"Of Land & Local: Watershed" Art Exhibition
9/29/2016 - 10/23
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Daily
Coach Barn Shelburne FarmsShelburneProperty admission - $8 adults; $6 senior; $5 children 3-17; free to children under 3, Shelburne Farms members, Burlington City Arts members, and Shelburne residents. Now entering its fourth year, “Of Land and Local: Watershed” continues its commitment to the creation of new work through site-specific and place-based art-making and community programming that encourages critical dialogue. This coming August marks five years since Tropical Storm Irene hit Vermont. Water, as both an ecological fact and metaphor, will be the subject of this year's Of Land & Local exhibitions. Here in Vermont, while the effects of agriculture and climate change experienced through the Champlain Basin and traumatic flooding continue to reinforce our need for water resiliency, our lakes, rivers, and snow also represent the beauty and leisure that is an important element of the Vermont identity and economy. The increasing awareness of water highlights the complicated place it has in our world; both its necessity for sustaining life and the destructive power of water are overwhelmingly present in the history and future of Vermont.

GEOMORPH / Things Change, and They Change Again
8/18/16 Ongoing
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tuesday - Saturday
Vermont Folklife Center headquarters building at 88 Main Street in Middlebury.
MiddleburyThe signature GEOMORPH piece is complemented by materials in the adjoining rooms—then and now photographs, archival footage, candid snapshots of volunteers, scrapbook materials, interviews with Triebert, and an interactive makers component—that invite visitors to explore the progression that lead her to, and through, the creation of this work. Triebert graciously welcomes this inquiry into her process—and in sharing her own experience, gives visitors an intimate point of reference to reflect on how Vermonters across the state responded to, recovered from, and moved on from Tropical Storm Irene. A reception and artist talk will be held on October 6th from 5:30-7PM at the Vermont Folklife Center.
