What a sweet story!

This was a really touching YA romance with a unique set-up. The hero was homeless, having run away from his abusive foster home, and the heroine was a straight-A high school senior who fell in love with him. Two people from completely opposite world meeting by chance and finding true love.

Even from the first few pages of Dean's story, my heart went out to him. Here he was at 17 years old alone, homeless, and at the end of his line. After ten years of failed foster homes, he finally was placed in one so brutal that striking out on his own, even without a roof over his head, was better than suffering through that pain. He was determined to make it on own though, without accepting help, and he had one thing that was keeping him going...

"My parents might be dead, but my sister isn't. I promised myself the day the social worker ripped her from me I'd find her."

In complete contrast to his life, Anna's life was fueled by her Ivy League dream. As a straight-A student and a perfectionist, Harvard and Princeton were in her future. And in order to better her chances of getting in, she volunteered at various places, including a soup kitchen... which was where she met Dean.

"How long have you been…?" She stops, but I know what she was going to say.
"Homeless? You can say it. It's just a word…and the truth? About two years."

Something about him drew her in, made her want to know more about him, and despite her rule to never get attached, she couldn't stay away from him... Even though they met by chance, they kept choosing to see more and more of each other until being together just felt like the most natural thing in the world.

"When will I see you again?"
"Soon." He zips up his hoodie and puts a jacket over it. "We can't seem to stay away from each other."

This story is told in alternating POVs between Dean and Anna. I have to say that Dean's side of the story especially really tugged my heartstrings. Gosh, what a sweet, kind, wonderful guy! My heart broke for him and for the shitty hand that life had dealt him, but he was so easy to fall in love with.

"Would a girl like Anna even think about me let alone want to be with me? … What can I give her? I literally have nothing to offer."

In contrast though, I had a bit of a harder time connecting with Anna. Even though her heart was in the right place, I felt there were times when her lack of awareness/maturity really showed through -- like in the way she said certain things in front of him that were casually careless, instead of being aware of how her life of privilege would naturally afford her a better life. But she learned quickly and she really was a good person, she really did care deeply for him, and I loved that she saw him, not just a homeless guy.

"I'm so used to people only caring about my situation. I forgot what it was like to have someone care about me."

I know this doesn't matters to everyone, but I also know some of you like to be aware of this so I'll just let you that this is genuinely YA -- there's no sex at all, just some kissing. To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed this story even more if it had been set in college, rather than high school, but I still very much enjoyed it as it was. -- Oh, also, I do wish there had been an epilogue. At the end, we're left with the feeling that they've gotten through the worst of things and are on a path that will lead them to a future filled with happiness, but I would have loved to see some of that future in an additional chapter at the end.

I found this to be a really easy read, but one that kept my attention throughout. It's very well-written and I read it in one sitting. There's almost no angst and no unnecessary drama, but there are definitely some darker themes given his life on the street and the harsh realities of his situation. I'd honestly say this would be a great "recovery" read. If you've just come off either some really dark or intense reads, then this would be a great one to follow up with because there was nothing that made me sob or put my heart in my throat, but at the same time, it made me care for the characters and I really enjoyed reading their story.

Rating: 4 stars. Contemporary YA romance.

3.5!

"As I see it, the only thing worse than death is life. Maybe not everyone’s life. But mine is a lonely, sad existence with no point other than to survive another day"

This is one of those books that I don't want to rate. I only gave it a 3.5 but really you guys, I loved it. I'll explain later why. I really think that there are books that cannot fit into a rating.

The plot is really not that unheard of. Poor guy who is homeless meets not-so-poor girl who always wear cardigans and always has the perfect grades. But you know what, despite the cliché-ness of it all and that I practically read this plotline before, Home is Where You Are stands out. This book is so hopeful and it gave me all that fuzzy feeling like I have butterflies inside my stomach. I swooned, I got teary eyed and it’s just so... sweet.

I had some reservations when it comes to Anna because Dean is homeless and letting him inside her house to take a shower is just plain stupid. And they just knew each other for 2 days. I'm sorry, but doesn't she watch the news? Tsk. But anyway, I let that one slide since they're so adorable together. Anna is likeable when she's thinking straight. She's actually not one of those protagonists that annoy me so much because they cannot stop thinking about the body of the love interest. Anna's kindness is so real I can feel it through the pages. And okay .okay, I admit, for a homeless guy, Dean is sooooo swoon-worthy. He made me giggle instead of barfing when he's turning his charm on-- which is very rare to happen. I usually barf.

