About this movie

In the documentary film “Marcus”, Patrick Savey gives us a unique view into this legendary bass player’s world, capturing his New York roots in Jamaica, Queens and following his path as he meets masters of jazz like Larry Graham, Jaco Pastorius, David Sanborn, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau and Miles Davis.
The film is a fantastic visual and musical journey of the history of this exceptional musician, multi instrumentalist, composer, and producer. Through testimonies and live performances, this film reviews three decades of the evolution of Jazz in which Marcus plays a critical part. A history showing a remarkable humanity, a knowledge for and a rare appreciation of the history of music: African-American music roots, his childhood Gospel at church, the orchestral-funk of his last album and also his relation to African music.

This documentary exemplifies the depth of Marcus Miller's rich musical history and dedication to his craft. As a Bass player myself and huge fan of Marcus's work, it just solidifies why I recognize him as one of the best bassists in the business.
