No cost to participate!

Have an idea for a build? Want to create a personal masterpiece? We are here to help!

If you have previously participated in a YWiC summer intensive, we want you to explore your imagination and challenge yourself on a self-guided tour! You will have access to available materials, computers, building components, robotic kits, instructors, classrooms, labs, and faculty members. Our team will walk with you as you take the lead and turn your ideas into completed projects! This intensive is open to 30 HS young women who have previously participated in a YWiC summer program, and want to earn a weekly stipend as you create something new!

Spend one, two, or three weeks with us in June, and dive into CS on your terms.

This YWiC alum camp is for young women rising into 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, who have previously participated in a YWiC summer intensive. If you are rising into 9th grade, it's critical that you have completed at least 2 YWiC summer programs, and have the maturity to start and finish a complete project on your own.

NMSU's Computer Science and Young Women in Computing summer intensives are tailored to achieve four major goals:

1) Build community among young women through computing;
2) Increase young women's interest in computing;
3) Gain knowledge and experience with programming languages; &
4) Drastically increase young women's confidence in Computer Science.

Each goal is achieved through specific sets of activities implemented in the summer camp. Participants utilize computational thinking through a variety of interactive software tools. These tools, along with team building, career exploration, and leadership activities, show students that computer science is a fun, creative, engaging, and rewarding field!

NMSU is a nationally ranked Carnegie Foundation research institution with top performing programs and services. We strive for excellence in all areas of teaching and learning, and work to identify best practices for continued success. All participants will engage in this process via pre- and post-assessments, entry and exit interviews, daily surveys, and other data gathering methods.

Summer programs are presented by the outreach team in the Department of Computer Science at NMSU! Instructors are accomplished NMSU students studying computer science and electrical engineering. We utilize near-peer mentors as educators to build strong connections between participants and the exciting world of CS.

Acceptance into this program is based on first entry and is not a competitive process. The application will remain open until all slots are filled. If you have any questions, contact rgalves (at) cs.nmsu.edu or (575) 646-1901.

We can't wait to see you apply your programming experience and creativity!
