The 2019 IHE-Europe Symposium, supported by COCIR, took place at the Couvent des Jacobins on 9 April covering the hottest of topics - “Moving Forward Digital Health with Cybersecurity”. Delegates witnessed some excellent presentations following introductions from the IHE-Europe Co-Chairs and Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General.

Keynotes from the European Commission set the tone for the day looking at Strategy, New Trends and Security aspects for IHE-Centered deployments:  Costica Dumbrava, EC DG CONNECT, spoke on the Priorities on Digital Transformation of Health and Care and Salvatore Scalzo, EC DG GROW, remotely delivered his presentation on the Future Impact of Medical Device Regulations and Cybersecurity.
 
The morning continued with interesting industry presentations from Ben Kokx, Philips and Charles Parisot, IHE-Europe respectively looking at Cybersecurity across the Healthcare Continuum and Cybersecurity for Health Information Exchange.
 
Pre-lunch Klàra Jirakova, Vysočina Regional Authority, gave an excellent presentation on Cross Border eHealth Information Service and Slawomir Gorniak, ENISA (EU Agency for Network and Information Security) shared plans from ENISA on the Cybersecurity Act and certification process to complete a packed and intense morning.
 
In introducing the afternoon session Symposium Chairman, Paul Whitehead, IHE-Europe, reminded delegates that the afternoon would conclude with an opportunity to tour the Connectathon floor, observe the testing first-hand and to see three Projectathons taking place from France and Switzerland.

This afternoon session was anchored by Yacine Tamoudi, Kereval who looked at Leveraging the IHE Audit Trail for Real-Time Intrusion Detection and concluded with first-class presentations from Eamon Coyne of Health Service Executive Ireland and Karima Bouquard, IHE-Europe looking at EUROCAS, Its Benefits and the Next Steps respectively.

Commenting on the 2019 IHE-Europe Symposium Jürgen Brandstätter, vendor co-chair, said, “We were delighted with the turnout for this very important topic. It showed how significant Cybersecurity is in the Health IT world and how important it is for users and suppliers to look at tackling the issues together. It is entirely appropriate that IHE has an important role to play and I am certain that along with the proactive stance from the EU that we will keep ahead in this challenging environment. I thank all delegates for attending.’’
