How to Submit an Application on Apply Philly Charter

Lottery Process

Students are admitted to MBACS by lottery.  MBACS applies a preference to applicants with a sibling currently enrolled in the school. The MBA Sibling preference policy only applies to siblings that apply before the lottery deadline on January 22, 2024. We cannot apply it after the lottery because at this point the waitlist has been established.  Applications received by January 22, 2024 will be entered into our lottery.  The 2024-2025 lottery will be held at MBACS on February 7, 2024 at 9:00 am.  Families are not required to attend.  Students not admitted through the lottery will be placed on a randomly generated waiting list.  Any applications submitted after the lottery will automatically be placed on the waiting list in the order they are received.

Lottery Results

Lottery results will be sent via email or by first class mail (when email is not on application) on or before February 9, 2024 and include students’ status (i.e., accepted or wait listed). If a child is wait listed, their place on the waiting list will be included in the letter. A phone message will also be sent to all applicants alerting them that decisions are being emailed. Families can also check their status by logging in to their Apply Philly Charter account

Enrollment Process
Families admitted through the lottery will be notified via email and standard mail, and will have 14 days to accept their seat on APC.  Then families will have 14 days to submit paperwork from date of acceptance, or an extension will be granted if requested within 14 days of acceptance.  The parent/guardian will be required to submit proof of the child’s date of birth, proof of residency from the current year, immunization records, affirmation statement, and a home language survey to MBACS within 14 days of accepting their offer in APC.
Families called off of the waiting list and offered a seat post-lottery to the end of June will have 7 days to accept their offer in APC, and an additional 7 days to submit paperwork after the date of acceptance.  Families will be granted an extension if it is requested within the 7-day window.
Beginning July 1, families called off of the waiting list and offered a seat during the current school year will have 3 days to accept their offer in APC, and an additional 7 days to submit paperwork after the date of acceptance.  Families will be granted an extension if it is requested within the 7-day window.
In addition to the required documents, MBACS also requests that parents complete an enrollment packet.  The enrollment packet will be sent to all students once they have been accepted, and includes:

Introductory Letter to Parents/Guardians
Enrollment Checklist
Demographic Information Sheet
Affirmation Statement
Charter School Student Enrollment Notification Form
Emergency Information and Treatment Form
Home Language Survey
Request for Records
Evidence of Enrollment
Photo Release Form
Pennsylvania Information Management Systems (PIMS) Form
Physical Examination
Dental Examination
Proof of Residency (Any one of the following eight items constitutes acceptable forms of proof of residency: a deed, a lease, current utility bill, current credit card bill, property tax bill, vehicle registration, driver’s license, DOT identification card).
Proof of Age (Any one of the following seven items constitutes acceptable forms of proof of age: birth certificate; notarized copy of birth certificate; baptismal certificate; copy of the record of baptism – notarized or duly certified and showing the date of birth; notarized statement from the parents or another relative indicating the date of birth; a valid passport; a prior school record indicating the date of birth.)
Current Immunizations
Report Card or Transcripts (to verify grade placement)

If a parent is unable to secure all documents in the enrollment packet prior to their assigned deadline, the child’s place can be secured by contacting MBACS and indicating their intent to enroll. If a child’s enrollment packet is not received by the deadline and parent notification of intent has not been made, MBACS makes at least two attempts to contact the parent prior to moving a child to the waiting list. MBACS does not delay enrollment if a missing document is not required by law.
