Did you know that October is National Pork Month? My family loves pork. We eat pork at least once a week, if not a couple of times per week. We don’t eat much red meat (beef) and there is only so many different ways you can make chicken. My kids actually love when I make pork chops or pork cutlets for dinner. When I make pork cutlets I usually make a few extra so they can have them for lunch as a sandwich the next day.
To help celebrate National Pork Month, Costco is offering consumers discounts on top pork cuts from roasts to chops, and from boneless loins to pork tenderloin. If you are currently a Costco member you can enjoy weekly savings ranging from $2.00 – $2.50. For example, this week, until October 7th, Boneless Chops and Roast are $2.50 off at Costco. That is a significant savings.
Boneless pork chops are my “go-to” dinner meal because they are so quick and easy to make. We prefer boneless chops too since you get more meat then you do with the bone left in.
Chops can also be cut up into chunks to make kabobs (great for parties!) or toss them in with some vegetables to make a stir fry.
Pork Makes the Party! Pork’s is so versatile and is able to pair with a variety of foods and flavors. Pork is a great addition to any holiday table. This holiday season why not celebrate pork.
FYI… Temperature News: The USDA reduced the temperature guideline for pork loins, chops and roasts from 160 to 145 degrees F, with a three minute rest. This will yield a juicy, flavorful product that may be pinker in color than most home cooks are used to. Ground pork, like all ground meat, should be cooked to 160 degrees.
I’m going to swing by Costco either Thursday or Friday to take advantage of the sale on boneless pork chops. I’m going to make pork chops with apples and onions for dinner either Friday or Saturday night. I’ll be happy to share the recipe with my readers. With apples abundant at the farmers market now I thought it would be nice to pair the pork with a seasonal fruit.
Here is another yummy recipe that I plan on trying too. It’s for Pan-seared Pork Chops with Maple Gravy and Apple Bacon Hash. Mmmm!!!