I read an ARC but I feel like mentioning this on my review. There's a lot of spelling errors. There's also a weird thing that happened: a few chapters in and Dean mentioned her sister to Anna but fast forward to chapter 18 and she sounded surprised when she heard of it.. like it’s a brand new information. It wasn't mentioned in her monologue that she forgot about it so yeah, it’s an error. It’s an error that hopefully, the author will fix before publishing the book.

And that's how it came to a 3.5. But like I said above, I really loved it. A very sweet and hopeful book. It will leave you with a smile and a very light feeling.

Anna's had some awful things happen to her and basically her family has disintegrated. Dean also had some awful things happen and now he's homeless just trying to make it day by day. When they meet, there's no turning back for either of them.

Anna is pretty amazing and exhausting. I don't know how she's able to accomplish all she does every day. But maybe she keeps herself so busy, that she doesn't have to deal with what's really bothering her. Luckily, Dean helps her to see what's really important.

My heart went out to Dean. It was hard to read what he's been through and what happens to him. TM really gives you a sense of what happens living on the streets.

description

There is not really any steaminess in this book. There is some romantic times and lots of good kissing but that's about it.

I loved how even though Anna and Dean were different, they were so much alike. They just fit and they both had to open themselves up to the other. I always love when books have both POVs and it really helped to understand the characters in this book.

I liked how everything worked out even if it was a tough road to get there. I also liked the HFN instead of a HEA even with the epilogue. I would love another book especially one about Sean and Katie and I was happy to see that she is working on one!

Thanks Annie for the recommendation!

As I see it, the only thing worse than death is life.-Dean

5 sweet cherry blossom stars!!!!

Yeah. This is one of those books that just took my breath away. From start to finish, I was immersed into Dean and Anna's worlds. And what a sad and painful world it was. These two endured so much in their young lives and it pained me to experience it firsthand. But it was one that needed to be told.

Dean has been in different foster homes since the time he was ten when he lost his family. His sister is taken away after their parents died in a horrific car crash. Dean and Josie-his sister-separate, not by choice. But each family he's thrown into proves what horrors come of such circumstances. His last family are drug addicts and abusive. That's when he makes the decision to leave that life behind and live on the streets. With just the clothes on his back and a fee mementos of his previous life/family-the only one he cared about-he sets out on his own. But even then, he's risked getting froze to death and beaten by strangers and mugged. It's such a sad and scary world for him.

Anna is a perfect student. Graduating with A's and tutoring kids who need help, she's determined to go to a prestigious school. Though her home life is anything but perfect, she's not willing to back down. She even volunteers at the Soup Kitchen during the winters. And that's where she meets Dean...or more accurately, runs into him on the sidewalk. Her rules for this job are simple: don't get attached to the homeless and don't try saving anyone. It's already proved to be painful in the past. But something about Dean makes her break her rules. He's different than the rest of those who walk through the door for a warm meal. So against her better judgement, she does what it takes to get his attention. And from there is the most amazing journey from friendship to a love so real and epic.

The writing was so smooth with it's prose, easy to follow. I could see the scenes unfold like a movie. Not once did I get confused as to who's pov I was reading. Well, besides the chapters being labeled, I could feel and practically hear their voices and they were both different. I loved being in both of their heads. Especially Deans. Oh my, that poor sweet beautiful boy in the hoodie. My heart broke for him the most. I wanted to jump into my kindle and take him away from that awful life he was leading. But thankfully Anna was there to show him his life won't always be dark and scary. The author painted such a vivid picture of the events and horror of being homeless and alone. The emotions were so intense and it felt like I couldn't breathe...waiting for something to happen. Great writing. It was perfect; the words flowed effortlessly off the pages (or screen), not just thrown together in some senseless manner. I love to experience, not just to be shown how the characters are feeling. And it was like that in this case.

