Legal #3

Love, Luck, and Clusterf*ck

Rate this book
Would you give up your best friend for one night of passion?

From the author of the Legal series comes a hot and hilarious new STANDALONE.

I met him on the luckiest day of the year.

Of course, I wasn’t aware of his true identity at the time. I only knew him as the arrogant blond god who gave me a shamrock necklace. For luck.

As if I needed it.

Okay, maybe I did. But it was presumptuous of him to assume I wanted his help – all because he made it his business to pry into my personal conversation.

I, Perry Sommers, want a life makeover.

I want to stop being so impulsive and start acting like a grown up.

I want to settle down and have a real relationship, instead of a series of clusterf*cks.

I want to fall in love. Just not with this man.

But love isn’t fair. It doesn’t care if someone is off-limits, and Stephen Davidson definitely is. I can handle that. Our intense chemistry tests me on a near constant basis. I can handle that too.

What I can’t handle is how much I’ve come to need him in my life. I never expected this infuriating hard-ass to become my best friend, but now that he has, I never want to let him go.

I can’t destroy the bond we share, but there is only so much a woman can take before she breaks.

Before she throws it all away for one perfect night.

** This friends to lovers standalone takes place six years before Legal. It does not need to be read in conjunction with the others in the series. **

Before I start this I just want to thank Bree for the ARC. I am a huge fan og Legal and Lyrical. So this story was huge for me. #breesarockstar
Perry is by far one of the fussiest charterers I have read in a loooong time. I love her take no shit from anyone attitude, she also has on filter. So be careful when your around her.
Stephen made me laugh but I also liked the secure feeling I got off of him. In my opinion it was love at first sight for him. And believe that's saying something......Yes this book really gave me the feelsI loved their ALMOST as much as Chase and Jillians

Bree had me hooked from the beginning, all the way to the end! This book is Perry and Stephen's story. It happens 6 years prior to Legal. It can be read as a standalone or as part of the Legal Series.

Perry is trying to get life together. She finally found a job that is she is extremely great at. She has a bunch of wonderful friends and well a "boyfriend", Dre. Their relationship is always on again off again, she is unable to really make the attempt to be in it. And the same goes for him. Perry has absolutely no filter, and says the craziest, sometimes most hilarious things.

Stephen is a in charge of the developing department of FiTech. He comes off like a player (Perry's perspective), but in all actuality he's a genuinely sweet guy. He is know for being compared to "Thor". Which means he's perfect and has an incredible body.

Perry and her best friend, Christa, are out celebrating St. Patrick's Day, when a handsome stranger, Stephen tells her Dre is a loser. When they are leaving, he puts a four leaf clover necklace around Perry's neck. Well little did she know, this man would factor more into her life than she thought. Her relationship with Dre was hitting a stalemate, he would say things but not come through with them. Perry didn't seem to really be bothered by it. At work one day, the man in charge of her department had a family emergency and in walks "Thor". She was speechless! As the story builds, they start to form a friendship, putting all Perry's sayings behind them. After discovering Dre in a pretty bad, no turning back situation, Perry turns to Stephen. But he appears to be unavailable. At work, her co-workers and Stephen all notice that Perry isn't herself. Stephen sets out to fix it and Perry goes, because what else has she got to lose. Stephen proves to her that she can really rely on him and he learns a lot more about her. He remembers everything she says! (Swoon)

Can they open up to each other and admit feeling a for one another? Does Perry walk away because it's a committed relationship? Will Stephen be the person Perry's been looking for?

Bree told a funny and romantic story of Perry and Stephen. I loved that Perry got her story! I can't wait to see what Bree has in store for us next. Excellent book that I highly recommend, along with Legal and Lyrical!

Love, Luck, and Clusterf*ck by Bree Dahlia is the Third book in the "Legal" series. This is the story of Perry Sommers and Stephen Davidson. I haven't yet read the other books in this series, so for me this was a standalone book with no issues.
Perry was in a relationship with a man named Dre for about 5 years but he was a piece of work for sure! Perry and Stephen met during St Patrick's Day while she was having drinks with her friends. There Stephen gave her a Shamrock necklace where Perry shrugs it off but keeps it. When Perry is in need of a friend Stephen happens to fit that but they end up building the friendship into love.

the writing in this series is so down-to-earth, I literally found myself laughing out loud multiple times. after reading ‘legal’ and ‘lyrical’, I almost didn’t venture into book 3, but when the lightbulb lit that every woman needs a perry in their life, I couldn’t buy book 3 fast enough. well worth the hours spent reading.

I had such a soft spot for jillian and chase, that I just didn’t think perry and stephen could match that. but perry is what made books 1/2 so hilarious for me. a true ride or die friend her life is a clusterf*uck, until her and stephen get it together, and it doesn’t go in a straight line to hea, but they get there.

exceptional writing to keep the reader engaged and wanting to see what happens next.

ps1-I actually grew up in milwaukee (shout out) go figure.

ps2- my review on amazon was initially rejected because I used the word clusterf*uck, so i had to edit that word out. go figure that too.

