job and succeed without losing her integrity.
Their relationship is steamy, as expected from Louise Bay's stories, and meaningful. Madison can see Nathan for what he really is since the beginning and that made me cheer for their happily ever after from the first chapter till the end.

I adored the supporting characters and I can't wait to read more about them in their brand new series.

Don't miss this book, it's a pleasure to read and it is hotter than a Summer day in South Italy.

Bay’s latest offering is the perfect summer distraction. Getting lost in her protagonists’ story kept me up until the early hours; brilliantly done, her character-driven narrative is a definite thumbs up from me.

Nathan Cole is stuck between a rock and a hard place, and as he’s a Private Player , his willingness to better his image with the board isn’t exactly forthcoming. All said and done, he was the brains behind his company now in the hands of shareholders and the like. It could get the better of him if it weren’t for a well-thought-out plan that oops—just happens to have a catch. And I blinkin’ loved it. Yet, the reader still isn’t out of the woods since Bay loosens the cord only to retract it when least expected.

“She’s got a job to do. I’ve got a job to do. We’re both professionals.”

I adored the meet-cute and hoped it would be a game-changer. How Bay planted the seed was utter perfection; however, surprises are in store for Nathan and Madison who, one way or another, have no wish to ponder on what happened. He doesn’t do serious, and she’s eager to show her boss her journalistic skills in a new assignment. So, the last thing she needs is more complications. Will they be able to keep their working relationship professional with so many sparks flying here, there and everywhere?

“Nathan Cole, you’re incorrigible.”

I found the importance Bay gave to friendship and family uplifting and in the now. And although the baddie hovering in the background spices things up, my only quibble was I would have liked to hear them clarify their actions. That said, learning about this individual’s relationship with Nathan and his family and how wrongdoings affected him was what drew me further and further into the book. Also, Madison keeping something of importance to herself had me nervously waiting to see Nathan’s reaction.

“So, what are these deep, dark secrets you’re so desperate to share with me?”

Bay’s choice of setting is beyond appealing; her characters’ growth faultless, and the wicked banter and sassy comebacks had me giggling into my pillow at silly o’clock. Private Player is a light-hearted, feel-good romance that ticked all the boxes and was exactly what I craved for. Apart from the well-thought-out plot, the above mentioned is why I awarded it 4.5 stars. Bravo!

Private Player is a stand-alone contemporary romance set in London by one of my one-click authors, Louise Bay. My favorite trope, if there is such a thing, is when the hero and heroine meet by chance. In her latest book, Madison Shore meets British billionaire and alleged playboy Nathan Cove when they are seated next to each other at a wedding. I couldn’t help but smile when I read their meet cute, and found myself routing for them from the very beginning.

I love the author’s sense of humor and how authentic and relatable her characters are. The men are all of great character and the women are one’s I would want to be friends with in real life.

Madison is so genuine and endearing and I loved how she longed to be a respected journalist. She showed so much character growth throughout the story and I admired her honesty, integrity and quick wit. She was no pushover, and took the assignment of shadowing her one-night, super-hot reclusive lover very seriously.

She vowed to keep things professional so she could do her job objectively which was to write an exclusive profile on Nathan, one that could make or break both of their careers. Toss in her mother who is a sensational journalist, a co-worker vying for the chance to snag her story right from under her, as well as a secret she’s been keeping, and you won’t be able to stop turning the pages to find out what happens next.

After their super steamy tryst, they became friends and confidants, gradually getting to know one another. I loved how she saw him for who he truly was, and only wanted the best for him. Neither is what the other expects and what I liked best about their slow burn romance.

There’s an underlying betrayal woven into Private Player as Nathan has been spotted alone with his married college pal, Audrey, on more than one occasion. He is stoic and honorable, and things aren't always as they seem. There is much more to him than meets the eye. This handsome, smart, successful business man is also loyal and humble, and Madison innately trusts him.

The author lets her readers in little by little as they both reveal truths from their past, as well as a legal situation that is currently brewing. And when Madison’s article is published in the Post, my stomach was in knots over the angst! Will Nathan ever forgive her? Was he blinded by love or can he admit that she may know him better than he knows himself?

You will have to read it for yourself, and trust me, Louise will not let you down. The entire premise of Private Player is about self-reflection, doing what makes you happy, and living your best life. I only wish the last few chapters were a little more detailed as I wanted more.

I loved, loved, loved all of the supporting characters including his PR consultant, Gretel, and his sexy, charming brothers, all of whom are doctors: Jacob, Beau, Zach and Dax. Their parents John and Carole were equally loveable and their support of their sons and the wisdom of their years made my heart swell. I loved this family and can’t wait to read the author's upcoming new series featuring the Cove brothers.

Wowzers! This was a fabulous hot romance!

”Quirky wasn’t my usual type, but there was something about Madison Shore that made my mouth water and my fingers heat with a need to touch.”

Nathan Cove and Madison meet at the wedding of mutual friends. Neither are fans of weddings but this one turns out to be one to remember when they find themselves sitting next to one another. One unforgettable, scorching night together has them going their separate ways. However, fate soon has them working together, as Madison is the journalist that has been assigned to write a profile on Nathan, playboy CEO of a FTSE 100 company. Their deal to leave their hot encounter in the past is easier said than done, as they strive for professionalism, but their rapport and connection are too strong to ignore.