This was an absolute delight. I started it late last night and couldn't put it down. But sadly, I had to abandon it to get some sleep for work today. And all day I thought of these two genuinely kind-hearted people. I kept running scenarios through my head. I couldn't wait to get home and get back to their story. It broke my heart yet warmed it up quickly. I laughed. I cried. I gasped in horror. I shook my kindle with rage. And then I smiled. And swooned. And sighed. And cried again. Just so many emotions hit me like a tsunami. But it was worth every second of it. And I feel this was one of those books that need to be read. It gives you pause, and a new perspective on life situations. Because its real, raw, gritty and oh so devastating when you think of the fact that it happens. Dean's situation is not uncommon. And when we complain about our hair or the foods we don't like but have to eat or the temperature that's too cold of hot, there are others that have it worse than us. And I'll forever remember Dean and how he struggled and lost hope, but still managed to carry on with dignity and the determination to make his life worth something. He was a hero. And Anna is probably my top female character. She was strong and stubborn, never giving up on him. I wanted to be her friend. She had a heart of gold. And together these two warmed my heart, with their witty banter and perfect chemistry. I enjoyed this story immensely and wish I could read it again for the first time. It's one not to be missed!!!

If I were to describe it in one word only, I would say: hope.

To be honest, I feel that the synopsis doesn't make this story justice. It makes it seem quite shallow, though instead it is a deeply emotional story, beautifully written and full of hope. This is not Anna's story (as much as Dean's), though she is part of it and she gets her own most needed healing.

But maybe that's a good thing, as it took me by surprise, and what a lovely surprise that was!

"Home is Where You Are" is a story about struggle, about how unfair life can be, but how it can change if you work hard for it (and yeah, if you have a lucky star too). This is a story about broken families and broken hearts, about the process of healing, about how small gestures might feel like they have the power to take the pain away, about how love (in every form, from pure friendship to actual 'love', even simple kindness) can give you the force to move on, defy all odds and just be better.

This is such a powerful story, emotional and sweet, and the characters were absolutely lovely. I rooted for them, I wanted to reach to them and take them in my arms, I laughed with them and felt like crying with them. I cringed at how defeating some situations were, I giggled at their wittiness, because life could bring them down, but they still had the will to get up.

It's like that saying: When life knocks you down, calmly get back up, smile, and very politely say "you hit like a bitch".

Also, it pains me to think that this is fiction - I would love for all the people in Dean's (similar) situation to get the opportunity to change their lives for better. To find good people that would give them a hand or at least care a tiny bit. I would love to think that there are happy endings left in this world for people in need of them, my heart is breaking for people like a particular someone in this story that didn't get the chance to make the dreams come true.

I tell you, this is a powerful story. I hope that you will feel the same, because there is so much beauty in such powerful feelings.

Thank you, Tessa Marie, thank you for making this book part of my life. It really left an imprint on my heart!

Happy midnight reading!

Read the full review here. I'll have it updated here soon.

PS: I loved this so much that I attached a personal picture to it. That's me playing with leaves.. and I think that it relates to the story pretty well :)

“A place is just that, a place. But a home. A home is where your heart is.”

This cover doesn't do this beautiful, heartwarming story any justice, people. This book is more than just a romance (although there is definitely a lot of that), it's also a story about second chances, and changing for the better.

While this book doesn't have the most unique plot, the characters and the writing were gorgeous.

The characters were really fleshed out and all had distinct personalities, especially our main characters.

Dean went through a lot of character development. At first, he was as hard as a rock, and after meeting new people, he realized a lot of truths, and he came to be a caring and lovable hero. He always believed that he had nothing else to live for, but then he found that you could be family with people who aren't blood related to you.

Anna was a bit stuck-up and rigid at first, but by the end of the story, she was more relaxed and at home. I loved how she willingly gave second chances to the people around her who had disappointed her. See, her mom and brother haven't really been there for her, but when they came around and asked for her forgiveness and made promises to be better for her, she didn't push them away. She accepted them with open arms.

“We may be part of two very different worlds, but right now we're in our own together.”

Now together... Excuse me and give me a few minutes to swoon. Oh God, guys. Dean and Anna were just so perfect together. They had so much chemistry that I thought my eReader would explode. At first they were iffy towards each other, but then they started spending more and more time with each other and just... *sigh*

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, sweet read, and who wouldn't mind a not-too-realistic story.

What a beautiful book!!! I loved it!!! Young love, innocent love and love that transcends all barriers :D

 photo homeiswhereyouare_zps6d47f7ba.jpg

Lets start with the basic concept of a Homeless boy and an Ivy League ambitious girl coming together and accepting that nothing is bigger than LOVE!!!

My heart ached for Dean so much... that it tore me to the core. The author has beautifully written an Alpha who can feel what it means to cry and feel pain (emotional and physical) he is strong but at times can't fend himself from people stronger than himself... its well written and not anything which is fancy. The author has brought out an extreme situation of the Male protagonist in such beautiful lines.

