Because you're involved in a show at STG, you are being asked to write a bio about yourself for the program.

A bio is a short summary that introduces you to the audience. Your bio should highlight your past experiences, schooling, and information about your interests and life outside of the production. Keep your bio brief and to the point. Your bio is subject to editing once submitted, in order to fit.

NOTE: Everything you write should be "as you wish it to appear in the program." So, if you want your name to appear a certain way, make sure you list it that way below. Also, the "other" category is mainly for crew to list their position(s).

Basic rules of writing bios:
1. Keep it short (no more than 150 words for small cast shows and 75 to 100 for a larger cast shows, please).

2. Keep it third-person. Never say, “I did this” or “I did that” (see example below)

3. Refrain from using obscure references the audience will not “get.” The point is NOT to confuse but to enlighten.

4. This isn’t a Tony acceptance speech, so keep the thanks short. Yes, they do “really like you.”

5. Keep your voice active as opposed to saying, “she was encouraged by her family to pursue acting,” instead say, “her family encouraged her to pursue acting.”

6. Remain as professional as possible and avoid incorrect grammar if possible (this includes correct capitalization of words).

7. Show names should be italicized OR surrounded by quotation marks.  

Example bio:

Jared Wright (Director) is an avid photographer and admirer of all things “Fine Arts.” He has worked in theatre for over twenty-five years. In that time, he has been fortunate to have worked with some of the best. His favorite shows/roles include Tuesdays with Morrie (Director), West Side Story (Big Deal, Diesel, Snowboy), Jesus Christ Superstar (Matthew/Boaz), and Seussical (Mr. Mayor). In 2004, he graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre and a Minor in Music. He would like to thank the cast and crew, his family, and his friends for always being so very supportive. Also, thank YOU, the audience, for coming to support live theatre at STG.  It means a lot! Break a leg!
