Galileo Application 2021-2022 School Year
WHAT IS GALILEO MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL ALL ABOUT?
At Galileo, students participate in advanced level courses and seek to obtain the advanced diploma upon graduating.  Galileo is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School, part of a world-wide academically challenging program.  Students entering ninth grade at Galileo in the 2021-2022 school year will partake in IB courses their junior and senior years.  IB courses provide aspiring students with avenues to pursue a more in-depth education that is recognized across the world.  When your child enters their junior year, they will be enrolled in IB English and will also have the option to take a variety of other IB courses that we offer.  After being listed in national magazines as one of the best high schools in America, Galileo faces the future with a history of proven accomplishments and many exciting challenges.  See more information about Galileo on our website at http://galileo.danvillepublicschools.org/

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION TO CONSIDER ADMISSION:
Admissions committee will be comprised of an Administrator, School Counselor, IB Coordinator, Chief Academic Office of Instruction and Special Education Teacher where applicable. The committee will review the following in order to make a decision on acceptance, denial or wait list:
-Review of previous grades in all core areas
-Pass Proficient on SOL tests where applicable
-Acceptable discipline record

Please Note: Enrollment is limited as we have a maximum capacity in each grade level.  Once we have reached our maximum capacity, remaining students that are eligible will be added to a waiting list.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Step #1: Complete all portions of the application below and submit.
Students who are not city residents are required to complete an Out of City Residence Application in addition to the Galileo application. Students that fall into this category will receive from the school the Out of City Residence Application once they are accepted to Galileo.

Step #2:  Teacher Recommendation:
In order to complete the application packet, students must have two teacher recommendations.  The teacher recommendation form can be found at this link- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQj9eIzBrYrzwyHXAjEivXjxEZqE-61FnUjsC2_qj40kHgOg/viewform
 Please share this link with the two teachers of your choice and ask if they would be willing to complete. Bonner and Westwood students, your school counselors will gather the recommendations from your teachers.

Step #3:  Receive Letter of Acceptance, Denial or Wait List
Letters of acceptance, denial and wait list will be mailed home.

Step #4: Registration
Bonner and Westwood students will complete their registration form with their school counselor after being accepted.  Non-DPS students will receive a registration form in the mail with their acceptance letter.  That form must be returned to the school counselor by the specified date to complete the registration and enrollment process.

Applications are due January 15, 2021.
