Il Villaggio Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese Bites

I can’t keep chunks of hard cheese in my house. The reason why is because I will sit down with a paring knife and a chunk of cheese and whittle off delicate paper thin slices that I will then pop into my mouth so their salty goodness can melt on my tongue. I swear, it’s more addictive than potato chips. If I happen to be sitting in front of a TV while doing this, I can easily go through a 4 or 6 ounce block of cheese.

Therefore, I’ve learned not to bring hard cheese into my house unless it’s already grated or it’s in a very small portion. And when do you ever see very small portions of hard cheese being sold? Never! Well, that was until I discovered these Il Villaggio Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese Bites at my local Whole Foods. They’re 99 cents each. I was so excited when I found them.

They were a little disappointing when I first unwrapped one. Since they’re in a plastic wrapper, the outer texture was a little soft and plasticky. Once I got past that, however, they were good. Were they the best parmesan I’ve ever had? No. On a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is the worst ever and 10 the absolute best, I’d give these bites an 8. What makes them one of my favorites is the fact that they’re sold in small single serving packages for portion control and they’re super convenient to grab and go.

I’ve bought them several times since discovering them and can honestly say that they’re probably my favorite single serving sized packaged cheese out there. I’m not a cheddar fan or crazy about those mini goudas. And they’re real cheese – not “cheese food”.

Ingredients: Cows Milk, Salt, Animal Rennet.
