No easy way to dress that up is there, it was nowhere good enough was it?

No, we weren't there tonight and it's not the best of games to do that in, really. They are all disappointed in there and realise we haven't given a good enough show.

What have you been saying to the players?

Have a look at yourselves, drag out of yourselves as much as you can. We have to train hard, work hard and it's a rebuilding job, we aren't going to shy away from that. We are a wounded animal at the minute and we have to come out on Saturday and show we call care.

You talk about it being a rebuilding job, what do you mean by that?

Do you need me to say? We have new players in, others who have to get up to fitness. They have been together and had a process in place for two or three years. This is a new start and something we have to rectify quickly. It's not going to be done quickly, necessarily, but we have to show patience and get through it.

The fans are angry, are you angry?

Yes, I am. The teams I played in were successful so I don't like being in teams that aren't. It's a natural part of it, but you have to take it, move on and learn from it. The players are angry, but it's probably too late for that now and we have to go again on Saturday.

The performances have been okay on the whole recently, what went wrong tonight?

There have been positives from the other games, of course there have. It was one of those games when we started all right for 10 minutes and then they scored and we lost that confidence again. We didn't take care of the football and it petered out. We needed to get lads back on it. There were a couple of young lads out there that tried, but as a group it wasn't there.

Was it confidence, was it effort?

I don't know, itt was a number of things. They had their tails up, got the first goal and we kept it to one at half-time. We stressed to try and keep it at one, stay in the game and try to get something at the other end. It didn't come off and there are a lot of disappointed players in there and I understand the fans' frustrations, of course I do. I have been at the club for a number of years and know how people feel so it's one we have to put right and the process starts on Wednesday.

From the outside you looked like you were shuffling your pack to try different formations

We changed it a couple of times, but it was just people moving five yards here or five yards there really. We said in there, if you don't perform as a group you are going to struggle.

What's the secret now Russ, from here?

Hard work and sticking together. Trying to find a way of playing in the way we have in two or three games before. Trying to get the club back and getting some points and moving up the table.

On a personal level, frustrating for you when the board are looking where they might look for the next manager?

i will do the best job I can, put the best team out that I can and give the best information that we can as a group and what happens on Wednesday will happen.

There are a few reasons why this club are in a bit of a predicament at the moment, but even taking that into consideration, were there things tonight that were unacceptable?

Yes, you don't want to lose 4-0 to your local rivals in a derby. You have to show more than we showed tonight, that's a minimum and it wasn't there.

When Forest Green won at Cheltenham last season, they looked like they were improving, now it looks like they've kicked on. Is it how far they are down the line with what they are building?

Yes, they are two or three years down the line. We've just had a change and we are trying to rectify things and deal with things. It's down to working on the training ground and putting things into place you think are going to work. There have been some positives in recent games, but unfortunately tonight we were beaten by the better team, which is a bitter pill to swallow.

You have been chucked into some difficult situations, but was having to speak to the players after that one of the hardest ones you had so far?

Yes, it was. It was a hard one. I told them to look inside themselves and demand more of themselves and more of the people next to you. If we do that, we have a chance.

Do you need to focus on the league now?

You don't want to go into any game and not perform or give your best. You are out there to do a job for the team and the town and the shirt, so it's disappointing. We have got to focus on the league and we have to come out like a wounded animal and use that fighting spirit we have shown against Northampton on Saturday.

It is already a battle to stay up?

Not really, there are some good players out there. You will get ups and downs and today was a down. You have to move on, get around each other and demand more.