I think f Dean and feel so much for him, he is passionate, raw and has a soul of an angel. He does not allow the street to take away his innocence and the beauty is the Author hasn't portrayed him as a manwhore. He is simple and beautiful :)

Anna is such a brilliantly played young girl who is full of love for people around her. She doesn't judge and accepts the way one is.

I truly loved the way their love blossomed, pure and wonderful.

What I loved is that its DUAL POV and when Dean's Pov starts it has a symbol of Autumn leaves and when it comes to Anna its Cherry Blossom (amazing)

I don't want to get into the story much cause you really need to pick this up and read ;)

I loved their Library moment such love its so cute ^^

Their Soup Kitchen moments where she volunteers and he comes for dinner its so innocent and sweet ^^

This review can also be found on my blog: A Match Made in Heaven

This story was really sweet and heartwarming. I was looking for something "feel-good" after having a bad experience with a dark romance, and this ended up being perfect.

I really loved Anna. She was a such a disciplined girl. She was so studious, but it was not in an annoying way at all. And she may have been volunteering to make her college applications look good, but she was also doing it because she is just an amazingly selfless person. She cared too much. She wanted to save everyone that she could not possibly save, and it broke her heart whenever she failed. But she did save Dean.

Dean was a great kid who had been given a really shitty hand. He did his best and I actually really admire him for sticking through his situation as long as he had. And then surviving on the streets for two years at his young age and remaining clean is impressive.

It was a lot of fun to watch them falling in love, and it was just such a heartwarming story. They were so perfect together and their paths were clearly always meant to join. They have such a bright future together.

Anna is a straight A student and an overachiever. She does volunteer work and community service to look good on her college applications. She has a good heart and is very kind. Dean is homeless and is fighting everyday to survive life on the streets. I loved the chemistry between Anna and Dean. There's so much more to these characters than what meets the surface and I love the character development in this book. This book was a lot more emotional for me than I thought it would be. The things that Dean had to go through and his daily struggles were so real and it really broke my heart. This was a beautiful story of loss, love, and hope. Highly recommend!

This books was good. I really enjoyed it. Dean and anna story really struck me. Dean was homeless and had had a bad start to life and anna life had been the same hut after her meeting dean a few times she felt the need to help him. Their relationship got stronger to only have dean push it away until somethings happened to make him think things and become happy. xxx

Home is Where You Are was the type of book that immediately pulls you into an emotional connection with it. I've said before that I'm not really a crier, but within the first couple of chapters of this book I already had tears in my eyes. This is a sweet and emotional story about showing courage in the face of adversity and about how love rises above all social barriers.

Dean has been living rough of the streets for years now and has learned to depend on only himself. He trusts no one and carefully guards himself against others, even those who show him kindness.
Anna's family were torn about by a life changing event and now Anna spends most of her days working to maintain her perfect grades and fulfill her goal in life of getting into the 'right' college. However, she is desperately lonely and only the love of her best friend and her desire to achieve keep her going.
When Anna and Dean meet at the soup kitchen where Anna is volunteering, they have an immediate connection. They fight it but their pull towards each other is undeniable and eventually they embark on a journey full of heartbreak, hope and love.

Anna and Dean had the sweetest connection. Their romance was gorgeous, but the thing I loved most about them was their HOPE. They showed amazing strength and resilience in the face of life's challenges. They definitely had their ups and downs and their moments of doubt but they managed to work things out and together helped to make a better life for Dean.

"There are a few stories where kids have been able to turn their lives around, but the luck shit is once in a blue moon. And my moon has been black for so long its practically dead."

The supporting characters in this book were wonderful. However, I can't help wishing we got to explore Deans relationship with fellow street kid, Wanda, a little more. They were both complicated characters but in spite of their issues they were willing to attempt a friendship. Knowing a little more about the dynamics of their friendship would have added a different angle and level of depth to this story.

I absolutely can NOT write this review without giving a little shout out to my favourite character, Marv. What an amazing man. He cared about Dean when it seemed as though no one else in the world did. If only there were more people like Marv around, this world would be a better place.

"You think I don't lie awake at night, wondering if you got into the Y?" Marv stands, forcing the chair back with his legs. "You don't think I care if you're freezing your ass off out there? If you have enough to eat. Terrified that you might not make it through the night." Tears build in Marv's eyes. "Because I do. Every damn night."

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was original and heartfelt, and kept me glued to the pages. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I found this book accidentally because of the recommendation that shows up on goodreads. And I'm so glad that I read this book because this book is really good!

