The New Jersey Devils have recalled 21-year-old winger Joey Anderson from Binghamton.

Anderson has amassed 15 goals (t-1st) and 34 points (2nd) through 44 games this season. That’s pretty solid production from a youngster, which explains why he represented the baby Devils at the All-Star game.

There isn’t nearly as much AHL data available as NHL data, of course, but Anderson’s advanced numbers are fairly strong as well.

He is averaging 1.87 primary points per 60 minutes (Michael McLeod leads the team at 2.17), good for 3rd on the roster.

Anderson’s goal differential is negative, however, the B-Devs’ share of the goals is 4.60% higher with him on the ice as opposed to without.

I still don’t think his NHL ceiling is overly high but I have no problem with the team giving him a look. He has played well in the AHL and deserves another shot to showcase himself.

The Devils are also going absolutely nowhere. They might as well use the remaining games to see what they have in some of the kids. Keeping things status quo and playing Kevin Rooney, John Hayden, and co. every night accomplishes nothing; we already know what they are.

Hopefully Anderson is more than just another healthy body to have around while Nico Hischier is banged up.
