Jacques Streeter, Men's Basketball
Jacques Streeter scored in double figures in both games in leading UTEP to a 2-0 start in Conference USA, and recorded his 500th career assist in the Miners' 74-63 win over Marshall. Streeter tallied 10 points and six assists in a 67-58 triumph at Tulane on Jan. 9, then posted 14 points, seven dimes and a steal versus the Thundering Herd. He now has 1,060 points, 500 rebounds and 94 steals in a career that started at Cal State Fullerton. Streeter is averaging 12.0 ppg in C-USA action, shooting 50 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Anete Steinberga, Women's Basketball
Anete Steinberga put together back-to-back solid performances to help lead UTEP (14-1, 2-0 C-USA) to a pair of C-USA victories. She averaged 18.5 points - on 50.0 percent shooting (12-of-24)- and 5.0 rebounds in 23.0 minutes in the wins at Tulsa (71-64, Jan. 9) and against East Carolina (81-66, Jan. 13).
The Miners, winners of nine straight, improved to 14-1 overall on the year to equal the best start in program history. They are also off to a 2-0 start in conference play for the second straight year and fifth time overall.
Steinberga started the week off by navigating through foul trouble to tally 18 points and secure three boards in just 18 minutes of action against the Golden Hurricane. She did most of her damage in the second half, scoring 14 points while also grabbing the aforementioned three boards. Overall she drilled 6-of-9 from the floor while also nailing all six of her tries at the charity stripe.
The native of Latvia also had foul issues in the contest against the Pirates but she still delivered a solid stat line. Steinberga poured in 19 points while also pulling down seven boards in 28 minutes of action before fouling out for the first time this season. She hit on 6-of-15 shots, including her first three pointer of the year and second of her career, in addition to going 6-of-6 at the charity stripe.