This book has captivated me even from the dedication page—which says:

"Dedicated to those facing the impossible.
Stay strong.
Anything is possible."

And when I start to read chapter 1, I know I'm going to love this book. I stayed up late, and when I was woken up at 3 am by my cat for no reason whatsoever and couldn't get back to sleep, I read this book until I fell back asleep. Then when I woke up, the first thing I do is back to read this book. Even when I was at the cinema waiting for the movie to start, I was also reading this book.
That's because it's really easy to get into the story. I feel so connected with the story so I just want to keep reading to find out the whole story.

The concept of this book is unusual. I've never read a book with this concept before. A homeless teenage boy that has a very painful past and a smart girl who's so obsessed on getting good grades that also because of the painful past.

I like the story, the characters development, and the writing.

Even though Dean is a homeless boy, he's very hardworking. He doesn't take a pity from people around him. He's so protective of people he cares about. Although there are times I feel like punching him on the face because of his stubbornness, but I like his character.
Anna is a very smart and ambitious girl. I like her because she's not a typical rich girl that only goes to parties and being mean to people. She's a total opposite from it. She studies really hard and volunteers everywhere. She loves to help people. And I really love her character because of that.

Exactly like the dedication says, this book really shows us how to keep fighting and don't give up easily even though the situation we face seems so impossible.

Too bad the epilogue is not really satisfied me. I wish it was longer because I'm so curious about Dean's sister!!

This author is new to me. I never read any of her works before this. But after reading this book I will surely give her other books a try in the future.

5 You Feel Like Home Stars

Tessa Marie (aka Theresa Paolo) has won me over yet again with a sweet and light story that tugs on her heart (and the corners of your mouth.) Home is Where You Are has become my favorite of her titles I've read to date. It beat out Never Again which I've reread several times.

I think the best part of a Tessa/Theresa book is that there is such simplicity in the prose, yet it still manages to hit in the right places. I usually devour on of her books within a couple hours, and then proceed to have the biggest hangover while I'm tempted to read the whole thing over again. The characters have been solidly developed, diving deeper than just the physical attractions.

Dean is homeless, Anna comes from the upper class (ps... love this trope) yet I don't see them as the homeless guy or the preppy girl. I see them as Dean and Anna. A guy who has suffered losing his family and a girl who feels like she has to maintain a certain appearance or lifestyle in order to be happy. But really, they both feel very alone.

I loved watching these two fall for each other. I love YA romance because the build is slow and torturous in the BEST way. Tessa really knows how to make a bud turn into a gorgeous flower within the few pages we get with these special characters. And even though the romance was worth the read alone, I adored the moments with both Dean and Anna's family. (Yeah, ended up crying a few times near the end...)

So thank you, Tessa... Theresa... whoever you are ;) for writing young adult romances for those big kids like us who can't get over them. Trust me, this book was much appreciated after the lull I've been in as of late. You have a fan for life!

I really really enjoyed this novel, like stayed-up-until-4-AM to finish it enjoyed :) That being said, I could definitely see some aspects of it that would bother others, but for some reason I was able to look past all of it. There were quite a few noticeable editing errors and although it dealt with some major issues (teen homelessness, death of a parent, etc...) it didn't seem to delve too deep into it and making it slightly unrealistic IMO. I was surprised by how much I really liked Wanda seeing as we only met her a handful of times, . Some things were predictable, while others I felt could go either way. I loved Anna and Dean, separately and together. They weren't annoying at all and they recognized when they were being ridiculous in regards to each other's tragedies. Dean didn't make Anna's plights seem trivial just because she had a home, and Anna didn't sugarcoat anything or censor herself because he was homeless. The ending felt a bit rushed and I wish it was different, but all in all I really loved reading it and would definitely recommend it :)

This was one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful books I have read this year!

Anna is the proverbial good girl. She gets straight A's, never skips class, and even volunteers at the local soup kitchen. With her father dead, her mother never home, and her older brother off at college she is pretty much on her own.

Dean is a survivor. After escaping horrible abuse at a foster home he now lives on the streets. He doesn't accept charity or handouts and he doesn't let anyone get close.

Life keeps throwing the two together and slowly they start to open up. Through witty banter and kind actions they grow closer and closer, but when the reality of Deans world smacks him in the face he pushes Anna away out of fear. He has vastly underestimated her determination though.

