STAND AGAINST RACISM:

Immigrant Justice Advocacy Forum

Immigrant justice is racial justice!

Join us for an afternoon of awareness-raising and calls-to-action from local experts and activists who work supports the immigrant population of the Capital Region.

STAND AGAINST RACISM is a signature campaign of YWCA USA, held at over 200 sites annually, across the nation. In 2019 we unite around the theme of immigrant justice. Today, immigrant rights are under attack. As with other manifestations of racism, anti-immigrant attitudes, policies, and laws are both historically rooted and increasingly visible and harmful in our current environment. Threats to economic stability, physical safety, and basic human dignity are particularly acute for women, girls, and immigrants of color.

The afternoon's program includes:

"Who's Your Neighbor?" A reflective discussion exploring the intersectionalities of immigrants through storytelling facilitated by Christa Grant, Director of Siena's Damietta Cross-Cultural Center

"The History of Immigration in America" by Julina Guo, Immigration Law Staff Attorney at Albany Law School. Ms. Guo will highlight the role racism has played in US immigration policies.

"Igniting Advocacy for Immigrants" a panel discussion facilitated by Amy Jones, Community Organizer at Citizen Action! New York. Panelists include:

Dalila Yeend, Troy resident, immigrant, and activist

Jinah Kim, Owner, Sunhee's Farm & Kitchen and supporter of immigrants and refugees

Dahlia Herring, racial justice advocate, community volunteer, and co-chair of Capital Region Refugee Roundtable

Jarin Ahmed, Muslim-American activist with Columbia County Sanctuary Movement

Unite with a community of people who are taking a STAND AGAINST RACISM -- together we can build stronger communities and create systemic change to eliminate racism.
