Description

The CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) is launching its fifth round of the IHDCYH Talks Video Competition, a unique opportunity to submit short videos (recommended maximum length of 5 minutes) sharing evidence-based messages in the area of maternal, reproductive, child and youth health. This competition encourages the production of videos that present a clear evidence-based message to a lay audience that is designed to have a positive impact on the health of children, youth and families.

This competition is soliciting videos not just from members of the research community, but also more widely from non-governmental or not-for-profit organizations (including community or charitable organizations), as well as members of the general public who are able to demonstrate a clear, evidence-based message related to IHDCYH's mandate.

Successful videos will be posted on CIHR and IHDCYH social media and shared through other communications channels. It is important that the content be engaging, easily understood and accessible to a lay audience.

Funds Available

CIHR and partner(s) financial contributions for this initiative are subject to availability of funds. Should CIHR or partner(s) funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, CIHR and partner(s) reserve the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to awards received as a result of this funding opportunity.

Eligibility

Eligibility to Apply

For an application to be eligible:

  1. The Nominated Principal Applicant must be one of the following:
    1. An independent researcher
    2. A knowledge user
    3. A trainee
    4. A representative from a Canadian non-governmental or not-for-profit organization (including community or charitable organizations) with an explicit health research or knowledge translation element within their mandate. (Note: If the prize money is meant to be awarded to an organization—as opposed to an individual—then the organization should be listed under "Name of Applicant" on the application form).
    5. A member of the general public who is able to demonstrate a clear, evidence-based message related to IHDCYH's mandate.
  2. The individuals appearing in the video must sign and be identified in a Consent Form. A form is provided for your convenience (see Task Download Supplemental Application Material) but other forms are accepted. If individuals cannot provide consent, e.g. passers-by on the street, then their appearance must be concealed such that they are unrecognizable.
  3. Content that does not originate from the applicant's team is acceptable for inclusion with appropriate consent, but should be clearly placed into context and should not be the predominant theme.
  4. Applicants are eligible to submit a new or existing video. It is suggested that the video is no more than 5 minutes in length. Videos that have been awarded a prize in a previous IHDCYH Talks Video Competition will not be accepted.