”Sleeping with her again was probably a bad idea. There was too much to lose. Too much at stake. But I was beginning to think it would be worth it.”

The author launched this story with a big sizzling gung-ho! I was hooked from the start of Nathan and Madison’s story. They were both fantastic characters and I loved the honesty of feeling between them. I loved Madison’s pragmatism and directness, and Nathan’s brazen desire for Madison was thrilling! Both were genuine characters with caring hearts and protective instincts, and I also enjoyed their relationships with their respective families. There were parts of this novel that I felt were very reminiscent of some of the more mainstream romance novelists like Katie Fforde and Jill Mansell. I think the scenes outside of London and the family-centred focus really promoted the feel of other British contemporary romance writers. I found this story quite typical of this author’s style – she writes with intelligence, heat and low angst – but there was also a singular charm in her writing style that I don’t think was there before. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I adored it!

I already need more.

4,25 stars.

This book was sweet, steamy and had a great story line.
When Nathan and Madison meet, all they can think about is how they connect so easily and how their chemistry sparks so intensily. Little did they know that their lives would be entangled so tightly for the next few weeks.

To try and save his image, Nathan needs a journalist to write about him and show his true image. When that same journalist turns out to be Madison, they were surprised, rightfully wary and struggling to keep their growing feelings at bay.
As they get to know each other better (even better than their closest people), they both realize that trust and loyalty are two of the most important things for them. Yet they're both keeping secrets that have the potential to ruin their jobs, their careers and the relationship they're unknownigly starting.

I loved their interactions and the respect they had for each other. Despite of their secrets, they were honest and loyal to themselves and to the other, and that only solidified their feelings.

I also loved Nathan's family, their dynamics, how supportive they were. I can't wait to read more about them.

Louise has once again knocked it out of the park with Private Player. I love a sassy smart heroine and a naughty bad boy billionaire as much as the next gal!! Here we have Madison Shore and Nathan Cole who are seated together at a wedding and their meet cute was oh so comical. The dialogue was witty, smart, refreshing and oh so entertaining. They realize that they have chemistry so one could one night hurt! Although as a new day dawns fate has thrown them together for business reasons but neither one can forget the pleasure they both enjoyed.
Nathan was a man of mystery he had so many layers and Madison seemed to have knack for helping him reveal them.
Madison a journalist has finally gotten her big break but it comes with a price and that may be Nathan.
I loved this couple and everything that they brought to the table. Now let us also not forget to mention Nathan's wonderfully intrusive band of brothers and lovely parents!! What a great escape with Nathan and Madison !!

Review by Jen Skewes

I have always loved Louise Bay’s writing. And this book was no different. If you are looking for a fast paced, sexy, heat warming story with just the right amount of drama, then Private Player is for you.

Nathan and Madison meet at one of their least favorite places, a wedding. They are seated next to each other and when they first meet, Madison certainly makes an impression, with her dress caught on the chair and her knickers showing. They went from meeting at the table to sharing a bed that night. They both agreed it was nothing more than a one-night stand, and neither would see each other again. But fate has a way of stepping in.

Nathan is trying to not just convince but also show the board members of his company that the company needs him. He is trying to protect himself from being fired. What better way to do that then to have the Post follow him around and write an article about him which shows him as the man the board wants him to be, not the guy that they constantly see in the papers.

Madison wants to be a journalist and her dream is to work for the Post. She has just been given the assignment of a lifetime. Follow Nathan Cove around and write an article on him. But how can she write a biased article about someone that she had a one-night stand with. And what if someone finds out that they slept together. It could cause so much speculation about how she got the article and also ruin both their careers. This is her dream, and she is a good journalist. She will be professional and do what she needs to do, even if that means spending every day with the gorgeous man with the long lashes.

I l oved Nathan and Madison together. And while he may be this rick guy who is known for being a player, you see that maybe the media had it all wrong. Madison is the one person who sees so much more in him than most people do. There are some complications and a secret that Madison is holding onto. But with the connection and chemistry these two had, I was rooting for them.

What I loved was when Madison finally wrote her article. Despite how Nathan took it, you could see how much she really knew this man that she fell for but also see how she cared. I loved them together. I loved the dynamic between the two of them and just how good they were together. Meeting Nathan’s family and seeing how important family was to him, and how they welcomed her with open arms, even if she was just a friend, was a nice part of this story. I hope we get more from this group of characters, like Nathan’s brothers.

„There was too much to lose. Too much at stake. But I was beggining to think it would be worth it.”

As usual, Louise Bay brings all the steam! I love her standalones and sexy as hell heroes. Private Player is all about a chance meeting that led the main characters to the delicious forbidden romance. Sexual tension, struggling with the professionalism, secrets, understatements and off the charts chemistry- Nathan and Madison kept my eyes glued to the pages of their sinful story!