As I see it, the only thing worse than death is life.~Dean

With this first line I was hooked. My heart completely broke for Dean. He has been through so much and although it has left its mark on him, he is not broken. He is sarcastic, funny, and determined. As much as he tries not to care about people he does. Him and Anna balance each other out beautifully. They show everything that is wrong with stereotypes.

I hope and pray that this is not the last we hear about Dean and Anna. I recommend this book for everyone! Young and old.

Once again loved it. Sweet simple read. Can't believe there is a second book!

*First review: June 2nd 2015

LOVED IT!
This was truly an enjoyable story. Super cute, super quirky, super awesome! About two people from two completely different worlds who literally bump into each other and from then on change each others lives for the better. It was about being with the one person that makes you happy and better even though they're from way different social circles...like the homeless circle.
So Dean is homeless, a very attractive and clean homeless guy and surprisingly very intelligent...AND HE READS!!! Yes I want one!
Homeless isn't so much a lifestyle as it is a choice. And that's what Dean slowly came to realize, that he had the potential to be something more than he was and got off the streets.
Anna was the typical 4.0 prep school girl. Straight A's but never did the 'party scene'. Had everything planned out but didn't expect the stranger who bumped into her to change her view on life completely.
Dean and Anna's story was really amazing! I fell in love with their love, their interaction, their complications, their struggles and their happiness together. It was BEAUTIFUL!
And I want another book!

The best thing about this book is that it promotes hope. For anyone who has experienced being at their lowest, they could use a spark of hope. I actually picked up this book after reading Aimee's review on Goodreads. For some reason, I've been gravitating towards realistic fiction lately, and that's a good thing, because I found myself reading a book a week. Yay! So on to my review...

This is my first time reading a book from Tessa Marie, and it was a pleasant experience. We are introduced to two alternating perspective of teens, who are the opposites of each others' lives. Dean, who lost his parents, and was thrown into the system with her sister, Josie. He ended up being homeless at 15. Anna, who has been sheltered all her life, and has always depended on her checklist.

Being in the system since his parents died, Dean has grown tough, and refused anyone's help. He didn't want to learn to depend on anyone because he found it hard to deal when good things could come to an end at any given time. He has learned to survive on his own, doing random jobs for other people, like raking leaves during the fall (hence, the book cover), or shoveling snow in the winter. He would write down his name to be lotto'd out to have a place for a night in a shelter, if he's lucky, otherwise, he slept in a trestle near the train tracks. For years, he has been trying to find his sister, but hasn't had any luck.

Anna's life was perfect, until her dad died. Her mother is almost never home, and her brother took off when he turned 18. She became somewhat independent and did her best at school so she could grab a spot at an ivy league school. She devoted her free time to volunteer work - building houses, tutoring, helping at the soup kitchen, etc. She told herself that she wouldn't befriend anyone from the soup kitchen anymore because it was hard for her to become attached to someone. Well, until she met Dean.

Romance wasn't really the main focus of the story, but it did play a part. When the main characters met each other, I found their sarcastic banters, sweet and funny. Anna's intention of befriending Dean wasn't because she was attracted to him nor because of pity. Dean thinks it's because she pitied him, which he hates the most. Anna didn't give up on getting to know his story, and Dean found himself slowly falling for her.

I liked the character development for both main characters. Through their perspectives, we get to know how they deal with their struggles. Dean, who had a very tough exterior, slowly allowed himself to believe that there are people who could actually care about him and not his situation. Anna and her mother's estranged relationship slowly improved, and I love how she can overlook a person's situation, and just be sincere with her intentions to help.

Why didn't I give this book a higher score? Well, I did have some issues. I guess, being a non-teenager is a factor. There were "sweet moments" that I found cringe-worthy. Plus, there were scenes, where I found Dean, not having the concept of boundaries. They just met, they weren't even close yet, but he managed to be too close for comfort, in my opinion. The plot isn't really unique, and I guess the story just flowed too smoothly. It's not a bad thing, not at all. I guess, to me, the story isn't really too special.

Overall, it was a pleasant read. It teaches us how to find hope within ourselves, how to survive and be strong, and how to trust that there are people that really cares about you. #

LOVE this book!!!
It's such a sweet story to read both POV's - learning about the good and bad parts of living life on the streets -

Dean is a sweetheart - 10 years ago, his parents died, and he and his sister were shoved into foster care. But they got separated. After many years of trying to find her, he's slowing giving up. Just trying to survive is hard enough. But if he lets her go, he has nothing else to live for.

