About this event

Abstract:

The modification of our environment through architecture and design bears great responsibility for human well-being, human productivity and social cohesion. Designers of every discipline should therefore professionally consider all functional and aesthetic aspects of human needs, which requires design-relevant knowledge from many disciplines, especially psychology. The scientific understanding of aesthetic experience as the embodied integration of emotion, cognition and perception into a holistic, atmospherically interactive continuum has developed rapidly in recent years, opening up broad fields of reference for human-centered architecture and design theory. In order to interconnect this essential knowledge and also implement it in architectural and design practice and education, we need synergetic structures and models of a metadisciplinary aesthetics.

Speaker's bio:

Born in Munich, Michael Heinrich studied stage/costume design at the University Mozarteum, Salzburg. Working for municipal and stately opera houses and theatres throughout Germany and Europe, he extended his activities into architectural and interior design and was eventually appointed professor at Coburg University. Exploring the theoretical aspects of architectural and design aesthetics, he received his PhD in Psychological Aesthetics/ Human Biology from renowned neuroscientist Ernst Poeppel, Munich University LMU, and has since been working on integrative theoretical concepts for metadisciplinary aesthetics and their application, e.g. for Fraunhofer Institute Group, the world’s leading applied research organisation.