If you've read Legal and Lyrical, then you've met Perry, the loud-mouthed, true friend woman. Perry is a hoot and this is (finally) her story and how she met Jillian's brother, Stephen. The road was not easy as Perry was dating a d*ckwad, Dre. Stephen became her friend to keep close to her and Perry needed a friend. Bree has a unique writing style...one that creates real situations with real people, sprinkled with humor and sexy scenes. I can't wait to see how else she continues this series!

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

I will be honest...I'm a whiney brat. I saw that this wasn't going to be Jillian after I signed up to read it and sulked. I wasn't against throwing a tantrum either because I need more. However, I can say with a big ol' smile on my face I'm glad I did.

I loved learning more about the wildly, untamed Perry. I loved learning Stephen is not only hot but doesn't actually have a stick up his a$$. So no disappointment at all!

I'm no longer whining and now even more jazzed up about the next book. Just give us more Perry unfiltered!

This was an excellent comedy/romance story, and was so hard to put down that I read until 2am... I am really tired now!!!

I really enjoyed the great storyline and twists and turns it contained, as well as compelling characters - that you sometimes wanted to shake.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes to laugh along with their romance.

I adore this series, though I still have some catch up. This is by far my favorite book. This is slow burn/friendship done right! Well written with fabulous characters. You’re so invested you want to go to Wisconsin to befriend them. The story is sweet and satisfying after much anticipation. You should read and you won’t regret it. Truly a stand alone, in fact starting with this book might be best.

I'm always a sucker for a friends to lovers book. This was a good one. It all started on the luckiest day of the year. I will say that I really dislike Dre a lot. I really liked Perry and Stephen though. I'm so glad the they crossed paths. I really felt for Perry. Life is given her the worst luck, but it just may be turning around. One of my favorite things was the humor and banter between Stephen and Perry. The story had a good flow that kept me intrigued.

I was very lucky to win a copy of this book through GR! This book is the perfect blend of humor and reality, with moments everyone can relate to. Perry and Stephen are a wonderful leading couple and take this friends to lovers romance to the perfect level. While it's a little slow in the beginning and Perry can make some frustrating choices, it's still very worth the read!

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, Legal, and Lyrical. And while this book takes place in the same world, it is definitely not one you have to read the other two before. I was very excited for this story because you really get to know Perry in the first two books, and it was a lot of fun getting to see how she actually got together with Jillian's brother Stephen. I mean, you really do love Perry in the first two books. At least I pretty much did.

Ms. Dahlia’s Legal series continues with this prequel that presents readers with the story behind super couple Perry and Stephen. It’s a romance full of charm and lots of sexual tension that stands nicely on its own but is an immensely satisfying addition to the series that endears these characters to us all the more. It may start off a bit slow, with moments of frustration that made me groan, but by the latter half of the story I was all-in and furiously turning the pages hoping to see a HEA before The End.

In the Legal series, Perry is the friend of older woman Jillian, and is very much her opposite. She’s the outspoken one with no filter who you can’t help but laugh at as she barrels through life. Readers get to see a younger version of Perry here, one not as self-assured and too willing to just settle. For years she’d been in a relationship with a man that was of the on-again off-again variety. A relationship that was not wholly satisfying but one she was willing to become committed to. That decision changed everything though as it showed her the true colors of the man she just committed to as well as learning the truth about her best friend Christa. These discoveries were heartbreaking and Perry’s response to them was a bit tamer than I’d hoped. It forced her into action though, forced her out of her complacency and into the supportive arms of new friend/boss Stephen. From their first meeting it’s clear that they’re a combustible couple who goad each other in oh so many subtle ways. It’s also clear that she’s falling for him, despite desperately trying to keep him in the friendzone. Jealousy quickly rears its ugly head in hilarious, yet frustrating, ways that had me rooting for her to finally give in to the sweet and sexy Stephen before reaching an immensely satisfying conclusion. Perry’s a good friend, supportive and protective of those she claims as hers. She’s full of energy and righteous indignation and is more than willing to stand up for her beliefs. She’s a bit lost though, a bit uncertain when it comes to her life and future. She flits from job to job, but knows it’s time to start becoming an adult. That belief is what drove her to committing to a man clearly not right for her, but it’s what ultimately led her to Stephen and a connection that brought a smile to my face.