Anna's life is a mess - her dad passed away a few years ago, and her mom checked out - well checked into her work and hardly was around long enough to pay attention. Her older brother went off to college without looking back , she couldn't feel more alone.

But life for Anna is strict - getting a 4.0 average and getting into Ivy College is the only thing she has going for her. But her grades aren't enough. Ivy colleges look for things outside of school as well. Volunteering takes up any time she's not studying, so what's left?

By chance Anna runs into Dean a few times - he doesn't look like a homeless guy at all. Clean clothes, clean hair, only a few bruises that seem to add a little sadness to his face.

But something keeps drawing him to her. When she's able to talk to him, even though she asks him a million questions, Dean finds it a little refreshing. Sure he doesn't want to talk about himself, but he finds it funny when she gets upset with his silence.

These two both have one thing in common, they're lonely and find that being around each other brings them both happiness. Anna doesn't Pity Dean - and Dean doesn't feel like Anna has more than he does. Just because she's fortunate to have a warm bed to sleep in every night..

But when reality hits Dean and he realizes that he's just holding her back from happiness, that he can't give her what she deserves in her life, he does what he does best...

Really REALLY cute story - It has a great message that will probably help my daughter in her teenage years, so I'm anxious for her to read it :)

This was an awesome read. The language is free flowing, modern and a quick read. I like the
multiple points of view from both Dean and Anna. Anna is a typical overachiever straight A middle
class high school girl worried about college applications with a snarky best friend Katie.Dean has
had rough breaks and has been living on the streets. While they are close in age, these two are
worlds apart. Their worlds collide, literally but will either one let the other into their lives. Anna is
scared of becoming too involved and steering off her straight and narrow path to the Ivy League.
Dean is scared of becoming attached to anyone or anything after he has lost so much.
Misconceptions, stereotypes and fear create walls but sometimes the smallest things can be the
gateways to greatness. This book while a romance, can be shared with all ages, as I feel the
humbleness and subject matter are appropriate for young adults and mature audiences alike.

This book was incredibly touching. I really felt for Dean from the very beginning. Tessa Marie must have done her research. Dean's world as a homeless teenager felt very believable to me. His fears, his motivations, his goals, all made sense, even though I still wanted to shake some sense into him from time to time! :)

Anna was also likeable, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Overall, a really well done story.

What a sweet, gorgeous, uplifting story!!
This is my first Theresa Marie book and I really enjoyed it. The characters were complex and kept me intrigued...and it was hard not to fall for Dean. What an amazing guy, his attitude after everything he suffered had me swooning a little.
Anna is a great match for him and I enjoyed their banter as they were getting to know each other.

If you like romantic books that will tug at your heart-strings, then definitely give this sweet read a try.

"My eyes flutter shut and I think of the life I once had, the one where happiness existed."

Anna Hayward has got it all under control. In her über long check-list, she has been working her butt off just to get to an Ivy League. She has a GPA of 4.0, chief editor in her school's news paper and a volunteer of almost everything she can squeeze in her planner. But the best was volunteering in the soup kitchen with her Mom's best friend, Barney.

And then she meets this cooper-eyed boy and everything she has neatly ordered with her life comes crashing down...

"There is one simple rule when it comes to volunteering: Do not get emotionally involved. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way, and as much as it hurts me to not get involved, I do what I have to do. Because once you open yourself up, it's over."

Dean Landon has been surviving on his own ever since his parent's died and ran away from his abusive foster home. He has no one but himself to count on. So when he was almost literally ran over by a girl, he has never felt something important that he couldn't loose...

"This woman remembers all the details of my life, and I can't even remember her name. But I have to do it. I can't allow these people to become real to me because once they do, it's over. I did it once and it nearly broke me."

Now, we embark on romance with two different worlds colliding that neither one notices that both of them are falling hard for each other.

Anna and Dean have both been scared by their pasts and by their status in life. So when they try a relationship, Dean can't help but feel inadequate next to Anna. Because, a homeless person like, what can he give to Anna?

"Even if she's interested in me, what can I give her? I literally have nothing to offer. A girl like her can have her choice of guys, at least one who has a house to live in and a family."

Love. Understanding. Protection.

I think, Dean, that's what you can give to Anna.

*cries uncontrollably*

I am so happy to read this book. Actually, this is my first book this year and I am glad I read it.