I love that before their professional relationship, Nathan and Madison succumbed to their passion. This made the tension between them even more electrifying and hard to ignore. And talking about their encounters- oh, how they made me blush! While they both had a lot to lose, the stakes were too high to risk, and unsaid truths hung over their heads like dark clouds, Madison and Nathan showed that breaking the rules can sometimes be the best thing to do and they did it oh, so brilliantly!

Swoon-worthy and sexy hero, amazing heroine, excellent storyline and wonderful side characters- Louise Bay delivered another great romance that's hard to put down. And speaking of secondary characters- I really hope the author is considering writing books about Nathan's brothers! Each of them stole my heart just like their brother did!

A sexy, successful CEO and an up and coming journalist trying to make her mark, are about to steam up your e-reader! Nathan and Madison are everything a second chance romance should be! Their working relationship makes a romance forbidden, but sometimes you just have to break the rules.

They met at a wedding and bonded over their mutual distate for wedding receptions. That all was going to change.

One night of passion. An unforgettable experience that they both walked away from. All they would have left was some smokin’ hot memories.

When Madison gets assigned to write an article on a successful CEO she jumps at the chance. She’ll be given all access and the chance to prove herself at the Post. It’s a huge opportunity and she’s ready to give it her all…then Nathan walks in.

Nathan needs to clean up his image. His company needs him to shed his playboy persona and be taken seriously. Madison’s been hired to show people who Nathan really is. He never expected his hot hook-up to be the journalist to whom he needs to bare all.

They can put the past behind them and keep things professional. However, the more they get to know one another, the harder that becomes. Madison needs a great story to lock down a permanent position at the Post. Nathan needs to be seen as a force that is capable of running a successful company. If only it were that easy.

Told is alernating first person POV, this was an enjoyable read. Nathan and Madison had great chemistry. They shared passion and fire. You definitely felt their connection grow as the story debeloped. We were also introduced to a fantastic family with four brothers I would love to know more about. And the author delivered more with an additional storyline that captured interest and created drama. The perfect afternoon escape.

I’d heard such great things about the swoony and steamy love stories of Louise Bay, so I was excited to dive into the Private Player as my first LB read. Intriguing cover, sexy billionaire, one night stand beginnings, and accidental second chance? Sounds delicious.

The characters in and of themselves are a likeable pair. Their romance begins with their chance meeting at a wedding, a meeting that results in a super steamy one night stand. They never thought they’d see each other again, but fate had other plans. Super successful CEO Nathan is all set to meet with a journalist for a serious article about his success and business acumen to impress his shareholders- and said journalist is none other than Madison, his enchanting wedding hook-up. Not super helpful when Nathan is trying to clean up his playboy image, and this article is his chance to be taken seriously. And Madison, too, is trying to be taken seriously as a real journalist, and to earn a more permanent place at the Post.

The story has all the makings of a book I’d adore- and I certainly enjoyed parts of it. Both characters have their charming moments - and their steamy beginning was just delicious. But from there, parts of the story fizzled- and dragged a bit for me in the middle, and I otherwise felt like the chemistry felt like it never really deepened. I did enjoy the side characters, and it was a quick read. It was certainly steamy, an enjoyable read overall, I just wanted to feel their romance a bit more emotionally. A bit of a lukewarm start to my Louise Bay reading, but I enjoyed it enough to give another story a go.

5 star Review Private Player by Louise Bay
Meeting at a mutual friends’ wedding, sparks fly between Madison Shore and Nathan Cove and in fact their meet cute was hysterical. When I first read the blurb for this book it had me laughing out loud and I knew I had to read it. To be honest it took me a little while to warm up to these characters but once I did, it was full speed ahead.
After a passionate one night stand they part ways not expecting to meet again. Both are horrified when they learn that Madison has been charged with writing an article on the super successful Nathan. He needs to clean up his reputation and his board of directors are insisting that he allow her to shadow him at his meetings both professionally and personally.
As they get to know one another they both realize there is more to one another than they first thought. Can they resist the attraction that seems to be getting harder to ignore. One of my favourite parts of this story was the relationship that Nathan has with his family. It was heart warming and the camaraderie and witty banter between Nathan and his brothers was humorous.

I read another ARC today. Finished around 3am, and I probably should have gone to bed…but one does not simply sleep when one gets an email from Louise Bay. I started Private Player and I was doomed.
I’m a long-time fan (long, long, long time, actually.) and I can honestly say this one is my favorite. Why, you ask? Because Madison and Nathan are so freaking real. Not larger than life, not inaccessible or hard to understand.
Nathan is the second out of a litter of five delicious brothers (I’d better get more about them STAT guys) and he’s never heard about giving up. Losing? Nuh-uh. Not an option. His competitive side is so deep into his psyche you understand every decision and feeling he has in this story.
Madison is also the fruit of her education in a different way. She’s been taught what’s right—speaking the truth, even when the truth hurts—and you can’t get mad at any of her decisions, even when they seem a little selfish.
These characters are human. Fully fleshed. I feel like I could just fly to London and hang out with them for a weekend. And I was sorry to let them go.
The trope here is forced proximity/working relationship. But it goes far beyond that.
A masterpiece.

3.5⭐
