Invitation to WaKIDS Wednesdays

It has been such a joy to have students back in our building!  Even though they have masks on, it is easy to see the smiles on their faces as they enter the school. Students are quickly learning school and classroom procedures and settling into a routine.

Coming up on Oct. 28 and again on Nov. 4 we have WaKIDS Wednesdays. Students and parents will make individual appointments with the teacher in order to complete the required Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developmental Skills. There will be no classes (virtual or onsite) for students on these days to allow teachers to meet with families. Free meals for students will still be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at one of our six district meal sites

In order to lessen the disruption to families, these appointments will be virtual and your teacher will be sending you the link. For those with students in Cohorts A and B, click here for directions on how to sign up for a meeting time via Skyward. Please return the WaKIDS Parent Questionnaire to your child’s teacher (found in the back-to-school bag) by the beginning of next week, if you’ve not already done so.

For our 100% virtual learners, look for an email invitation from Mrs. Lund to sign up for times. Please return (by mail) the WaKIDS Parent Questionnaire (recently mailed to you) by the beginning of next week, if you’ve not already done so.

Cubby's Counseling Corner

Our counselor, Mr. Diaz, provides a monthly Counseling Corner with helpful information on how he is interacting with MKC students. This month, he is visiting classrooms and introducing the following school-wide expectations:
*  We are safe.
*  We follow directions.
*  We try our best.
*  We are kind kindergarteners!

Bring those blue cards

When entering the building, all students are required to have the Daily Symptom Check cards attesting they are free of Covid-19 symptoms. If a student forgets the card, he/she will not be allowed in the classroom until a parent or guardian is contacted to answer the questions. If you have misplaced your cards, please notify the office so we can replace them.
Virtual Materials Pick-Up

On October 23, virtual learners from Mrs. Lund’s class can pick up their new materials between 8 and 9 a.m. or 3:10 to 4 p.m. Pull up in the valet line along Grace Avenue (located along the front of the school), and call 922-5469 to notify the office you are here. A staff member will meet you at the front door with your student’s bag.
Tips for Cold Lunch

If you are sending a cold lunch with your child, be sure to pack items he/she can independently open. Items we’ve found that are difficult to open include Capri Suns, fruit snacks, fruit cups and Gogurts. Students who bring lunch from home can purchase milk at school for $.60. Money can be added to student accounts by following this link.
Mark your Calendar...

November 23-25: Fall Conference times (rescheduled from Oct. 28-30)
As with everything else in 2020, our October festivities will look a little different than in the past. Since Halloween falls on the weekend, we ask that you not send students to school in a costume. Students in both cohorts will take part in fun, fall activities within their classrooms.
  • Due to this year’s added safety measures, our Transportation Department needs to know in advance if you decide to send your child to/from school on a bus. It can take up to a week for new riders to be scheduled and assigned a seat, so please call our office in advance of any changes to your child’s bus schedule.
  • Please remember to send your child to school on their assigned days with the following items: backpack (with transportation tag attached), blue health screening card, green folder for student’s at-home work, an extra face mask, water bottle and a healthy snack.
  • Our staff takes photos of students in their school experience, and we enjoy sharing them with others via social media and on our website. If you would prefer for your child’s photo NOT to be shared on these public platforms, please complete this WVSD Opt-Out Form and provide it to the office as soon as possible.
