Munster have confirmed that New Zealander Rob Penney will take over as their new head coach in the summer on a two-year deal.
Canterbury coach replaces McGahan
Munster have confirmed that Rob Penney will take over as their new head coach in the summer.
The 48-year-old has worked with Canterbury since 2006, coaching their ITM side to four consecutive titles while also working with the Crusaders development squad.
But Penney, who was also assistant coach of the Crusaders when they won the Super 12 title in 2005, will now complete his commitments with the New Zealand Under-20s squad at the IRB Junior World Championships before heading to Ireland.
Penney has agreed a two-year deal and replaces Australia-bound Tony McGahan at the helm.
Munster chief executive Garrett Fitzgerald said: "We conducted a thorough search to find a replacement for Tony McGahan and were delighted with the calibre of the candidates.
"Rob Penney's record speaks for itself and we look forward to welcoming him to Munster."
Former Ireland international Anthony Foley will remain as forwards coach, although other changes to the back-room staff will be finalised following consultation with Penney.
