An easy read...

This is my first read from this author and I honestly enjoyed the story. Though not as melodramatic as other young adult coming out stories, and a bit riddled with typos, the story was cute. I did think the Danika angle was under written and incomplete but that's just me. It's free with kU so that's a big plus. Overall, I give it 3.5*

They spiked her drink and everyone just brushed it off like it's NOTHING. I got so mad, I can't even begin to explain it.

Read this online few years back. I was really excited when the author announced that she will publish her book.

Joey as a blonde Kristen Steward and I totally forgot who’s her partner as Olivia. There’s still minor errors from the book but its okay.
I still enjoyed this one so much! A light and easy read.
I do really like Olivia and Joey I wish this was longer. A few more added bonus chapter perhaps?
And for me, I rarely like a HFN ending because I do like Epilogues, cliches and all that. 😁

I miss reading YA :((

Tone is all over the place, characters are one-note, and spelling/grammar is atrocious. The plot is weak and even though no ages are states, by the fact that they're driving unaccompanied, they should be about seventeen or sixteen however they come across as much younger. There's an incredibly problematic and abusive home life of the main character which never really gets a focus until the rushed ending and a (attempted) sexual assault which gets downplayed as "harassment." Nope, YA readers deserve better than this.

I'm all for sweet and fluffy romances but when you're dealing with serious issues like abuse and sexual assault, it should be given the time and attention it deserves. Sadly, this did not happen. There's not point introducing those elements if it's not going to be explored at all.

As I’m rereading this book, I start to remember all the reasons I fell in love with it when I first read it on Wattpad two years ago. I can’t wait to read the published version. Especially because Athena has made this book and its journey one that all of her readers have taken with her and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it all (:

If this is intended for a young audience, then I am not the intended audience. I found the characters lacked depth and pacing meant sections felt slow. I thought YA meant mains were YA, not that the novel was written differently. Obviously the voice is different with different speech patterns and sometimes words but the basic bones of a novel are there, so I saw no reason to think this was not for me. It wasn’t but that doesn’t mean you might not like it. For me, it was 2.5, I would have liked more, more depth, more understanding and to be honest more rounded characters. However……. To be that age, and see myself on print, that may be worth the half star upgrade. As a mature lady, 2.5. I’ll up it to 3, slightly unwillingly but I did get more enjoyment towards the end.

"Kissing Olivia Winchester" is an easy, insightful and humorous YA read revolving around 17 year old Josephine's life after an unexpected kiss from the most popular girl in school Olivia Winchester...I really like the premise and format of this one, but SO wish editing was more of a priority and that there was a bit more depth of feel.

Honestly I'm still reading this over and over again because of its wonderful characters and writing. I think this story is beautiful. I wish I could have something like this book happen to me. This is bliss.

Disappointed. I thought it would be cleaned up. Too many grammar mistakes.

On the right track but not quite there.

It was an easy and quick read. I liked how it showed the complications of society but the normalization of their relationship at the same time.

Lots of grammar mistakes within the book though. I wish there could have been an actual resolution between Danika and Olivia. An actual conversation between them would have been good because what happened fully between them still confuses me between all the “she said, she said” stuff.
I wish the dad was in at least one scene before the end. It didn’t make sense at all because the readers didn’t know where he stood on anything or that he even really existed...? He can’t be a completely absent parent and then suddenly say he knows his daughter, even in the slightest.
Joey was waaaay too ok with her sister (she wasn’t that close with originally) and her best friend not telling her they were dating and also by the fact that they were dating! I had something similar happen to me and it was definitely NOT as simple or easy as it was made to seem.
The thing lacking the most and saddened me the most! Was that there was no response from classmates or students from their school once they officially were a couple! 2 women who never spent time together and were on complete opposite ends of the school hierarchy are dating. Olivia isn’t even eating with her friends at lunch anymore and no response from anyone?

I did think the story idea was amazing and it gave me chills during the first kiss moment, even the second, and continuing to the third. But there was just a bit lacking in the book.

One of those silly little books that remind me of a chick flick. It was cute and fun to read, and so easy that I read it in a couple hours. Definitely the perfect vacation book (at least coming from a person who’s actively on vacation.) There were a few things I didn’t love. Olivia’s whole liking Joey thing was so out of the blue and random- it was cute but it just didn’t seem to come from anywhere. Second, the dialogue killed me. It didn’t flow like an actual human being would say it and I found myself cringing every time I read it. Finally, the ending. Everything happened so fast and I was so confused. It felt like it was totally rushed through just to create some tension because in the end it felt like I was picked up by a tornado and dropped back down having no concept of time. Overall, fun, decent book. Cute and sweet but nothing suuuuuper special.

Really enjoyed this YA book. The actions of the characters we very real and easy to relate to. The book needed better editting in places but one could overlook these little slips because the story was so cute and they did not draw attention away from the main romance between Joey and Olivia. Looking forward to reading further adventures of Joey and Olivia in this series.

As an additional coment, I also enjoyed the growing romance between Gwen and Neal. Joey's home family life is so disjointed that it is great to see that she learns that some individuals in her family can come together and try to achieve happiness. Along with some members of the family pulling together best friends and special friends can survive when the outside world seems to crumble around you.

Just by her name, I knew I would love Olivia Winchester, she's so lovely and caring and nice! She puts so much effort into knowing Joey, who's rather guarded.

Joey was so shyyyy at first but when she got comfortable she started to put effort too, I melted when she won that stuffed bunny for Olivia.