Stephen’s the proverbial good guy. He’s a loving son and brother and is self-assured when it comes to his job. When it comes to love though, he’s been unlucky as he’s not found the right girl to commit to. The moment he sees Perry is the moment he sees his forever and from that moment on he worms his way into her life in a way that had me cheering him on. Stephen makes it clear how much he cares for Perry through many sweet words and deeds and is willing to be in the friendzone while she nurses her bruised heart and soul. But the moment he finally gets everything he’s longed for, frustrating misunderstandings rip it away. He still shows his good guy qualities though by continuing to be Perry’s protector and by being the first to admit his feelings which made me love him all the more. Throughout this book series readers never learned much about Stephen other than his issues with his older sister’s relationship with a younger man, but here we get to humanize him and find a man worthy of our admiration. He loved Perry from the first page to the last and his words and deeds made this a very romantic story.

Perry and Stephen were an entertaining couple with a crackling connection full of witty banter and unrelenting sexual tension. Their journey from frienemies to friends to lovers went on a bit too long but it ultimately led to an immensely satisfying HEA that had me cheering. Surrounding this likable couple was a colorful cast of secondary characters who propelled this story towards its delightful conclusion. Among my favorites were Perry’s co-workers, Adam and Kate, both playful and supportive to their new friend. They were larger than life and I could easily see them as my friends too. Two other characters, Dre and Christa, greatly disappointed me though. Both appeared to be supportive of Perry, but behind their friendly facade they were anything but and I hated them for what they did. Perry deserved better. All of these bold characters made this story even stronger though, despite my anger with some, and pulled me in to these character’s lives completely. After the satisfying conclusion I found here I’m left greatly anticipating what Ms. Dahlia has planned next and highly recommend this series to others!

Perry is an impulsive, outspoken, immature woman enjoying short term romantic liaisons and a somewhat wild lifestyle. She doesn't seem willing or capable of committing to anything or anyone. She tends to drink too much and lets her mouth get ahead of her brain on a regular basis, creating a series of hilarious situations that she has difficulty extricating herself from. She finally finds a job that she enjoys, rather than another few-month gig that she tires of quickly to move on to the next thing. She begins to realize that it's time to turn over a new leaf and try to build some permanence into her life - a steady job being at the top of the list - so that she can begin to feel like more of a responsible adult. She craves more stability and something that she cannot put her finger on - perhaps healthy relationships?

Her on again, off again lover Dre suddenly decides that he wants to be exclusive and try to create a relationship with her. Perry agrees, thinking she should give it a chance, but isn't happy with her decision or her boyfriend. Something keeps holding her back, perhaps it's his callousness to her feelings or his unhealthy bond with his truck. When she meets Stephen, she feels an immediate attraction to him, but pushes him away vehemently to try to work on her relationship with Dre, such as it is. Stephen is instantly drawn to Perry and continues to try to get to know her as they repeatedly run into one another in a variety of places. Through a coincidence, Perry's new job is at the same company that Stephen works for. This gives Stephen the opportunity to get to know Perry. His feelings for her continue to grow, and he supports her through a series of deceptions and betrayals in her personal life that leave her devastated. As their friendship grows, he realizes that Perry has become the most important person in his world and wants so much more from her. Perry is hesitant as Stephen has become her best friend and she values that relationship too much jeopardize it by rushing into a romantic affair with him.

Steadfast in his affection for Perry, Stephen helps her through a difficult time in her life, respecting the lines Perry has drawn. Through her relationship with Stephen, Perry begins to mature and realize that she wants more with Stephen as well. His continued loving support allows her to create new and healthier relationships and grow up into the adult she wants to be.

That growth is not without challenges, however. Her impulsiveness and immaturity continue to peek through now and again, leading to a series of misunderstandings that threaten to destroy their relationship. Can she work through her own issues and allow her relationship with Stephen evolve into something more meaningful? While intimacy terrifies her, Perry isn't willing to let Stephen go. She must be willing to take a leap of faith and trust that Stephen won't follow in the footsteps of her previous relationships and betray her. The chemistry and devotion between the two is intense and I was happy to see Perry grow into a more mature and responsible adult. I was rooting for the pair to get their happily ever after.

This is a fun, quirky and touching romance. I laughed out loud at parts of it and will likely look for the other books in the series.

This is a voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

I received and ARC copy of this book with no obligation to leave my honest review.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I did really enjoy her writing style. I maybe would have liked to hear from Stephan a bit more often but what we did get was good.
This is book 3 and where I've started from so I have no real reference to where these characters fit into the series storyline but it honestly didn't matter as you can easy follow along. It was a little slow to begin with but didn't take long to pick up and become more enjoyable.
Stephan was a very sexy and likeable guy and once he got over his initial cockiness was a really great friend to Perry. I love a good friends to lovers tale and Stephan was a such a wonderful and supportive friend that you couldn't help but love him and understand Perry's hesitation to take their friendship to the next level.
Perry was a bit of a firecracker and made me laugh on a few occasions. Even though on a few occasions her decisions made me grit my teeth for being so silly but overall a very likable young women trying to make the best decisions for herself.
Lots of funny secondary characters like her co-workers and some not so nice ones in the forms of her supposedly best friend and on again, off again boyfriend. It was a little predictable that he would cheat on Perry and not really surprising with who he cheated with.
Overall a great book and I enjoyed reading Stephan and Perry's journey to their HEA!

