My family has resided in Westfield since 1832 and every winter I imagine how my ancestors lived on this land and how they survived. I remember my great-grandmother telling me that you can predict the type of winter to come based on the color of the wooly worms or on the inside of the persimmon seeds. Still to this day, I watch for the cues of the wooly worms and crack open a persimmon seed to make my predictions for the winter. Do you have a special way that you predict the forecast for the seasons? Share your traditions on our Facebook page. About the Cover We could not be more excited that the 1951 Studebaker fire truck is in its final stages of restoration. This advance water pumping fire truck was one of the first for the Westfield Fire Department. Longtime residents may recall the Westfield High School fire in 1969 where this fire truck remained on the scene for three days. The truck served the Westfield community and beyond until it sold in 1980. A small group of current and retired fire fighters wanted to retain this piece of Westfield history so they took it upon themselves to purchase the truck in 2012. The restoration process began a short time later in order to return the fire truck to its original glory. Josh Southerland, a current WFD fire fighter stated, "We have been working on the Studebaker for 5 years. We have had past and present members of WFD work hard on restoring this fire truck that tells a story about Westfield history." The process has been long, but those involved know that it is important to them and the community. Westfield Washington Township has helped contribute to the restoration of this project and looks forward to sharing this piece of history with the community.

Sincerely,

David Gill | Gary Southerland | Danyele Easterhaus
