when it’s cold outside, I got the month of may

the temptations sang that early may morning.

a purple durag draped over her head

a little me sitting atop her knee

my girl, my girl, my girl

my grandma would serenade me as she drove the tractor around the yard, fresh grass lingered through my nose.

green pears draped from the tree

little me would always snatch one as the tractor rode underneath

I guess you’d say, what can make me feel this way?

when our work was done, we danced to the rhythm of the setting sun

a close bond to be created and never undone

My girl, my girl, my girl

starting to fade from the radio

a memory archived in the books

a dance to dance even 14 years later.

this poem is dedicated to my gamma, my guardian and best friend. She's given up so much of her life to take care of me and this poem I wrote for her is my way of saying thank you; for all the memories I will now treasure forever.