4.5 stars. I really liked this book and I found some parts very funny. Perry the h tried very hard to make a crummy relationship work - I wonder if that was a reflection on some people who stay way too long in an unhappy or incompatible relationship. I liked both characters, though I would have liked a firmer take on her age, which I assume was 22 as her best friend who she went to school was that age. I liked both the H and h and their characters seemed pretty developed, though Stephen could have used a little more development to get a fuller picture of him. The only part of the story I struggled with, was how hard Dre pushed for a committed relationship. The first half of the story did at times seem like there were unnecessary scenes, but later in the book you realize why there were there. Overall, an engaging story, that lets you see how and why the H&h fell in love. *I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Perry and Stephen and Dre and Crista and Adam and Kate and ..... Perry had a lot of friends and each one had their own story. Crista was Perry's roommate and best friend. Dre was her on again off again boyfriend. Adam and Kate were friends from work. Stephen she ran into at a bar "Lucky's". After that she kept running into him here and there. Then she found out he was a big shot where she worked. When Dre asked Perry to become exclusive, she said yes but her heart was not in it. She just did not know it yet, but she was more attracted to Stephen and was getting to know him and started to like him way too much. The rest of the story tells of Beach of the relationships and how they affected her and Stephen. A very good read.

The characters in this story were so great that they drew me in from the beginning. Perry and Stephan were fun together, from the very beginning where he told her that she deserved better than her current relationship and gave her a clover necklace "for luck," to the interoffice memos warning her off flirting with other employees to his heroic search for spiders... Although this story was book 3 in the series, you don't have to read the other ones first. But if you haven't read them, you'll want to go back and devour the first two - just like I do!

Horrible Characters

Had to stop reading this book as not one of the main characters came over as being anything but horrible. Perry I'm guessing is supposed to be free spirited and willing to speak her mind. However she comes over as sarcastic, fouled mouthed and hard to please. Her room mate just comes over as put simply a slut. Stephen, the 'love interest' is obsessive, controlling and harassess Perry. And Dre, Perry's boy friend at the start of the book is a sniviling little liar.

The story could have been the romance equivalent of Shakespeare or Dickens but the horrible characters simply overwhelmed any possible enjoyment of the story.

Penny is given a necklace on st Patrick's day by a strange guy and is told that legend holds that whoever gives a token that night will be true. She thinks nothing of it but takes it home and keeps it. Then her world is torn apart and Stephen is there to pick up the pieces. This was a great friends to lover story with some of our favorite Legal characters although this book can be read completely alone. Ms. Dahlia description of places and people make you feel like you are right there enjoying it. This is a great read for anyone who loves friends to lovers books.

This is the 3rd book in the series, l have not read the first two books.

Perry and Dru have been friends with benefits for the last 5 years. Dru wants them to settle down into a relationship. Perry is struggling with this relationship and meets Stephen in a bar, she fobs him off but he keeps showing up. He is the owner of the company she works for.

I found this book slow and the characters were annoying to me.

I really tried hard not to give up on this story, but I pushed thru and finished it. It dragged on an on before Perry and Stephen actually hooked up, it took so long that I lost interest. I didn't think it was necessary to drag on the relationship between Perry and Dre that was torture, I wasn't surprised to find out that Dre and Christa were hooking up, and hated how naive Perry was when it came to her best friend, all the signs where there that Christa was not a trustworthy friend.
I wouldn't recommend this book, it was my first and last book from this author.

Page and chapter. It took me a while to get into the story. Just my opinion. I've liked Brew Daniel's Legal series. This was not like the first to books. I read then flipped pages without missing much about what was happening. Ill definitely read more of her stories. Perry is stuck in a relationship going nowhere when she meets Stephen, her interim boss. They go through a lot of miscues and misunderstandings before settling in and being friends and then lovers. The plot twists and turns so much. I was frustrated with Perry for awhile, but was finally glad to see her stand up for herself. Good read with lots of drawn out angst.

I absolutely adore this book! I've laughed so hard in parts and wanted to break down in tears in others. The things she endures is just horrid, but having him be there as a close friend really made things better on so many levels. This is a slow cooker of a romance.... I liked how Bree Dahlia builds Perry's character and shows us the problems in her relationship with Dre. The comparison between the past and how Stephen woos her through the plot was REAL. Night and day. Stephen is a knight in shining armor - but they do have flaws (the clusterf*ck portion)

This wasn't for me. Perry was too impulsive and immature for me to like or care about her. She was basically repulsed by the touch of her on again off again guy and yet didn't think to break up with him. And to me Stephen was just some faceless dude.
