The Oregon College Savings Plan's safest investment fund will see a lower return this year. But it will likely be higher than any comparably safe college investment you can make.
The plan's
generated a 2.33% one-year return through March 31, 2012,
. Between April 1 and March 31, 2013, the option will generate a 1.75% return, plan manager
.
That's still likely better than what you will get in a money market fund or CD of the same duration. This option is still an excellent one for account owners whose kids will enter college soon. Unfortunately, only about 3,000 of you had a total of just more than $30 million in that portfolio. That's about $10,000 per investor.
Remember, the option guarantees you will always recover your initial investment AND get a guaranteed rate of return. Investors couldn't even get that with the plan's Money Market option,
just more than a year ago.