They're such a cute couple, I loved them together. The bonus chapters I found, "Love at first kiss" and "Nerveous and angry feelings" with Olivia's POV helped me understand why Olivia fell so hard. Damn she was whipped. Stinking CUTE!

The last chapters of this book felt kind of rushed, I needed at least one or two more for closure, them being happy together at school or someting, but I Iiked the rest of it so much it's still a 5⭐one.

I absolutely fell in love with this book, not only is the plot enticing but the writing style is beautiful. This book will put you in a trance making it impossible to put down with lovable characters, great humor and just the right amount of drama. A well balanced book concentrating on young love, figuring ones's self out, trust, friendship, family issues and more. It will take you on an emotional roller coaster but one you will thoroughly enjoy all the way.

I absolutely loved this book! I’ve had this book in my library for a while and decided to read all one day. I have to say that those hours of not studying just to read a book was worth it! There were a couple of grammar issues, but it didn’t matter because of the unique plot. Throughout the whole book, my senses were heightened, and I felt MANY things for this book.

I’m very sure that I’m going to be buying a book, but I live in the United States so it’ll be a little before I’m going to. I want to treasure the book as one of the books that represents LGBT for its part.

Thank you very much for your effort in creating the book and using your own finances to get it out!

So Cute

I really enjoyed this story! The way the characters are with each other is so cute! I’m glad Gwen started paying more attention to her sister and sticking up for her. Their mother is such a royal b*tch. Omg! I wanted someone to put her in her place and the father finally stepping up was not enough. 😂 But I feel like the book just cut off so suddenly. I was so sad! Like that’s it?

Also, there are so many tiny little editing errors around the middle to the end that were distracting but easy fixes. That’s the only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars. Other than that the story was so damn cute! I will definitely be re-reading this eventually. 🙂

This was a super cute high school love story.

Quirky loner girl gets made over (thanks mom) and popular girl has to find out who she is.
The only hitch is that this meeting happens at a kissing booth and popular girl (Olivia) can't get our heroine Joey out of her head. She's gone in a kiss.

Joey doesn't know why, but Olivia starts hanging around and wanting to get to know her, to spend time with her... this is just weird. But how Olivia goes about doing it is the sweetest swooniest way ever!!! I wish I'd had an Olivia when i was in high school.

There's some drama (of course) involving former friends and family and self doubt... it's just a great mix for the perfect high school coming of age, self discovery, falling in love-iest story.

Great job on the narration in this audiobook. I had a blast listening to Joey's inner workings brought to life.

Reading this book, I found myself. I really did. I can relate to Josephine in the way she is heavily judged by her mother because of her looks and demeanor. As a closeted bisexual, this book is really special to me. I know it’s just a book, but to me, it’s everything. I can just think about everything in this book and I’ll always feel like crying because I will always understand the struggle of being who I want to be while everyone else is still against that. Also, if Kissing Olivia Winchester gets its well deserved movie adaptation, I’m ready to watch it more than I should.

When I first read this book months ago I was immediately enchanted. Though short, it was nice and sweet, something I haven't seen yet while on Wattpad. It perfectly captured my attention with the characters and the whole plot of the story, so I kept waiting in anticipation to press that 'Continue to The Next Part' button and just from that I knew why it was a very popular story.

I wish only the best for the author, Athena, and her journey with this book and the potential of it becoming a movie!

This is one of those classic "I kissed the popular girl in school and now she wants me" stories, except this is retold with female leads and typical homophobic parent of one of the pair.

It's because it is a classic, so people still like these kinds of stories, myself included. I downrated this to 4 stars due to the typos, grammar and tenses mistakes in the story, plus the near one-dimensional antagonist of the story (I mean the homophobic mom, if you're wondering).

But other than that, overall, this was a satisfying read.

This story is overall adorable. I finished it in about 2 days and I can say that I enjoyed it a lot. I love Olivia as a character and she is definitely my favorite in the book. Her relationship with Joey is so cute. I love their moments together.

The only thing I wish I saw more is the abuse and sexual harassment that was just touched upon a tiny bit and more exploration of the relationship between Joey and her horrible mother, as well as more scenes with Danika. Other than that everything was great and I enjoyed it.

Seriously, you had an editor?

I almost couldn’t finish this book. There were far too many dropped words and grammatical errors. I was honestly shocked to read the acknowledgements and learn there was an agent and editor for this book. How could they let so many errors through? I guess the story wasn’t too bad. Which is why it is getting two stars instead of only one. I just had a hard time sticking with it, because of all those glaring editing errors.

I am giving this book five stars as the author delivers. she has produced the book I was looking to read when I saw the title "Kissing Olivia Winchester". I loved Olivia and Joey and their cute relationship. I don't want angst and contrived breakup-makeups I just want to feel good about the story and I did.
Recommended for a good light read and for all those complaining folks who wanted something else - Tolstoy is in the Russian literature section.

Loved it

God, i wish i was growing up now and not 50+ years ago. Im so glad things are changing slowly, but surely. I know its still not great, but its toierable. I know kids are still thrown away amd disowned, but at least you can survive hihh school... Somewhat. I loved this book for both the characters and its look at the angst of modern gay teens.

So I have been reading several YA books of late but most dont read that way. This one on the other hand did. I also found it read really long and could not help but skim a bit as I tried..yes tried to near the end. needed to be edited down I think and also for those that care many errors. 3 stars rounded up
