Wal-Mart is NOT needed at Stonecrest

The coalition of neighborhoods in the Stonecrest area in Lithonia, GA has raised serious question as to the need for a Wal-Mart store in the Stonecrest area in Lithonia, GA for the following reasons.

  • We feel that the targeted location for new development is too close to the Wal-Mart store on Fairington Road in Lithonia, GA and there are at least four other existing Wal-Mart stores on the east side of Dekalb.
  • We feel that the impact will be to shift services from smaller shops in the area and cause store closings.
  • We feel the impact will cause the eventual closing of the Wal-Mart store on Fairington Road in Lithonia, GA just the same as the Wal-Mart store on Wesley Chapel in Decatur, GA was closed due to the development of the Wal-Mart store on Fairington Road in Lithonia, GA.
  • We feel that the need for a grocery store can be satisfied by expanding the existing Target store on Mall Parkway at Stonecrest in Lithonia, GA into a Super Target including a full grocery store.