I think, for me, it was about how we should reflect on our blessings we received and are receiving. Dean is homeless and have no parents. I thank God how blessed I am to have clothes on me, a roof above my head and can eat more than three times a day. Not all of us are very lucky and I am thankful I am blessed.

description

The book kinda reminds me of two books. One is Heart on a Chain and the second one is Wishing for Someday Soon. Both are about surviving and how every little thing is to be savoured and be grateful about it. Except both books' protagonist was a girl… And I think it was more painful to read. But don't get me wrong, this book was a nice change because we not only get to read Dean's mind but we get to read Anna's mind too! So I got that going for me which is nice.

A perfect read to start off my year. :)

Here's a doodle gif to show my happy dance. LOL

** JOSIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW **

Home is Where You Are is a beautiful, heart wrenching, soul searching, love story. The author did an amazing job with the plot, the characters and telling this story. I loved the way she was able to write these characters in such a raw and tense environment but also added details that will tug at your heart. This is not an ugly cry read but it is heart wrenching. Knowing and feeling what the Dean goes through on a daily basis and you feel and see the pureness of Ana’s heart by not just seeing what was on the outside.

I absolutely loved Anna’s character. She was strong, sincere and stood firm in her friendship and then her relationship with Dean. Anna was living her life based on how her dead father wanted her to live. She did what she was supposed to do and followed the straight line. The only thing she did differently was work at the soup kitchen. This is where her life is changed. She meets Dean at the soup kitchen and although they are not instant friends, they eventually strike up a friendship. Anna wants to help, and offers him help not because she feels pity for him but because she cares.

Dean lives a complicated life. He lost his parents and was in and out of the Foster care system for years. After getting physically abused by his foster father, he decides its best to stay in the streets. The author takes readers inside the world of a homeless person. All the dirty and heart wrenching ordeals they go through to keep warm, eat a meal and have a place to sleep. This part of the story will tug at your heart. I cried for him and what he went through. Dean’s character was determined to make something better of himself, he was studying for his GED and constantly going to the library to read and also to stay warm. He is not used to people doing something for him because they care so Anna and her prissy ways through him for a loop. When his way of life gets to dangerous and he thinks Dean thought it would be easier to walk away. Dean was not prepared for Anna, she had enough love for them both and she fights for them.

I loved how the author gradually develops their relationship. It is not hastily done, nothing is forced, it happens over time. She wrote a story that is current with today. There are tons of homeless young people living on the street not because of drugs but because of life’s circumstances. I really enjoyed every aspect of this story. I enjoyed how she shows Dean opening himself up to the possibility of a relationship and Anna seeing there is more to life if you step outside the box. Will Dean’s world prove to be too dangerous for Anna? Will Anna and Dean find true love despite the many challenges they face? I’d definitely recommend this one.

4 - 4.5 Stars in my Sky!

Oh Dean!! I really wasn't expecting this to be so emotional or so endearing! Home Is Where You Are covers some pretty traumatic and upsetting topics, but it's done with great sensitivity and charm!

I noticed another reviewer had commented on the book blurb underselling the story and I'm definitely have to agree. I had expected another YA story about an overachiever and a misunderstood bad boy. This couldn't have been further from the truth as Anna's achievements are the least of her appeal and Dean has far more important matters to consider than being a player. The same has been said about the cover. Yes, it's beautiful but it's only once you've read the book you understand the importance of the leaves. It's when you know Home Is Where You Are is more than a YA love story that the cover becomes very apt!

The book highlights the value of love and family. Life is hard, both Anna and Dean face a battle to survive, just in very different ways. Tessa Marie certainly puts her young characters through it, but she also offers them hope and love.

We're treated to split POV, which really helps to demonstrate their personal struggle. For the most part I was more drawn to Dean's story. This isn't to say I didn't care about Anna because I did. It's just Dean's life is so hard and so different from anything I've known, I couldn't help but focus upon it.

Dean struggles with the simple things most of us wouldn't even consider. This is highlighted whenever Anna would comment on something amiss in her life, then worry she was being insensitive. I ended up spending hours looking up how I could help teens like Dean, not through pity, but because I don't think any body should be in such a sad situation. I couldn't help but think about how young people are often failed by society (sorry about all the heavy).

Onto a more positive note: I loved the friendship between the MCs and seeing them take pleasure in such simple things. The banter between Dean and Anna was super sweet - I liked how he still managed to smile and flirt.

Home Is Where You Are also looks at conceptions and misjudgments. Anna never judges Dean by his situation and I think we could all learn something from her!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!
